New shit coming out this week: http://www.comiclist.com/index.php/newreleases/this-week
Wondering where to buy stuff? try http://www.instocktrades.com/ (us) or Amazon
Thread question: What book are you most looking forward to?
Would it be possible to get more pictures of the Goon Library edition? Like, does it have a dust jacket, or is it just a hardcover like Fear Agent or Hellboy?
Ok goon dump rolling out now.
It's the same size as the fear agent one I believe. The dust jacket comes with UV printing on the goon. Mine came wrinkled for some reason.
Read up on the inside of the dust jacket.
>What book are you most looking forward to?
Honestly, I don't think so. All it adds are a few cover sketches and some of Parlov's page inks for issue 13. The hardcover looks pretty nice under the dust jacket though, so there's that.
so I just recently finished cosmic marvel from Annihilators to Thanos Imperative.
Looking to pickup GotG specifically (and Thanos Imperative).
Should I get the Part 1/2 Collections in paperbacks or hold off until the Omnibus comes out.
I'm just concerned that Omnibus size and hardcover makes it too troublesome to read.
what are some good omnibuses to get?
my budget is $50
some that have caught my eye is
Neal Adam's Batman
Walt Simonson's Orion
Warren Ellis' Planetary
Grant Morrison's Animal Man
but I'm also open to any suggestions
I've never read Sandman (I know, fuck me, right?) and I've been meaning to pick it up, but I don't know what format to go with. How are the omnibi? Is there any gutter loss?
Just go with the absolute edition they are way better and more easy to read and around the same price for all of them as the omnibus here's is a pic of mines
Here's mines there's a couple of books missing because I just move but a good amount are in one of my book shelves
Bought these today. Complete Case Files 01 is in the mail.
what book am i most looking forward to
preacher absolute vol 1 without a doubt
morrisons animal man or fear agent
really strarting to get triggered with this. i love that people want to collect it and i'm not attacking you personally but the OMNIBUSES ARE A WASTE OF MONEY. Save up and get the absolutes or you'll regret it.
We have had about 5 people buy sandman in the past 2 months. 2 went with the 10 book trade, 2 went with omnibus and 1 went with the absolute
1 person was happy and it's because he's a commuter reader so he needed the flexibility a tpb provides...
not sure i've seen your stuff posted in these threads before... nice shelves... consider getting the hellboy library editions before they are gone forever.
also is DMZ good? i end up looking at it every couple months and for some reason it's always in the back of my head...
also please post amazon wishlist codes. there are a couple posters i'd like to get something for..
oh did you post your name with it as well? i just figured some people may have not seen that thread or not posted with their names in here was all
went through thread #3, 31 ctrl+f on your name, no wishlist. can you just post it here in spoiler tag or something so i can get you something :P
Nice anon you are really in for a treat with the 3rd one I haven't read the first one yet but 3-9 were fantastic really love me some dredd
Hey, I just got Grayson and Multiversity too! Multiversity has an insane annotated map with all the relations between the worlds drawn out.
I just bought Daredevil volume 2 by Waid.
good work. i got this feel that they are gonna be oop in the next 6 months or so...
i just snagged this off amazon
My IST order should be here tomorrow.. did they get everyone else's stuff out who ordered from them during black friday sale? I'm shocked stuff isn't delayed getting out. Picked and shipped in 1 day, that's gotta be a record for me..
And muh floppys
On the way I have:
Cerebus Remastered Vol 1 and 2
Ms. Marvel HC
Marvel Darth Vader Trade
Doctor Doom and Doctor Stranger triumph and torment Trade.
look at this... look at list price, isbn does not match the following but...
i think ist has this 70% off right now? IST doesn't say it's the OVERsized limited edition, but i don't think there is a limited edition that ISN'T oversized
this may be a good find...
from wikipedia "r Top Shelf Productions in 2012, in a softcover edition as well as a deluxe, oversized, limited edition hardcover."
Confirmed for awesome deal I guess... I'm gonna grab one and hopefully the quality is nice.. I'm assuming it's nice because a 164 page oversized hardcover is a really high MSRP.
If anyone has experience with this book let me know! Thanks
>bought arzach recently
That's one of the more sought after ones, unless you picked up a modern Spanish/French edition.
The Long Tomorrow and Airtight Garage are both really great scifi stories he did, also Blueberry was his long running Western series he did under his real name Jean Giraud
>That's one of the more sought after ones, unless you picked up a modern Spanish/French edition.
LCS had it for 40$ CAD tax free
it was there for a few weeks to be honest i feel silly not having bought it sooner
>>That's one of the more sought after ones, unless you picked up a modern Spanish/French edition.
oh sorry forgot to mention
it's in english, very good condition but you can tell it's decades old
Thanks m8. Here are some of my favorites.
man im bad at saying all i want to say in a post im exhausted. how many pages is it? i think arzach is around.. 40 pages? how does airtight garage compare? i'm reallly interested in purchasing the gardens of aedena next personally how about you anon
I see you have a taste for the ultra violent, anon.
