>First animated film nominated for Best Picture in history
>Only animated film to be nominated before introduction of 10 nominees
>Only 2D animated film nominated
How and why did it escape the prejudice?
>>77755720
Motherfucking Howard Ashman lyrics is how.

How did Tarzan not even get a nomination? Leagues better than Beauty & The Beast. I still don't understand the "award hype" for that movie. Beast is the best part of that movie, everything else is pretty boring or "comedic relief".

It "escaped" by virtue of the category not existing at the time, IIRC. "Best animated" was then added for every year after that.

Best Animated movie wasn't added until 2001, a decade later.
That still doesn't explain why other Disney movies beforehand didn't get any sort of nod (outside of Snow White which obviously got a special recognition).
I think it was nominated in a kind-of "Eh" year for movies. The other nominees for Best Picture in 1992 were JFK, Bugsy, The Prince of Tides (?), and The Silence of the Lambs, which ended up winning.

Academy's pretty much always looked down on animation. There's been sympathizers though. Gregory Peck actually quit being President of the Academy when his attempts at lobbying a nomination and win for Jungle Book failed.

Of all the hills to "die" on, he chose the Jungle Book? OK, I guess....
Because it's really fucking good.
>>77756546
Tarzan was shit, that's why.
>>77761432
Jungle Book is amazing though
Disney would never come up with a better batch of songs.
I truly, deeply miss when Disney made animated movie posters like this...
>>77761972
...instead of this.
>>77761992
I'm sure you know better than the hundreds of designers, analysts, and marketers that make them.

>I miss this thing
>U HTNK U KNO BETR?

There was another poster

oh, that one's pretty good I guess
