-Remove siblings.
-Remove fruit trip
-Remove/shorten Styraccosaurus scene
--Have Arlo get swept away in the same flood that killed his father.
-Add one more scene with Thunder Clap to cement him as main antagonist and tie him into the theme of fear a bit more.
-More scenes with t-rexes. Either get Arlo to the watering hole or don't bring it up.

The biggest problem with TGD was timing. The first act is filled with inane bullshit that when you get to the meat of the story, there's no time left to explore it. Thunder Clap, with his insistence that he can't feel fear, would be a great antagonist, but as it stands the finale feels like, "we need one final set piece. How about we bring back the pterodactyls?"

They did.

They actually pushed this back and released Inside Out first because they wanted a really good movie after 3 less stellar efforts.
>>
Let me give you an example of executive meddling.

In one of the later scripts, Poppa teaches Arlo that if you blow on one of the glowbugs, it will brighten. Arlo teaches this same trick to Spot. At the climax of the movie, Arlo is injured in a storm and is nearly frozen to death. Spot, grieving, finds an ember from a lightning strike, blows on it, and creates fire. This both saves Arlo, and leads to human society, with Spot being the first human to "invent" fire. It's the big connection between dinosaur society and human society.

Executives decided they wanted the tyrannosauruses to be cowboy parodies. One of them forced in a scene where the cowboys are sitting around a campfire, a cliche from any given Western movie, in this case they're all bragging about their scars. Since dinosaurs now have simple, unexplained access to fire, that rendered Spot's big "invention" scene moot, so they cut that. Now in the climax, it's Spot that's endangered, and the "blowing" lesson is changed into Arlo saving Spot's life by blowing on him, thus curing drowning.
>>
>>77823140
That sounds awful.
>>
>>77823140
Well that's fucked.

Did they ever show how the Rexes made fire?

>>
Why didn't the Good Dino spawn a general like Inside Out did and like how Zootopia will inevitably have
>>
>>77825291
Because it's not that interesting of a movie. Like the world feels so empty, unlike in Monsters Inc or Finding Nemo or the Incredibles. You can't really do much with what they've given you. The world is so realistic that there's no alienness to it.

I know the quality of a product isn't shown by how much fanfic it produces, but it does show the interest people have in the characters and the world. I really could go on about how much they fell flat on with this movie.
>>
How did they tie things together with no fingers? The fence to the chicken coop is fastened with rope, and the mom's seeding device appeared to be tied together as well

I saw it, and even from the trailers I thought the movie looked beautiful, the scenery is just breath taking and very realistic, but then you have these goofy candy coloured cartoon dinosaurs running around and it's a little off putting. Like why not make the trees look cartoonish too? but besides that nit pick the story didn't feel like a Pixar story, you could have cut out the logos shown me this movie and I would have said Dreamworks. Not saying that's bad but it's a very simple movie for Pixar
>>
>>77831148
Everyone knows that the modern land before time is Ice Age. First one was good please stop making these now.
>>
>>77832497

My sentiments exactly, the environments, the water, the trees, the land, everything looks pretty breathtaking and almost real. They did a bang up job on that but the rest was pretty lackluster.
Those velociraptors looked hideous too.

>>
>>77833622
That was the most egregious thing and biggest problem with the finished piece.

I can tell you the drug trip sequence was more drawn out, a lot funnier, and also more relevant. It was the first time Arlo and Spot really bonded, having laughed a lot after being angry with each other (Spot having raided the corn, Arlo having rejected all the food Spot hunted for).

There's also scenes involving Arlo and Spot "making their marks" together. It implies it's the origin of human art. Lots of early cavepaintings are just hand prints. In the early teasers/posters they show the muddy dinosaur print right next to Spot's muddy handprint, but they even cut that out of the ads when they cut it out of the film. In the film Arlo just makes his print at the end, alone.

>>
>>77835563
Good Dinosaur doesn't make the same cut as WALL-E on the basis that it doesn't really have nearly as much heart.

Good Dinosaur is strictly Meh Tier.
>>
>>77835254
I wasn't really a fan of the acid trip sequence in general, but it's nice that they were actually going to do something meaningful with it.

It's strange, thinking that random shit like the fruit, the marks, and the blowing were actually going somewhere. Why did corporate force all the shit that they did?
>>
>>77835697
The problem with bloated production companies (and lots of other industries in general) is that there are a bunch of executives that don't really do anything, but they have to justify their salaries by ordering people to do shit. So they'll order the writers or animators to make changes, just to keep everybody busy and make themselves look good, even if it's not in the best interest of the product.

Do you have a website or software or service that would have been perfect but they keep making changes and updates to it every couple of months, and the changes are never for the better? Same phenomenon.
>>
>>77835650
>half a good movie should be God Tier

no
>>
>>77835099
This is how I feel. I really couldn't get into Inside Out. The only scene that really stood out for me was the dream scene.
Sure TGD wasn't the most imaginative movie but it was solid all throughout and I dug the trex cowboys and torture porn
>>
>>77817669
Felt like scenes were taken from others movies at times.
>>
>>77838348
>really dug the t-rex cowboys

Great animation on all their walk/run cycles. The animators really studied their shit. They saved the film.
>>
>>77838408
I fucking loved that run. Broke out into laughter every time it came on screen. Anyone have a gif?
>>
my friend and I watched it yesterday and did a review. In short we ripped it a new one but the end verdict was that in spite of all the film's flaws, it was worth seeing for Arlo and Spot.

god damnit every scene where they're together is fantastic. The chemistry just works. All the bits of Spot climbing over Arlo and cosying up to him were adorable and a joy to watch.

looking back, I think the one thing that bugs me more than anything else is that one goofy dinosaur with all the animals on him. I feel the movie may well have been better if he wasn't there.
>>
>>77826770
Wha?
What the fuck are you talking about?
>>
Having watched the film I have to say, I wasn't expecting it to be as dark as it did. I almost thought Pixar was going to be lazy and go full on Land Before Time on us, but it sort of didn't. I do like theme of Arlo trying to overcome his fears and become more independent as he journeys with Spot. I think what really sucked about this movie is the fact that they introduced some side chracters that I barely remember. The triceratops was probably the funniest thing in that whole movie, yet, it gets one minute of screen time. Instead we get stereotypical cowboy T-Rexes and a pretty shallow Pterodactyl villain (can I even consider this guy a villain?)
Also, >>77823140 makes a really good point. The lack of connection between Spot and Arlo is pretty surprising when you compare it to Inside Out, where you really felt a strong attachment between Joy and Sadness. Good Dinosaur wasn't THAT bad, but compared to the last five years of mediocrity, this is probably the least bad Pixar film to come out as of now. Let's just hope Finding Dory doesn't disappoint.
>>
>>77840264
>looking back, I think the one thing that bugs me more than anything else is that one goofy dinosaur with all the animals on him. I feel the movie may well have been better if he wasn't there.

I liked that joke. I think the point was to mislead the audience into thinking there was going to be a subplot about the mystical sage advice of mother nature but it just ended up just being a schizophrenic dinosaur.

Ultimately though this movie rang really hollow. I would say this was the most paint by numbers Pixar film since Cars. The hyper realistic backgrounds and the incredibly cartoony dinosaurs clashed horribly. It was so jarring. A lot of this movie generally seemed tonally inconsistent.

For me, whenever they go for the feels lately it always feels like they're overdoing the feels and it takes me right out of it.

On the other hand, the last Pixar movie I actually still like is Ratatouille. And I don't see one I'm interested in on the upcoming schedule until Incredibles 2.
