I will now storytime a peculiar marvel comic.
You see, early in the 00s marvel published a series of comics that were presenting HOW marvel citizens seen various characters.

It was basically Marvel Comics in-universe.
You had Daredevil being portrayed as a mix of Ghost Rider and Punisher, Captain America being a progaganda book, FF being a celebrity tabloid, Spider-Man being a scary alien, and X-Men, a suicide squad.

This is also one of the earlies Mark Millar's work for Marvel

According to interviews, he was free to kill damn near whomever he wanted.

Behind the scenes things may have contributed to Arena and Undercover being shit, but Hopeless did it no favors either. He chose who to kill and how, he chose to make the death's be real in a futile attempt to make them matter, and he chose to portray the characters as he did.

His situation sucked, but he still shit the bed.
