Modern-day warrior kings.

I know it's awesome, but does it really make sense in a modern age to have the leader of your people fighting in wars all over the world/galaxy?
>>
Yes it does, because these world's are supposed to be eccentric and filled with fantasy and bizarre adventure. Wakanda is supposed to be an ancient hidden kingdom like Narnia that isn't known to the outside world
>>
>>77742812
More like having monarchs in the first place.
>>
>>77742812
>but does it really make sense in a modern age to have the leader of your people fighting in wars all over the world/galaxy?

If he's your strongest warrior, why not?
>>
>>77742867
There are several monarchs still in the world
>>
It's no stranger than anything else. Politics are weird.
>>
>>77742858

I get that, but it's hardly likely that a country's best leader would also happen to be its greatest warrior.

For instance, Aquaman having the throne implies that he's the strongest person in Atlantis. (If he isn't, then why isn't the stronger person being sent to fight Atlantis' battles?)

So if you're strong enough to kill Aquaman, you know you're strong enough to kill anyone in Atlantis.
>>
>>77742880

Because if he dies, then you not only have to replace your head of state, but whoever killed him knows that his country is without its strongest protector. It'd be like having the greatest general in the United States military not only be the President, but also be actively fighting wars on the battlefield.

From a story perspective, it's awesome - it's like leading by example in its coolest form. But politically, it doesn't make sense.

An army is still stronger than a man, even a super man. Aquaman, Black Panther and what not are out fighting every military battle on their own.

For an in universe reason, most of these Warrior Kings are regents of isolationist hidden kingdoms that don't want anything to do with the outside world and are wary to lend support to such causes, so it is up to the Hero/Monarch who often has ties to the outside world to get involved.
>>
>>77743098
*are NOT out fighting
>>
>>77742928
It's about being a leader just as much as it is about being a warrior. They're supposed to represent their people in battles so the people don't have to fight themselves. It takes more than strength to carry the responsibility of fighting in the name of an entire civilization
>>
>>77742812

Aquaman and Black Panther are basically the strongest people in their nations and neither are the kind to just command from behind the lines.
>>
>>77742973
Hence these characters being superheroes, which involves them being larger than life, extraordinary figures that can go far beyond the limitations of normal people or what is set in reality
>>
>>77743098

That's a fair point about the hidden kingdoms. They're as much a diplomat as they are warriors or kings, and getting their military forces involved would probably have diplomatic implications.
>>
>>77742973
If he dies, then he wasn't that great a warrior king in the first place.
>>
>>77742973
These are immaginary/fantasy worlds. It doesn't need to make sense. And warrior kings always have been part of the human history as well (Alexander the Great), or even politician/military leaders (Caesar, Napoleon)
>>
I just learned that BP has a PhD in Physics from Oxford and that is just the coolest shit ever

>Avatar-style ancestral knowledge from past leaders
>ridiculous strength and speed
>fucking OP metal resources
>a doctorate

For as much as people complain about the lack of prominent black heroes, they ought to stop whining about how we should have a black Peter Parker and hop on the T'Challa train instead. Dude's based as fuck.
>>
>>77743273
Panther is literally Marvel's Batman with even worse plot armor
>>
>>77742812
>does it really make sense in a modern age to have the leader of your people fighting in wars all over the world/galaxy?
No but it's cool so it doesn't have to make sense.
>>
>>77743391
Marvel's batman is better than him so his plot armor is not that good.
>>
>>77742973

medieval europe would like to have a word with you
>>
>>77742928
>(If he isn't, then why isn't the stronger person being sent to fight Atlantis' battles?

Because the rest of Atlantis thinks the outside world is shit. Doubly so for Wakanda which is a racist fuckhole that would let the rest of the world die from cancer.
>>
>>77742973
It makes sense because for Arthur, he really isn't an administrator. Being the strongest is what he is good at. People like Orm or maybe even Mera are more suited and have prior experience since they were born and raised as royalty.