I put in my order on Thursday and it's still being processed like they can't find any fucking copies of Nailbiter Vol 3. I just want my books damn it.
>What book are you most looking forward to?
Probably The Doom That Came to Gotham
and here's my Hellboy. All I need to be up to date is Abe 5 and 6, but that's probably going to have to wait.
Ordered the Usagi Yojimbo softcover slipcase off Amazon last night with the 30% off code! And when IST updates I'm grabbing the fifth Chew Omnivore edition, among some other things.
fuck, I know right? DH had them beautiful for so long, and now this.
oh, and I guess here's the rest of my stuff. but I don't have a shelf right now. disregard the triscuit boxes full of nerf darts
how much is this normally discounted. i have 0 interest in powerangers but this is normally 650? and it's priced at like $200 right now? I'm wondering if I should buy to make $50 or $100 on ebay?
Oh, it's great to see that Enemy ace book we talked about. $10, you'd have been literally a lunatic not to pick it up. And although I wouldn't spend money on it myself, that Starlord statue is kind of cool.
Early Dredd, great purchase Anon.
Holy shit! Floppies! Ilike to get four or five out and lay 'em on the top when photographing (even tho' they're alphabetized with little creator tags--pretentious hipster here, don't collect by character, 99% of my collection are all created by one person), give a little flavor, some particular nice covers or just hella rare shit you're proud of.
Could never get into Blueberry. Still, any Giraud/Moebius is worth just looking at, right?
So, what the fuck has happened to my Fables dust jacket?
New releases are up on IST. The 50% off deals are
>Absolute Batman: The Court of Owls
>All-New X-Men HC Vol. 3
>Chew Omnivore Edition Vol. 5
>Deadpool by Posehn & Duggan HC Vol. 4
>DMZ Deluxe Edition HC Book 5
>Lex Luthor: A Celebration of 75 Years
>Private Eye Deluxe HC
>Rat Queens Deluxe HC Vol. 1
>Wolverine Epic Collection: The Dying Game
Anyone know? Sorry to spam, just anxious and excited that maybe I found a super good deal. I have never seen this book on anyones shelf though so it doesn't surprise me no answer yet (Even though it's pretty early for a reply)
These fucking threads have made me buy so many damn books in the past few months. It also make me sad there are so many of my favorites not collected though.
Buying from IST is worth it just to see the immaculate packing job they do. My valiant omnibuses (thanks again anon for the heads up) are looking great.
after looking at some ebay auctions i think i can make about 200ish reselling. maybe 150 with shipping/ebay fees.
anyways i ended up buying one to resell. love free money
nice. i see a guy has sold 7 for undisclosed amount. he has acutions at 525
i dropped him a line, linked him to the deal and said "hey man since im hooking you up with an opportunity to make more money, tell me what you've sold yours for so i have an idea of how much i can sell the single one i purchased for"
hopefully that good will goes a long way and he doesn't just ignore me heh
either way i think ill make some bank off it.. i think they normally sell for $320 on that shout site though? i think they dropped the price a little back
the move may be to wait until they are sold out and sell again next year around christmas.. we'll see...
Nothing new yet. I'm waiting on my copy of Empowered Deluxe 1 to come in the mail tomorrow. I also need to pick up my copies of Chew Smorgasbord Edition volume 2 and Rat Queens Deluxe volume 1 pretty soon. I'm trying to replace my Omnivore editions with the bigger and nicer Smorgasbord edition and all of my Empowered with the deluxe editions. And why not throw in the Amazon wishlist thing. I don't expect anything but it never hurts to try.

Shelf 1 of 2
And here is my second shelf. When I get the deluxe editions of Chew and Empowered I am going to sell my regular versions.
Got my Marvel Artist Select Series oversized limited edition signed hardcover today. Sal Buscema's Hulk and holy fuck is it nice. It has an awesome rough clothed slipcase. The paper quality is interesting and I'm not sure if I have a book with paper like this in my collection? not sure how to describe it..
In the back there were 4 clear inserts with light sketching, color palletes and inks, 4 of them and if you layer them on top it makes the whole image. If anyone know what these are called, these sheets, please let me know. I know one is inks for sure. the other colored pages... not sure what those are technically called. I got book 888 signed out of 999, so that's kinda shitty but check dem trips smhfam
Will these become unaffordable like the Hellboy or Sandman libraries or will the price be stable for a while?
I don't have a lot of experience with omnibuses and currently a little short on money due to christmas coming up...
I tried to get into Blueberry based on that page (I was aware of it before since I'm a huge Moebius fan - who isn't reall?) but I was really disappointed after reading the first few chapters, it doesn't look like Moebiu art at all, and not like that spread either. It just seems so incredibly boring and blad compared to his other works...
