The problem is that these shows never show any sort of happy balance or compromise.

If a wimpy character becomes TOO BURLY and learns that there's more to life than leaving humanity behind, he goes back to being wimpy and nothing else. No lifting weights, no picking up sports, no going for jogs or whatever.

Why not have a real treatment of how a boy would want to do something traditional masculine that she honestly doesn't understand and have her be supportive, or try to join him but screws up and he helps her or they come to an understanding and it's left at that.
Like..what if the geeky male friend actually wants to go out for the football team and he stops hanging out for a while and actually DOES make it. What if he actually starts talking to girls too?
Will the show take steps to enforce the status quo and demonize this change or will they create a new status quo.
Or will they push this story off on some character who's like the geeky male cast member.
