One of the many things turning me off of modern TellTale games.

Like in Game of Thrones. I got Episode 1 for free and when I played as the kid king, I tried everything I could to make peace with the douche guy. And then he stabs you anyway. And this happens, regardless of what choices you make in that act.

TellTale likes to say that they've progressed from simple point-and-click games like Sam and Max, but these games honestly feel like a step back. No real puzzles, and ultimately you're going to be railroaded in some matter that makes your choices moot.

I feel that Jane was never meant to exist. The story was building Kenny vs Luke from the moment they met right up till his death, which just sorta happened.

Kenny should've returned as the leader of an opposing group in season 2. That's the only way I think he really would've worked well. He was already willing to steal other people's shit in season 1 so it's not that big of a stretch to turn him into a Carver-esque figure minus the rape.

Clem being the protagonist should've also been put off until season 3 when she's like 13 or 14 or something. Grown adults relying on a child so much was ridiculous. She would've worked better if you were playing Luke and she was your moral compass relaying everything that Lee taught her. That was the point I realized that in Telltale games, the second someone has a chance of not appearing they either fade to the background or they end up appearing regardless of your choice. This. S2E1 Clem was very resourceful but still very much a kid, made mistakes a kid would make, and was treated like a kid. Then all of a sudden you have Carver giving her a villain speech about being his second-in-command or some shit. I wouldn't even mind the adults putting so much faith in a little girl if it happened gradually over the course of the season. She only had to beat a single zombie solo for everyone to essentially make a little girl their leader.

Well, the thing is, with Kenny as a protagonist, he has enough pros and cons to him, that you can play him how you like, or think he should be, and reap the consequences of what happens.

Maybe if you're too pushy, people hate you for it. Maybe if you fight with the wrong cast member, he goes out of his way to screw you over. Maybe if you focus on what's good for your family, someone gets mad at you, but if you think too much of the group, your family isn't happy with you.

The problem with Clem as a main character is that she's still a little girl. Even in the zombie outbreak, people should expect her to not be completely helpless, but she shouldn't be everyone's first choice for someone to rely on. It would have been better if the game had focused more on what it means to be a little kid in a situation like this, that it's a lot harder, even if you have your wits about you.
But no, we get super clem instead.

I ended up hating Kenny when I had to convince him to go with me to save Clem because I didn't have his back on the Larry situation. I killed your son for you, let Ben die, and was honest with you about my bite and you're having second thoughts about saving Clem because I didn't have your back once? I was pissed in season 2 when he was talking about seeing Clem as family, sure as hell wasn't an important enough family member if Lee had to beg you to come save her.

I knew the moment she walked in without the baby that she didn't actually lose him, but when she came in and said "I lost the baby" there was no option to tell her "No you fucking didn't". I still killed Kenny knowing this since from Clem's perspective he was acting like a rabid animal over a mistake, but when the game then gave me the option to abandon Jane I took it.

Some of the choices are to get certain people of your side. Shawn was dead in the comic long before the game, so that one wasn't too bad, it also gave you the chance to see what kind of impact your choices make. Lucky for me, I'm a Kennyfag so it just gave me brownie points but when half the people you appease end up dead or gone then it is pretty useless.