Does it get better?
pic related, my copy of airtight garage...
I'd imagine pretty stable for a while, first one came out just last month after all. Plus DH is really good at keeping their books in print. Also the hellboy LE are still affordable
>backs of the comics perfectly allign over the entire shelf
This pleases my autism. Somehow everything I buy is always off by just a few centimeters and the ones that do match up never fill a shelf. I guess this might be a yuropoor problem...
I've been doing this for a while now with used collections off ebay kleinanzeigen (essentially german craigslist) - I keep what I want and try to resell the rest for the original price or just a little less.
I managed to flip a few collections but I recently got stuck with a 400$ investment of more indie stuff that I personally loved but nobody seems to want to buy.
It's a pretty autistic way of making money, it kinda does work but it's not really worth all the time invested, you'd earn more by just taking a shitty part time job for the hours you spent. It's more fun though...
Don't know if you're US but here yah go.
nice shelves actually, brah, but is there room for my... MEAT?
Too much cape for my taste but some good choises I guess.
How's the Dragonball full color? Usually re-coloring for manga is absolute shit but DB came out when WSJ still did full color chapters, not one page every two months so I assume it also has originally colored chapters? Plus I'd love to have DB bigger than tankobon size.
I feel like doing 1:1 prints of the artist's pages for popular works would be something incredibly obvious but even in Japan I don't think there exists anything aside from slightly oversized tankobons...
I like Saga a lot even though it has some cringy moments. I feel like there are more and more comments saying it's SJW crap and while it certainly has a heavy female perspective which is unusual for mainstream comics I think people are overreacting and mixing up character thoughts with those of the author which is always a terrible idea...
Full Color Dragon Ball is rad as fuck. I love the size of the book. It's a really good color job. Viz is just retarded as fuck and the Freeza arc for the full color doesn't come out until May 2016.
No that's impossible if you don't live in a literal basement or in some shithole country with no living costs.
It's just a way of making a bit of money on the side or financing your comic purchases (at least for me) but as I explained it would be smarter to just get a regular part time job.
Remeber when Homer bought tons of bacon just to sell the lard for a few cents? Yeah.
I assume there are a few people here who could go professional with an online shop or something but in my experience, once you get into taxes you're fucked.
Why would you consider any of those cape?
Also cape is really disappointing if you come from non-cape and indie comics, even the works that are considered the greatest capestuff of all time are just plain average in comparison.
Still, I really enjoyed Allstar Superman and most of the Moore and Miller stuff so that might be the place to start.
Also there's Hellboy of course which I kinda consider to be an exception from cape for it's unique artstyle, paneling and exceptional coloring.
Tell me of your sneaky ways. 600 bucks is about 130% of minimal wage where I live. People work their asses off to have that kind of money at the end of the month, I can't really imagine you making that money easily without heavily evading taxes or doing plain illegal shit...
It's an amazing relaunch of rob liefield's shitty 90's comic
Trying to pass off somebody else's shelf as yours is kinda shitty bro.
Look man, that is actually my shelf. I like your stuff. I'm a big fan of invincible and spider-man but attacking other people's taste is pretty shitty of you.
Ah, missed the "non" in your post.
Well as with any genre it's never wrong to just start with some classics and see where that takes you - I think Moebius and Jodorowsky have allready been mentioned ITT, then there's the classic franco-belgian stuff like Herge and US disney stuff (which I personally hate, especially duck comics).
There are a few excellent German artists (it's a small scene but you can find a lot of unique stuff), from the top of my head jens harder is just amazing, pic related.
Then of course there's manga which is a whole different thing all together, if you wanna try I'd recommend something with a stron western style like Solanin.
Also there's a surprising amount of interesting chinese comics (mostly less plot-oriented and experimental art styles), try remember by benjamin.
If you want to stick with US releases just look through some of the shelves ITT.
When all the trades are out says Brandon Graham. Which is probably him being an asshole because you have to wait for all the trades then wait for each hardcore volume to come out.
>implying anyone of us will live to make it to the 2030's
> the last arc is finished
>praise the robotic head of stokoe, I can die now
>mfw they announce a new spin off
How is The Mighty Thor, I've been looking to read more Marvel.
Speaking of, I have the feeling getting into Ultimate X-men will be easier than classic, so how are the Ultimate Collections?
The Thor on that guy's shelf is Simonson's run, the best guy to ever write/draw Thor. Nothing revolutionary or spectacular (I personally don't even consider it among his best work), but there's solid writing and excellent art as expected from Walt.
Though I wouldn't recommend those trades. They're all recolored, and all for the worse.
