>Diamond Comic Distributors have announced that Secret Wars #9 will be delayed until January 6, 2016. Originally advertised as an eight issue series, the series has experienced several delays leading to it pushing past the originally planned end on October 7 as "All-New All-Different Marvel" launched.
>In August, Marvel announced Secret Wars #9 as the new finale, with the reason given that Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic's plans for the finale couldn't fit in the solicited Secret Wars #8.

Yeah, which is why he was able to get the first few issues done without delays since that's what he used the lead time on. But the last two issues were double-sized, so that was essentially 6 issues he still had to do without lead time. Hence why they split issue 7 into two normal sized issues.

So is it true that Secret Wars is hurting the industry? Saw some twitter talk from comic shop owners and industry people like Kurt Busiek and Erik Larson about having excess issues of both Convergence and SW. Both comic designed to be purchased by comic shops rather than readers.

Convergence, yes. SW's problem is that all the delays and line-wide relaunching is causing some market confusion. Some people not realising that the new books are coming out because SW isn't over yet and some people not realising that SW isn't over because the new books are coming out. It's a bit of a clusterfuck when it comes to clarity for readers.
Convergence is just a mass of unsold issues laying around comic shops though that they are trying their damndest to get rid of and cost LCSes a lot of money to the point that they're reluctant to get more DC books which is why DCYou floundered. Convergence was the Futures End theme month x2.

Yeah DC and Marvel only continue events because they sell well. Brevoort or Alonso have even admitted that's why they push events so much. And they sell well because events are almost always over ordered, especially ones like Convergence and SW where there are an absurd number of tie ins. My LCS has a dollar bin specifically for events now since Convergence, SW, Original Sin, and Forever Evil (to a lesser extent) took a lot of room in the normal dollar bins.
And SW delays are hurting some retailers and ANAD since some readers are afraid of spoilers.