This.
>>
>>77742812

Maybe... maybe it's the reason they are the king.
>>
>>77747607
Black Panther's tie-in to Secret Invasion was awesome.
>>
>>77742812
Yeah see the King of Jordan. Its important symbolically if you have a monarchy for sure
>>
>>77742812

To me, a King/Queen being a superhero doesn't really make any slick of sense because comics never portray the royals as being basically luxurious window dressing like most current day royal families are. Comics tend to like their King and Queens to be authoritarian rulers with absolute power, so being a superhero would immediately mean that they're not only skipping on their duties of running the kingdom on a day to day basis but they're also putting the kingdom in constant risk by fighting baddies, since almost never do these character have siblings or immediate family who would take over the crown and duties, meaning there's a big chance of civil war erupting in the aftermath of the hero's death when there's a power vacuum.

The only character who I can kinda see working as a king is Namor, and only because he's such a pompous dick that he wouldn't really give a fuck beyond his immediate wants, plus he's always invading the surface land and then quickly losing/giving up so it's not like he's that great of a ruler anyway.

Trusty advisers and siblings.

On the subject I think it is weird that no one has suggested to BP/Aquaman that they transition their country into democracy. These kings hang out with mostly american heroes and the fact that they're absolute rulers from birth right would probably not sit right with their friends.
>>
>>77747837
Why would anyone give fuck? It's not like Black Panther starves his population and death camps the fuck out of them every Thursday.
>>
>>77747744
the fact that they're absolute rulers in general is fucked up. Aquaman can be as bro as he wants but its still fucked up he gets to rule for as arbitrary a reason as birthright
>>
>>77747852
Being a benevolent dictator doesn't make you less of one.
>>
>>77747864
>>77747837
In...I want to say Priest's run on Black Panther, it's shown that Tachala is less of a 'my word is law' king and more of a 'I'm the adult trying to keep control of a bunch of arguing children' sort of king.

He has to take brides from every tribe in Wakanda, at the same time, just to stop them from bitching and going to war. Which means he can't actually take a wife himself. He can't show too much affection for one of his brides either, lest one tribe be seen to be favoured over the others.

Even when he does everything right, the individual tribes are still plotting behind his back to take away his power, and undermining him at every turn. One of them tries to give Wakanda over to Man Ape just because they think Black Panther is too focused on bringing Wakanda into the world, instead of sticking as an isolationist nation like they had been.

All the time he's in America trying to foster relations and show that Wakanda has a right to be on the global stage, back home they're trying to usurp him, show America that they're the backwards thinking racist piles of shit that everyone thinks they are.

So Metal Wolf Chaos?
>>

Who gives fuck about benevolent dictators? Malevolent ones on the other hand...
>>
>>77743391
How dare you claim anyone's plot armor to be worse than Batman's. For shame!
>>
>>77747854
How? Literally every single civilization over 200 years old has featured some form of dynastic rulership. It worked fine.
We're still just in the test stages of finding out if our new way of things is any better.
Aquaman is free to enjoy the fruits of his ancestors labour, he wouldn't be around if they weren't successful.
>>
>>77748094
So what you are saying is that its your average African nation?

He's an excellent ruler though. Which is why nobody in Atlantis really cares, and neither should you.
>>
>>77747864
A benevolent dictator is actually a pretty good idea when you think about it, on the surface at least.

A guy who wants what's best for the largest amount of people and actually has the power to carry it out? Without a pack of assholes threatening to have the government shut down every time he does something they don't like? I'd be pretty fucking okay with that.

Of course, when you put that into practice, a very glaring question comes up. What does this guy believe is best for everybody? How does he determine that? Does he poll public opinion? Does he just go ahead and do things without any thought given to what we think?
>>
>>77742812
I think it depends on the setup.

With aquaman imo he is at his best when he is centered in the ocean and more natural to land matters. He is willing to work with JLA out of their friendship and knowing that them failing can mean the end of the world. However he doesn't diddle around the tower like others.

Basically have him be a reserve member and act as a less dickish Namor.

Bp worked best when he had his sister ruling and taking care of the big decisions in his absence. While wakanda does have a conciel BP being the full king and gone so long is stupid.
>>
>>77742858
Wakanda is known only to World Star HipHop.