I dunno, the other sheets might be rubylith, a part of the pre-digital colouring process. It'd help if you could take a photo of each sheet...rubylith was used for colour seperations...great article about early comics colouring here (and funny!) Dave Sim interviewing Neal Adams....if you're interested, give it a read, man.
I...didn't say that. I personally prefer trippier/headier stuff than Thor's more typical superhero fare, but there's no denying it succeeds at what it does. And it's only not among Simonson's best because Simonson is a legend and most everything he does is great.
I got a copy of Taboo #3 (w/the Moebius Dogmen cover w/red background) which has the first English printing of Eye of the Cat in it, and a weird Spain comic synopsis of Jodorowsky's film El Topo?! Anyway I scored it cheaply as part of a job lot of alt stuff that NO=ONE else bid on, I was buzzing with that...
Jodorowsky makes great surealist films. You should check out the holy mountain and the dance of reality. Some consider his stuff to be pretentious but I really like the visuals.
He tried to make a high budget movie adaptation of herbert's dune just before star wars came out but studio bosses fucked him over.
There's a documentary about it, called Jodorwosky's dune. It also touches on how idears and concepts salvaged from the failed project lead to the creation of both The Incal and the Metabarons, while some of the other artists involved became crucial to the making of Alien.
It's pretty incredible, really.
I agree, it's solid but not mind-blowing. There's some really neat stuff though, like Malekith's debut (and great old-school character design), Beta Ray Bill, Frog Thor. I should reread it some time, haven't looked at it since the last volume came in.
it was impossible to photograph two of them. you can only see the transparent colors for two of them at specific angles
anyways, 2 of them are just a single color, one has a third color plus some lines, then the other page is inks. wish i could have shown you but i gave up after 15 minutes
also i made this little display until i get bored of it to celebrate my new purchase
ill let you know after i finish. the art is kinda interesting
the dialogue and art combined kind of make me feel like i did when i was watching that "scanner darkly" movie? if that makes sense...
I actually thought his FF was better on the whole. More imaginative, flat out greater artistic skill, and he draws all but 6 issues (with Art Adams drawing another 3). There's a single Epic Collection with the whole thing; definitely worth checking out.
> have little Santa hats and some Christmas figures to put up with my figures
> too depressed to get out of bed and decorate
> still haven't moved my comic boxes back since I took them out to sort shit.
Here is my collection from the past couple years of working at a comic shop.
Just finished reading Morrison's Animal Man the other day. It deserves all of the hype. I can understand why some people aren't the biggest fan of his work, but after I understood his writing style he is one of my favorites.
An anon from a shelf thread a couple months ago recommended that I read Wizzywig. I really enjoyed it. It was a great insight on the rise of hacking culture as well as an enjoyable story.
Here are my unread books. Part of the issue of working around comics all day is that you tend to blow a decent amount of money impulsively buying things you may never read. That being said, is there anything I should read super soon?
More unread books.
The book itself is made fairly well, the same quality of all of the Marvel Now omnis it seems. The story itself is amazing, I need to go back and re-read it and actually finish it but it is one of my favorite Spider-Man Stories.
One more Francavilla print, plus a Django poster from my time working at a movie theater.
Not a big Doctor Who fan anymore, but don't have anything else to fill the space
What do you like about those #1s anon?
I feel like if I were going to hang up #1s I'd buy ones I really like that are still cheap and have 10/10 Covers like pic related. Even better get it blown up into a poster. I feel like modern would not sit right with me on the wall.
I honestly don't think of the value of them too much. I like the way they look in my room, and like all of the covers. I have about 12 short boxes full of single issues, with a handful of rare #1s but some of the covers are a bit too bland for me. I do agree that having modern comics hung up with golden age comics wouldn't look great.
Buying all the Zatanna merch in the world won't give her a solo run
Is this all that's going to be released of Nocenti's run? Should I even care about the other issues or are these issues all that's worth reading?
So so good, honestly. I bought it on kind of a whim last winter when I was having a phase of obsession with Stargirl, and I came away loving the entire JSA. It's a nice book too - easily the thickest I own. That said, it can sometimes be mildly cumbersome to read comfortably, but as long as you're prepared for that the content itself is fantastic.
The last 3 Batman & Robin volumes by Morrison are very slightly shorter in height than all my other books. It hurts me physically when I study them too long. And filling the shelf isn't an issue, I have a box of Marvel trades somewhere that I simply don't have anywhere to put them
I like the original Ultimate X-Men, and you're right; it is easier to get into. And, if you power through the dark days there is some stunning artwork through the years. That said, don't go into it expecting classic X-Men, go in expecting something new and you'll probably enjoy it more. In terms of the actual books, yeah the Ultimate Collections are nice. I'd probably prefer an Omnibus just for convenience, but these aren't bad editions at all.
