Why do people buy collector's editions of DVDs/Blurays/Video Games? They're nothing more than big bulky hunks of plastic that will sit on your shelf or in a closet collecting dust.

This hunk of junk is $150 on Amazon. Why would anyone spend that much money on this crap? There can't be much of an after market to even call it a "collectible."

I guess I'll never understand toy collectors and their need for tacky, useless, expensive plastic.

Broken eggs in pan this morning, cracked shell on floor. This meal is afraid of me. I have seen it's nutrition facts. The buffets are extended bowls and the bowls are full of milk and when the drains finally curdle, all the flakes will get soggy. The accumulated filth of all their sugar and marshmallow bits will foam up about their spoons and all the children and parents will look up and shout "Feed us!"
...and I'll look down, and whisper "no."
They had a choice, all of them. They could have had a balanced breakfast like my Aunt Jemima, or General Mills. Decent men, who believed in whole wheats and fresh fruits. Instead the followed the droppings of mascots and fast foods and didn't realize that the meals led to diabetes until it was too late.
Don't tell me they didn't have a choice.
Now the rest of the day stands on the brink, staring down into less important meals, all those nutritionists and marketers and oversleepers... and all of a sudden, nobody has anything to eat.

Which reminds me...

Hey Super fans, Stan Lee here because I fucked Zack Snyder's wife. I'm here to show you the Man of Steel General Zod Collector's Edition!
Boy I want to tell you this is Super. Not only does it look like General Zod, and what a head of General Zod it is, but watch what happens when you push the little button in the back. That's right, his eyes light up! General Zod, master of heat vision, and he can be yours. Just push that little button in the back. How about that?
And will wonders never cease. This Super beautifully sculpted head of General Zod comes with a great Blu Ray and DVD of the Man of Steel all located by twisting his neck and popping off his head. How morally torn can you be?
EXCELSIOR!

Fun flact, the original alien costume as designed by Geiger had the skull fully visible through the plastic dome, as he felt that clearly seeing the human origins of the monster would be scarier. But after seeing the preliminary recordings, Ridley Scott realized that the dome was no longer see-through and decided that it was a better and more truly "alien" look if it had no eyes to speak of. Geiger didn't agree and was kind of pissed at his vision being changed.

However, the skull and the sockets were kept intact and can be seen in a few scenes through the dome.

>>
>>77813007
I didn't say that. Are you a moron? Are you mentally challenged? The suit was used throughout the film precisely like Geiger had made it, but due to the lighting of the sets the skull part did not show up except for certain scenes. Scott liked that it appeared sleek and black and demanded it be kept like that, but Geiger felt that seeing the skull was important to better understand that the alien takes physical traits from its host when gestating inside them. In some scenes and stills, you can clearly see the skull however.

By the time they made Resurrection, Geiger was completely out of the picture and busy writing angry letters to Twentieth Century Fox for repeatedly bastardizing his legacy. That they decided that it might suddenly it be cool to show the skull part is completely pointless, because we are talking about the alien of the the first film, which as you can see with your fucking eyes, is the version they used for the DVD case, complete with the semi-transparent dome that hid the skull in the original film. The one on the right is how Geiger had envisioned it originally.

It was different from the other Alien movies, sure, but that shit was the best kind of insane.
Reminder that one of the most oftquoted/referenced scenes in the franchise was Ripley walking through the clone room. Scariest thing ever to come out of Alien.

People who don't know that you can zoom in on the TV are the reason DBZ is released cropped on Blu-ray and not in it's native 4:3 format. I hate you people.
>>
>>77813868
>anytime a character is played by someone of color it's forced political correctness
And I'm sure you blame political correctness on why you have no friends, job, or gf.
>>
>>77814169
better than my cropped DVD's in 4:3. complete fucking mess.
>>
>>77814175
Hey I only don't have two of those. and the reason I don't have the other two is because of political correctness
>>

I used to have one too, anon.
Never again.

>>
>>77803330
>>
>>77814169
There is a problem, though.
Back when movies were on VHS the producers ended up cropping the scenes, but had control over how. This made sure that left-dominated scenes had as much impact as right-dominated scenes. They'd even make sure to pan the cropped film if there were a lineup or the entire shot needed to be seen. This is very evident in a couple of places in the VHS version of Ghostbusters II.

When you zoom in on a TV you only ever get to see what's in the middle of the screen. This means scenes like conversations that cut between the characters are usually fucked up.
>>
>>77813062
Alright. Which of my ex-girlfriends are you?
>>
>>77814193
>implying
DBZ was produced with 4:3 in mind, It was made from 1989-1996. It's meant to be fullscreen.
>>
>>77813838
Not who you're replying to but you could see it, just not all the time. It ended up being better overall. Made it more subtle, and all the scarier when and if you did see it.
>>
>>77814193
>cropped in 4:3
>an 80s tv series

You do know that widescreen televisions are a fairly recent development, right?
>>
>>77814457
Kai was forced to be Widescreen in Japan on TV, but the Blu-rays there and both the DVDs and Blu-rays in America are 4:3 because that's the way it's meant to be seen. Thank you based anon for backing me up.

Geiger shouldn't have been such a bitch. Clearly seeing anything brings understanding, and understanding is a fear killer. It's not like he had the skulls removed. Hell, it was still a skull-under-dome design, only the dome was darker than expected.

And don't tell me that wouldn't be goddamned horrifying if you shone your flashlight in its face only to see the skull underneath staring back at you. If Ridley didn't point that out, he probably should have.

DVDs are cheap as fuck to make these days, so a lot of blurays include a copy. Sometimes even with a file partition, so you can copy the movie onto a electronic device to watch.

3D version is likely just thrown in because it's an expensive special set. Least you can watch them when VR cinemas becomes a thing.

Yeah I checked the amazon deets after I posted it, feel like a fool. maybe they'll actually look better on a modern TV. I was watching them on a toob for the nostalgia but I guess that worked against me in this case.

obviously they'll still be cropped but, oh well.

sorry, I was using shitty language ironically.

but your post is confusing, I was convinced the dvd's were produced in fullscreen. and didn't realize until after reading the amazon product details that they were in fact butchered.
>>
>>77815377
The only DBZ DVD's in fullscreen released in the US are the very original singles that have poor bitrate for their video, the US Dragon Boxes but those were limited and are out of print. There were these level sets being released on Blu-ray on 4:3. but people are dumb and think 4:3 means it's not HD, when things can be 4:3 and still be HD, so those were cancelled and now we have shitty blu-ray season that are also in 16:9.
>>
>>77815421
>but people are dumb and think 4:3 means it's not HD

that's really fucking sad. do people not know the difference between aspect ratio and resolution? that makes me wanna blow up Chiaotzu all over again.
