My schools didn't stop until I was already in 8th grade, when they switched to softballs.

In elementary we had these and we called it 'dodge or die'. Getting hit in the face or dick hurt but it was tolerable for everyone, it was that we had one team(usually 3) throwing the ball and the rest of us stood in front of a brick wall. We'd rotate but we could never play dodgeball normally because we only ever had 1-3 balls. I saw blood plenty of times not just from the few assholes who aimed for your head, but from kids who flinched so hard they'd hit their own head into the bricks. I guess we were all masochists because no one complained and we kept coming back.

Okay, I've reread this chapter and I'll say some things.
Hitball was good until Jeff threw the first ball. Sports happen on the background while we focus in different characters and the development of plot points. We see Ed and his issues with Isabel, Suzy blackmails Max, Isabel brings up the talk about ghosts, Johnny recognizes Ed as one of Max' floating friends (remember when that was a subplot?) and stuff like that. Then, Jeff throws the ball and everything is put on halt and the comic becomes a bloated mess.
First of all, the characters are too quick to react. They go full strategy mode as soon as Jeff throws the ball, which feels weird and sudden. It's even weirder how Violet reacts to quickly, and how long it takes her to get the teacher back.
Then, instead of having progression of previous points like it happens in early hitball, everything revolves around solving the match which is based on a pretty difficult to justify premise.
Chapter 4 was long and tedious, but things happened and there were good jokes. It ended on a pretty high note, and it made me feel excited about what was to come. Hitball out of nowhere feels incredibly intrusive, and this year has been a dark one. But it's over, finally! Now I feel like Chapter 5 has finally begun, and I'm excited as hell.
Even though Johnny's plot about him investigating the Activity Club will feel weird now that all this crazy shit has happened in front of him. Let's see how Zack keeps the status quo of spiritual things being secret.