Alright shelfags, I got 100 buckaroos burning a hole in my ass. What should I buy? One big omnibus or a bunch of smaller books? Some books I'm looking at are the 52 Omnibus and those 3 trades collecting Brubaker's Daredevil. Any suggestions?
if you havent read 52 before its ...fucking awesome, but the omni is quite large, so it comes down to personal preference, DC is reprinting the trades though but it'll take a while
This isn't my first rodeo. We got it on discount at work, and I like the team so I picked it up. People were so pissed when I posted a pic of my shelf in this thread. I've learned from my mistake.
I have been in the mood to read some Superman. I will try to get to it soon!
Has anyone ever bought something off D+Q's site? I saw they had a cyber monday deal going on so I bought some Moomin books to give my girlfriend for Christmas. Though I'm kinda worried they might not be here on time now.
They did, but on Fantagraphics' site the estimated time was bullshit and I ended up waiting about three or four months for anything to arrive. D+Q was from the same kinda underground comics community Fantagraphics was and I'm worried they might be as unorganized as Fanta when it comes to shipping.
I got the Walking Dead season 5 bluray statue set if that counts for anything. It's smaller than I expected. I can fit it in the previous sets' boxes. I think I should have waited before pre-ordering.
Yeah you might have been lucky and gotten it right if you'd ordered at midnight, but anytime I've bought something from one of their sales or pre-ordered something I'd get put on wait lists over and over again because they didn't have enough stock at their warehouse. The worst part is they don't even send an email telling you when your order actually ships out so you never know when they'll get it out.
Of course that was before they overhauled their website earlier this year. Who knows, maybe they have better practices in place now.
I've not really taken an interest in any of these video game/miniature things before, but I love that Mega Man one. I also so a cool-looking Mewtwo at Wal-Mart last week.
Sorry to sound like a cunt, thanks for sharing the information but I've been into Jodorowsky's films for years Anon. But yeah, the Dune documentary was great can you imagine of Jodo published a facsimile "Dune Bible"?! Shit would be amazing. Any Anon's remember when Chris Foss did a Dredd story? It might be in the later Case Files, I dunno, it was bloody terrible, visuals-wise, though. Like he'd been painting spaceships so long he'd forgotten how to draw human anatomy. Anyway, yeah, Holy Mountain is one of my favourite films (anyone with the imagination to tell the story of the Spanish massacre of the Incas(?) with LIZARDS, real, fucking lizards dressed up as Cortez, is okay in my fucking book!), I love the esoteric symbolism, everything...it was actually the defunct hip-hop band Company Flow who got me into his FILMS, they used a sample from Holy Mountain on their track "Help Wanted" which I always thought was just the intro to Population Control" ("we manufacture war toys....to condition children from birth") from their 1997 album "Funcrusher Plus (dunno if you're into rap) and in them pre-internet days it took me a few months to track it down but I got a dubbed VHS of it in the end. But yeah, Jodo rules. I think Ted McKeever got a lot from Fando Y Lis for his comic Industrial Gothic, if you've ever read that? How come no-one on /co/ talks about Ted McKeever?!
Dunno if you dig rap but there's no rapping on the track, just a fucked up drumbeat and unsettling sample over the speech:
I always thought of this as the intro to the "Population Control" song since it fits so well....
Anyway cheers Anon, I might've had no idea about Jodo.......
Didja check out the article I linked you to?
Guess you could look up "rubylith colour process" or something like that.....thanks for the display.
Don't think I've EVER seen anyone with Ellen Forney's Marbles in a shelf thread! I mentioned Wizzywig ages ago....
Not that anon, but I'm loving it, well worth the money I paid for it.
I'll be honest, I'm the same, really loving the TV show and wanting to read more Flash. /co/ seems to be in favor of what Johns did with Flash, and so far I'm loving the comic, pic related is where I have read to. Keep in mind this Flash is Wally (Kid Flash) not Berry, but it doesn't matter it's fucking great man.
Ok for that one anon last thread asking about the metabarons pics it just came in, but my back camera literally just broke on my way home so I took pics on my front facing camera. I apologize in advance for the shit quality
The cover is several different materials with gloss on the front and matte on the back and spine
Sewn binding is a plus
It about the same height and width as the asterios polyp hc, so slightly bigger than an average hc trade
And a cool page I found no extras just the afterwards
SORRY!! I didn't get a chance to look at it yet, I have it bookmarked. I was super busy last night and it looked to be a 20 minute read. I'll check it out tonight or tomorrow. I do appreciate you posting it, don't think it went unnoticed!
Today my IST order came in from Black Friday. Dat captain carror showcase is fucking huge.
"Tim Sievert by Tim Sievert Hugh is a fisherman with a special relationship to the sea; a relationship based on respect and reverence. But when Hugh feels that the sea has betrayed him, his whole existence is thrown out of whack. Hell-bent on settling the score, Hugh takes his revenge to the extreme, jeopardizing not only himself, but his family in the process, becoming a story about change, and learning the price for trifling with the natural progression of things."
