>that animation style
why did they do that when neely already had a look going
>>
>>77839322
Season 2 was pretty meh but had a good finish (iirc). Season 3 started out strong but got progressively weaker. They should've stuck with the 11 minute episodes.
>>
>>77839197
fuck, this so hard
never has a show looked so stupid and turned out so.. well, stupid, but also CLEVER and incredibly written
at least this team got another chance with Unsupervised, also good. also canceled quickly.
>>
>>77839356
what are you talking about? they practically traced neely's drawings

The 'sleek' flash the show used came off to me as soulless and derivative.

The lo-fi, squiggly, hand-drawn animation that show was born from had a charm to it. It reflected the 'unrealness' of the character's deranged perspectives. Like you were watching a hazy memory unfold or an embellished vignette. The line between real and imaginary was fuzzy, like the animation itself.

In the original videos most of the 'action' happened inside the character's heads. The world around them was normal (as normal as our crazy fucked up world is), but the character's warped perspectives imbued it with a sense of wonder and mystery. You had Babycakes and overgrown manchild who wrestled with making sense of reality as seen through his childlike naivety, and the Prof. Brothers who lived in an academic bubble where they were insulated from 'normalizing' pressures of regular society, so their bizarre theories and predilections were left to grow unchecked.

In the show, the characters are mostly regular ass people with regular wants and needs and a few distinguishing neurosis and it's the world around them that's fucked to hell with super science, deities, and all other kinds of crazy off the wall bullshit that was used as a plot device.

The whole show felt lazy. It was rank with the pungency of board room decisions. In trying to make Neely's universe into a commercialized product that would hit with the 18-35 demographic they succeeded in sucking out all the heart and the passion and leaving it a dried up husk.

>cancelling Tron Uprising and Motorcity

Disney XD needs to be purged from the earth for this atrocity.
>>
>>77839828
Seriously, Tron:Uprising was the only Tron thing I could count as good without any qualifiers
>>
>>77839767
The world being fucked and weird and everyone being normal made me unhappy. Your analysis was spot on, I'd rather the characters be deranged in a normal world.
>>
>>77839163

Compared to the internet shorts, the show is pretty terrible. I'll take 3 second long stillframes that articulate the chracters over fluid meh tier animation.

Also what the fuck, other than the voices, the characters all seem really off from their original web versions.
>>
>>77840407

The professor brothers mostly, they're assholes in this. Baby cakes is mostly the same but less of an autistic sage and more of a moron and I think pony was a DnD nerd in the shorts.

I really loved frank in the shorts while in this they made in him a loser, such a shame.

I still liked the show, though it died when it needed too.
>>
>>77839229
God I love it when kids in shows have actual kid voices and man I fukkkkin hate aubrey plaza
>>
>>77839477
It's one of those shows that you think is going to be total ass and turns out to be amazing. Maybe it's just marketing, I don't know, but I do know I need more Stroker and Hoop in my life.
>>
>>77839197
Liked this show a lot for some reason

Wish adult swim had more original cartoons, mike tysons mysteries feels like the disjointed lunacy of the good ole days
>>
>>77839477

I think the show was mostly carried by flawed yet likeable characters. It also had a really unique charm that made me really like it.
>>
>>77839804

Man that was a rough year or two for animation. Really good shit that got absolutely fucked over. Seemed like every network was trying to outdo the others by how retarded they could make their scheduling.
>>
I never understood why people feel like just because a show is good it needs 6 seasons and a movie.
China, IL ended before the quality dipped, let's just be happy with that.

My only regret is there not being enough Pony R34.
No, not THAT pony R34.

All of these really. Motorcity even loved us back.
>>
>>77839477

I'm really sad that Unsupervised didn't get a second season. It wasn't an amazing season but you could see they were really finding their legs there towards the end. I think the first few episodes just turned too many people off it.

The art style was weird.

>tfw most people disregard it as stoner garbage for being on adult swim

It's really the only cartoon-esque show I can think of that's over my head some of the time and requires introspection to really understand. Or maybe I'm just retarded. Either way I fucking love it.

but thats j

This was a show where all the problems with the school's performance issues could have easily have been solved in the first 15 minutes by firing all the shitty teachers and hiring more ethical, competent people.

Seriously, spending money to make ROBOT duplicates of people who have proven time and again to be failures? Would have been far less expensive to ditch the failures and hire new people

>My only regret is there not being enough Pony R34.

This enrages me to no end. Like holy fuck never have i wanted R34 of a character so much

It's because the Motorcity threads were unusually excellent. It made watching the show even better knowing there was a thread I could drop by that wasn't a shit-filled general.
>>
>>77839767
Thanks for this.

You said what I feel. I was a fan from George Washington days, and you're 100% right. The art style was half the fun.
>>
>>77839163

I miss China IL, but I feel pretty strongly about their second and third seasons being substantially weaker. I think at the cost of more elaborate plots, the fast placed surreal nature of the 11 minute episodes was a lot more effective.
>>
>>77840646
It would be funny if they rebooted Xavier pretending the series finally never happened
