The earlier stuff is much more 80's action hero. Lots of weird bad guys and lots of daggers, ballistic knives and rocket launchers.

War Zone is where it starts getting a little darker I think. The first arc has Frank infiltrating a gang by forcing one of them into convincing the others that he's his brother.

Probably a lot of the issues in between the ones I've listed in the older series'. Lots of filler issues that are terrible.

Personally I didn't like the Frankencastle
Stuff but a lot people enjoyed it.

Oh yeah there a couple of others to avoid. There's a mini series where Frank becomes some kind of angel of vengeance and has supernatural weapons, and there's a 90's series where he becomes mob boss for some reason.

Funny thing about that panel is that the girl thought that she is getting ridiculed because she kept pushing her own idea of Jake being the punisher. She loses her shit and tells she is quitting her job as a psychiatrist because she made such a stupid mistake.

Then Jake silently confesses to her that he really, really is the punisher... and everything he said was true, even shows her the prison he runs and so on.

Yeah, it looks hilarious out of context. But Jake really was very heavily psychologically damaged, is extremely obsessed with the idea of punishing - not just killing, actually torturing criminals - and is borderline schizophrenic (has to try to hold down his own hand back with his other arm from killing his boss, who "needs to be punished").

However it can be justified since in the place he lives, police protection is a subscription service, and you can legally get away from multiple homocides with a black credit card.

Where does Ultimate Punisher fall? I'm sure it's a bias, but I felt Ultimate Punisher relishes a bit too much in the violence, also the only Frank to explicitly screw up and kill an innocent, only to disappear.

I've always liked Jigsaw, but most of the actual stories he's in are weak.

The MAX Punisher run after Ennis stopped(Long Cold Dark) Is a bone of contention here since it changes Frank's motivation and his attitudes toward shis family. So best to just conside rit an Alt continuity. Valley Forge is a good stopping point

I've always wanted to see Ennis write him, preferably seriously. The closest he ever came is that video game from 2005, which he's listed as a writer of, though that might only be because of how much it took verbatim from his Marvel Knights run.