It was $3.00 marked 70% down during IST's black friday sale and seemed interesting so I picked it up. I'll probably read it tonight, I just flipped through it, doesn't look like it can take more than 30 minutes to read.
I have achieved a level beyond buyfag.
You can call it Buyfag 2.
what do you mean taxes. in the us you have to make 20,000 dollar a year on ebay before you have to declare it on your taxes.
and how good are you with stencils and spray paint? one of my biggest sellers which i can't keep up with demand is doing art on canvas. as i always say paint a dragon on shit and people pay you for the privilege to eat it up.
>as i always say paint a dragon on shit and people pay you for the privilege to eat it up.
>paint a dragon on shit and people pay you for the privilege to eat it up
This is something you say?
yes i generally say condescending things about people. i also have a tendency to say "pay a man enough and he'll walk barefoot into hell singing your praises. say the right things and they will do it for free."
let me clarify, you have to have 200 sales or 20,000 dollars in sales in a year ebay and paypal generate a 1099 tax form. if you are issued that form then you have to declare them on your taxes. before that amount it's generally at your discretion if your effectively running a business or if your just having a garage sale. after all who declares a garage sale revenue on their taxes
That makes sense, though, anon! no dis intended, just havin' a laugh wit'choo!
I so want that Private Eye comic, Marcos Martin is one of the best mainstream artists in the biz
I am excited to read Marbles. I've dealt with and been around a lot of mental disorders.
It may have been you that I was talking to. It was probably four months ago or so. Think we also talking about Craig Thompson's Goodbye Chunky rice, which I also read and enjoyed
Y'know, I think it was--I said that "goodbye..." s basically an oblique telling of the same (love) story from Blankets? But I think it was a lot longer ago, at least 6 months, haven't posted on here for ages. Really glad you enjoyed Wizzywig, great comic--y'know Ed Piskor is doing the extremely well-received Hip-Hop Family Tree books for Fanta, yeah?
Soz to double post...there was a fucking RECORD, too?!?! Wow. Wicked film. Brit"fag" here, Frank Sidebottom (who the film is based on) was a national treasure, you ever seen any youtube vids of him or anything? Sorry to double-post, /co/mrades.
Yeah it was you for sure, thanks for the recommendation! And yeah, I have been wanting to check out HHFT.
The record is great! You can find the soundtrack online also. I have seen a few videos of him, but not many. I will have to watch some more!
DC is doing a new Icons line (i think thats what its called) the first wave just came out, i wouldnt be surprised if they do starfire at some point after they get all the obvious ones out of the way
Oh and this one came out not too long ago it looks like
Got some new stuff today after trading in some books I didn't need at a place called Title Wave Books here in Anchorage. They offered $16 in cash or $48 in trade credit, so I hose the latter. I used some of it to pick up the IDW Ghostbusters Omnibus trade and a hardcover titled "It Came!", which appears to be an homage/spoof of 50s B-movies from Titan Books.
Also, my Morbius POP! came in today and I absolutely love it. I'm very glad to finally have some Marvel Horror merch other than my Morbius poster.
Here are my two recent purchases. I recently decided to replace my Chew: Omnivore editions with the larger Smorgasbord edition books. I'm waiting on my pay check to get volume 1. And I also decided to replace my Empowered volumes with the deluxe because the regular volumes are so flimsy.
bumping most recent purchase
nice Empowered Deluxe, I have both of them, they look real nice on the shelf.
That looks pretty great; I picked up the original Metabarons collection back in 2012, and this seems like the build quality is better in your version. Going off prices on Amazon, I'm wondering if it's worth it to sell my old version and upgrade.
Preacher is out in paperback volumes, about 12 issues in each. Otherwise the phone book sized Judge Dredd Case files volumes are good value. BPRD Plague Of Frogs got a recent paperback print too.
I recently picked up the first two volumes of Largo Winch from Cinebook which I am enjoying a lot.
No problem mate, really glad you enjoyed it! It was without a doubt Piskor's first "mature work"--gotta love the cover, too.
I read somewhere that the film character version was supposed to be a melange of semi-"outsider" musicians, like Captain Beefheart and that solo guy who plays under one name who's name I have conveniently forgotten (he's still performing but started in the late 60's, I think, always been on UG/indy labels) and the "real" Frank Sidebottom. But yeah, he used to be on "the telly" loads when I was growing up and was gigging 'til he died. Try and find his punk medley, it's funny as shit.
I was aware, but I meant more that the older edition I have is going for a couple hundred, even used.
Unrelated, but I just got the paperback Usagi Yojimbo slipcase set delivered! It's pretty great.
>friends don't do gift giving
>family doesn't celebrate Christmas
>/co/ is the only person who'll I'll exchange gifts with
Oh well, at least some stranger somewhere in the world will be happy. I'd love to get the Werewolf by Night omnibus but it's wishful thinking.
