Which Batman cowl, from every comic, movie, and show, is the best? Which one is the most badass? Which one in the most ridiculous?
>>77725107
Prove me wrong
Nolan cowl.
most ridiculous coming through
>>77728088
I'm a huge Nolanfag, but no.
I mean, I give it props for for being the first mask that allows him to turn his head, but that's just from an engineering/mobility standpoint.
From a purely aesthetic standpoint, it's just kinda funny looking.
>>77725825
My man!
>>77728106
The fuck. How was that ever a cowl? Are those swords coming out of his head? No wonder Joker is laughing so hard.
>>77725825
Agreed
> not picking all of the above
>>77729838
Apparently all Batmans are terrible musicians. The Batman on guitar is fingering the tuning keys and strumming with an oven mitt on, the Batman on keyboard is one handing it, the Batman on bass is trying to play with a goddamn batarang, and the Batman on brass doesn't even have his lips on it.
>>77725107
I will take all of the above.
>>77729789
>Implying you wouldn't piss yourself at the sight of his head swords if you saw him in a dark alley
Az-Bats for honorable mention.
>>77725107
Somehow your pic is all three at once.
>>77728088
If you meant as an answer to the last question, sure.
It's one of the worst Batman cowls, second place to the Injustice one.
My personal favorite.
>>77729991
Man I'd probably like to read Bats go full bats. Worth a read?
>>77725825
My personal favorite. Although I struggle to see it work in live action media.
>>77729991
Is it jsut me, or is there something Mignolan about Robin and Nightwing in the back
>>77730518
Because of the "beak" it feels more like an Owlman cowl, but it does look cool
the arkham series gave him a great cowl!
Short Ears > Everything Else
>>77729991
Bruce is such a dork.
>>77725825
It sucks. There, done.
>>77730797
got emmmmmmm
>>77730785
I like short or stupid long, I just don't like in between.
>>77730559
I'd say so. The Doug Moench/Kelly Jones run isn't the most memorable of runs (aside from the art), but it's definitely interesting seeing how Bruce started to go off the deep end in the main books. Which is fairly kept to a minimum, oddly enough.
Also there's a fairly humorous exchange between Bruce and Gordon during their first meeting since Knightfall, so that's a plus.
>>77730619
Kelly Jones had the same kind of gothic/horror background as Mignola, so it works.
>>77728088
I find this cowl strikes the perfect balance between heroic and intimidating. When the ears are too long it looks silly, when the ears are too stubby it looks cute.
>>77730758
Perfect except that the slightly too long ears. Whatever it is, the only good Batcowls are the ones that have those little cuts near the cheekbones area.
>>77728088
For the lack of said v shaped cut, Nolan cowl is a shit
>>77730758
Because it's a slightly more form-fitting version of the Burton cowl.
>>77730810
I feel the same.
One big thing for me is how the nose is shaped. I hate ones where the nose is too distinct, like this:
>>77728088
It makes him look goofy.
I like ones where it blends into the slope of his head more. Like these:
>>77730518
>>77731030
Also, I think another issue with the Nolan cowl was how the mouth was cut. Unlike most cowls, his cheeks are covered, which makes his chin/jaw look too small for his head.
>>77725107
>hich Batman cowl, from every comic, movie, and show, is the best? Which one is the most badass? Which one in the most ridiculous?
For superhero stuff like batman or JLA i like short ones.
For spooky and criminal stuff like detective comics i like really long shit.
For martial arts and mystical stuff i like Adams's lenght
>>77731331
It's interesting you break down your interest by Batman's roles, yet Batman has to shuffle between these roles several time per night every time he goes out.
Which cowl do you think he'd pick if he knew he'd have to perform to the best of ALL his abilities in rapid-fire succession?
>>77731389
He takes the cowl that lengthens and shortens his ears as he wishes.
>>77731422
>the F-14 of bat-cowls
get the fuck out
>>77731429
You know you love it.
>>77731450i know that's what would really happen tho
>>77725825
The mouth looks stupid, otherwise 10/10
Long ears are better because they're more visible at a distance or with dim lighting, and the only reason he has the bat motif in the first place (which doesn't even look much like a bat) is to look scary.
I never got why Superman without the trunks was sacrilege, but Batman with short ears was fine, when the ears have a practical purpose.
>>77730758
>>77728088
I own these two cowls. Origins cowl is so good, but my all time favorite is TAS. Not sure how it would translate to real life though.
The one that actually looks scary.