Gonna finally get Winschluss' Pinocchio, Thurber's Infomaniacs, Hunt Emerson's Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Chuck Forsman's Revenger stuff and his other Fanta book that isn't TEOTFW, Dressing by Deforge and some Retrofit stuff. Oh and the Andre The Giant bio! And more Andy Poyiagi stuff.
Where did you find Empowered Deluxe Vol 1? Also can you post pictures of the smorgasborg edition? I have the first couple omnivore editions and I really enjoy the series and I was thinking of upgrading to the smorgasborg edition.
I just bought this today. Diggle's Losers Omni for 5 euros.
I am now the proud owner of the entire Starman omnibus collection. I can't wait to crack into it after finals.
I bought a copy of Silver Surfer: Requiem but accidentally ordered it in French.
Since i would have to mail it overseas to return it i figured I'd offer it to one of you fine gentlemen
getting a half dozen books from my mom, the biggest being Fear Agent V1 library ed , then a couple smaller things like simonson thor tpb's and Man without fear.
I'm hoping i get enough birthday money that i can maybe pickup something nice after Xmas on sale
>Green Bay fan
>after losing to the Lions and Bears at Lambeau
Amazon from a third party seller for $90. I had about $85 in store credit so it wasn't so bad. And the Smorgasbord editions are great. The first one is down to $66 at Amazon. Maybe cheaper at IST but I don't know. They are huge and over sized. Instead of ten issues like the Omnivore they are 20 issues.
They are pretty tall and have a nice slipcase for them. They also have an embroidered lace bookmark attached to them which is something I haven't seen with the Image Deluxe Editions.
I'm going to get the first Smorgasbord edition next week when I get paid.
Je parle francais ne pas tres bien.
But I hope to get a lot better at reading since I just bought the first 30 volumes of JoJo in french for 100 bucks.
Getting them in Japanese is like 400$ with shipping and I'm too impatient to wait for the new hc release (which admittedly looks fantastic).
Does anyone else buy comics in languages other than english?
Is it good compared to cape classics like All star Superman or Watchmen? I'm not really into cape but I love hellboy and I think Starman was in one of the earlier crossover... The one with Batman.
I just really noticed, I have hardly no hard copies of comics.
Whomever you bought it from must be a fucking idiot. Even if you know nothing about comics you can see from the quality of the book that it's worth a lot more than that.
You should read some stuff by stanislaw lem dude, you'll love it.
I'm surprised there aren't any comic adaptations even though there are some excellent like Tarkovsky's Solaris or the recent Le Congress which is essentially Space Jam on acid.
>I'm running dangerously low on space
ya i don't even know what im going to do. quit buying shit. but even with doing that, collecting runs in their entirety will totally put me out of space. maybe i'll sell some stuff
Yeah that was neat.
I recently bought hellboy volumes 1-10 by crosscult. It seemed like a bargain so I didn't think long.
Turns out the books are like 10cm high each and all black and white even though they are like 20$ a volume.
take all your books out, caress them tenderly and say itll be alright, sell your bookcases, and get a bigass wall unit made with thick shelves that will never bow or sag, with the exact compartments you want.
you've got the cash, youve got the mancave, just fucking go for it.
whatever shelving you get from ikea just make sure the overall thickness of the shelf will handle the weight on it, shorter shelves can be thinner, longer ones thicker... nothing sucks more than spending a chunk of money on a unit and your books have fucked it all up within a year
oh man, that really really sucks dude, maybe see if you can sell them or return if they were really recent buys? the Library editions are wonderful and apparently quite cheap on IST, if youre in the states and are the prefered editions, even if i dont have them myself. lol
Looking to sell Preachers Book 1-5 for space and because I don't really intend to do a reread anytime soon.
Jack Vance is holding the spot where Cerebus Vol 1 was, which I loaned to my brother the second I finished it.
Oversized books are on the scifi shelf.
Wednesday Comics HC
various Marvel/DC TPBs from the last decade
Boxes of floppies.
High Society and the Illuminatus! Trilogy
hey yall, anyone of you know some good canadian online stores? With the exchange rate, buying from the states is extremely expensive. They've already raised us to $5.25 for $4 comics, maybe I could snatch some older issues for decent canadian prices.
I am still new to comics and havent read a lot.
Got someone here that wants to sell some comics can you recommend anyting out of this:
Green Lantern Emerald Twillight
Daredevil The Devil inside and out (both Vol.)
Deadpool Secret Invasion
The Punisher: Born
Superman Our World at War
Also he got something called:
X-Force Angel & Demons
X-Force Old Ghosts
A daredevil comic but I forgot the name. Cover is white background and he is falling head-bottom.
Also 2 JLA-Books without title. One of them theres superman (behind him the other JLA) and bottom right is shazam.
Other one looks more seriou, different style and has greenish background with the members of JLA on it. A lot more shadow/muscle.
Don't know maybe one of those is worth a read. Tell me and I'll get it. Otherwise I'd like to buy Planet Hulk. I heared its supposed to be a good read.
buy hellblazer tpbs, cheap, lots of material, lengthy reads, great artwork, amazing story, one of the best comic book characters ever in the history of comics
>I'm a huge fan of the Luna brothers
>fan of the Luna brothers
I don't even know where to begin.
So, the thing is I live in Colombia and here the only comics you'll get are so fucking overpriced is crazy, besides there's not really that big of a catalog so what I'm looking forward to is basically whatever the realise in Panamericana next
If I was American I'd have so many comics ;_;
I'm not at home right now but it is really cool, it collects in hardcover The long Halloween, Dark victory, Haunted knight and Catwoman: when in Rome
It actually was the first physical comics I bought so it holds a special place for me. the really cool thing about it really is that the translation is from Spain so and in Spanish DC translations (unlike marvel ones) they don't translate the names so it still "catwoman" instead of "gatubela"
I bought omnibus 1 for fifty months ago. 2-5 and the JSA book were 179 on ebay. I don't mind paying full price for a book if its oop, but I won't pay one cent more than the suggested retail price.
went home for lunch and had massive fuck huge package from IST.
this came. it's pretty big. i want to say it's the size of my silver surfer artist edition. for $20 what a fucking steal. who knows if it's any good, no one here seems to know a thing about it. i'll post some pics when i get home from work tonight and have some time to crack it open
vol 3 came from amazon and the delivery driver must have ran the package over three or four times... it's pretty much destroyed
they didn't even have me send it back after i showed pics, they just mailed me out a new one. roll the dice and see if you get it in better condition this time around
amazon a shit m9
dude yes they will.. send that shit back. mark it as damaged, ups will pick it up for free
they will ship you out a new book before you even send yours back... you'd be a fool not to..
>ups will pick it up for free
i don't live in the US though, I'd have to pay to ship it back and amazon only refunds you up to 20 bucks in shipping fees (it'd cost at least 50).
I'm fucked unless they decide to cover all costs or gimme back my moneyz.
i'm not too worried about the money though, i just want to buy hellboy LE vol 1 and 2 in perfect condition before they go out of print. time to pray for IST to get more copies.
I mean those are pretty neat choises for cape but once you have read most of the greats you might want to diversify your taste just a little bit...
Not trying to be an asshole though, that absolute all star superman looks fantastic.
Cavewoman and the Chaykin book were dollar bin, and I like me some old school, one-man-show pulp. Body Bags thread over in /aco/ prompted me to check that series out. And then The Caterer and the Shaky Kane books are just good bizarre fun.
What narrow taste.
Invincible may be too close to Spider-Man for ole DC-litist there.
>I gave up in a few minutes.
ya.. i think i gave it about 10 pages, no idea whats going on.. i looked at all the awesome photography then went back to laddering in sc2
i don't regret the $20, maybe i'll pick it up again in the future and flip through it
Not that anon, but yes, that's the Sandman boxset. I think it's gorgeous. I don't think I'll regret not getting the absolute editions.
I'd post photos but I have my Sandman collection in a box until Christmas.
How's legacy of the void?
I didn't really like the changes they made for heart of the swarm so I haven't played in a while but I play mostly protoss so thinking about picking it up again assuming they got at least a few neat new things...
amazing.. absolutely amazing. there are some current balance issues with units but they will get sorted in time. the overall economy changes have proved for a much more fast paced game. the new units require much more micro.
games are funner to watch, surprisingly the beginning downtime not being there did not hurt entertaining casting. pvp is now a fun matchup to watch. it's awesome. i think that would probably be the community consensus as well
i should his masters as random this season which im insanely hype about. i think im ranked like 1800 in the united states and im the 54th ranked random player in the u.s. so i'm doing pretty good right now for taking an 8 month break
yeah im horrible with tvt and tvz. terran is by far my first race, i just can't get a good feel for it. i have like a 19% win rate.. but with toss or zerg 70+
>Private Eye looks good but it's landscape which I absolutely hate
>Wanted to get Kabuki or Goon Library edition but each is 40 bucks and don't know how long they'll go for plus I never read them
>Still need 6 volumes of Vagabond
>Still need 3 volumes of Hellboy LE
How do you fund yourself /co/mrades?
Also what I should pick up?
So, what are you guys reading at the moment?
Also, rate my stuff.
Did any of you guys get this thing? How's the binding and gutter loss?
I'm so in love with the Hellboy LEs that I'm thinking on selling my tiny Sin City 3rd editions and getting it.
Ahh, thanks I think they look pretty good myself, not to toot my own horn. Tis the season as they say.