>>77736147
Well, are you going to post it, or what?
TAS and Batman 1989.
Actually you can ask me any "favourite" question about Batman and that will be my answer so...
>>77736147
>can't turn his neck
>scary
It'll be scary when that nigga can't see shit
>>77736147
So, none of them?
>>77728106
Think he gets XM on those things?
>>77728106
Joker looks far worse than batman here.
>>77730518
>30 KB
reminds me of the guy from Berserker, Griffin.
Look at all these plebs.
hey guys, /m/ here.
Helmets > Cowls
>>77734065
Short ears gets associated with Frank Miller and Jim Lee (who himself enjoyed Miller's style on Batman). I think the other thing is that it was used for a long time on Batman, you can see it by the time Robin is around in the Golden Age and it continued all the way to the Silver Age.
Long ears makes more sense for scaring people though.
>>77728088
>Reveals his mouth and jawline
Can anyone explain to me why someone obsessed with keeping their identity secret would allow such a readily identifiable part of their face to be seen
>>77725825
Obviously the best
>>77738449
GRIIIFIIIIIITH!
>>77729897
well, mostly because it was a pain to get them to even hold them. Though I picked the oven mitt one particularly because of the ridiculous hands.
>>77728088
There are one or two things that kill this one for me, but by far the biggest one is the fact that the nose completely covers his nose, leaving no breathing holes, so Bale had to pant through his mouth to get enough air. It was obvious in the way it affected his performance, and he later commented on it. That's not a practical batsuit at all, because it would be impossible to actually fight in it.
>>77738516
How does he bend his legs?
>>77738920
Understandable. I have a MM Green, MM White, and Zeo Red power ranger on my shelf rocking out with tiny Metallica guitars.
What was the point of the eyebrow lines?
>>77738981
Looks like there's nostrril hols to me.
Made a chart of all the variations.
>>77739900
Favorite and least favorites.
>>77739700
In the comics, I would guess they're for facial expression. The brows could move, like the eyes on Spider-Man's mask. On the Adam West costume, I'd say they left them on just to make the costume goofier-looking.
>>77736383
It's to defend himself from man of murder
I wish the medium length ears would make a comeback. I'm getting sick of seeing the stubs everywhere, along with all the other ways the theatricality have been stripped from Batman.
>>77740017
I don't know why but for some bizarre reason I actually like this colour scheme. I think it'd work for a legacy Batman or something, especially a former Robin
>>77725825
This is seriously the plebest fucking thread I've seen in awhile. Everyone knows short ears are best you mongoloids.
>>77739960
So I take it you prefer A to B?
Dat 90's doe...
>>77740773
Which just happen to be almost exactly the Arkham and Nolan cowls, respectively.
>>77739064
Using his knees.
Not Bruce but still my favorite suit
>>77725107
im digging op's cowl it looks like a laughing gargoyle/devil, goofy but somewhat sinister like something a slasher villain like in Saw would wear
>>77743144
>>77743159
That looks like a cowl for Batduck.
>>77736147
>The one that actually looks scary.
>>77730758
ehh reminds me of nolan cowl
>>77740017
kek
>>77729991
I loved this issue when he finally decides to change from that old silver-bronze age blue suit to the dark gritty black one from the 90's.
I honestly think Jim Lee draws the best Batman. Like, it's almost absurdly perfect.
>>77746899
Like for me it's honestly this or Year One Batman as the perfect looks. Nothing else comes close.
My favorite is mike mignola's take on it.
>>77740017
>>77725107Owlman
>>77731331
>>77731389
I thin there is a good point here, there are different takes on Batman and there doesn't necessarily have to be one exact length
there are things that too large of a change, but sometimes the writing and art style go in a bit of a different direction for the sake of plot
like with azbats, i actually liked that he had such a different robotic costume, it was to complement his personality and the symbolic changing of the mantle
it was a bit over the top, but so was jean paul valley, he wasn't supposed to look exactly like batman because he wasn't truly batman, which is why bruce fighting him later on is more than just a fight between two men, it's a fight for the future of batman
i really liked the knightfall saga, i need to re-read it
>>77725107
YES
>>77725107
ALways loved Mazzucchelli's Year One cowl but my fave is Steve Rude's World's Finest Batcowl. Which "the fans" gave him a lot of shit for when the book came out, just because, being a classicist, he was referencing the Kane/Finger original.
Never was mad keen on The Joker but I think it was more the way Gibbons wrote him.
