Uhm, just really have a set of self-publishers and micro-publishers that I regularly check up on (like Nobrow, Koyama, Retrofit, Oily Comics, Sparkplug Books, Secret Acres, Youth In Decline, redink, stuff like that) and tcj.com, The Comics Reporter (good for spotlighting new up-and-coming weird cartoonists) and tumblr is good for self-publishers, too. Ryan Cecil Smith (who put out SF #3 through Koyama, the rest were self-pubb'd) makes these BEAUTIFUL little manga-influenced (not that he draws that way particularly) comics with a risograph, I really recommend his stuff, he's fab.

Also, Dark Horse binding is pretty weak. I had to use some 3M 969 to fix up a few of them. Highly recommend it as a nice fix if you run into that problem.

To be honest, not really unless you collect the pop heads, 30 bucks every 2 months isn't so bad, but I wish instead of just a single issues (Secret Wars #1 and Iron Man #1) would be way awesome. They also included a shirt, the SW one I didn't give a shit about and don't really wear, but the villains one was cool, had a mash up of a bunch of villains with their names beside them. The best stuff I've gotten out of the boxes are in pic related, I was super disappointed that I didn't get a Carnage pophead. Also, the boxes themselves are just big enough to store comics in which is pretty cool and they are constructed very well. All in all, if they have a theam that I'm intrested in I'll sign up like with lootcrate, but this month's GotG theam does nothing for me at all.

on one hand you have Joe Sinnott's inking, which is strong enough to carry the art and it looks gorgeous... a real masterclass on how to ink

Found it on the bottom of a shelf in a tiny LCS in a city I was briefly passing through, and it was only $15. It was the luckiest thing that's ever happened to me.

Best purchase? Hasta be Crickets #4 by Sammy Harkham, followed by Pope Hats #4 by Ethan Rilly, Zero Zero #'s 4, 6 and 26, Mickey Rat #1 by Robt. Armstrong and the latest L & R. Oh! shit, AND my beautifully sketched-in copies of Nowhere #2 by Debbie Drechsler and Hot Jazz by Hunt Emerson. Oh and Greys by Oliver Schwauren....shit, this list could go on for ages....finally got the Nexus God Con and Magnus Robot Fighter mini-series which I'd been meaning to get for years.....Snake Eyes 1 and 2 and Kaz's Buzzbomb. And Delphine by Richard Sala...and how could I forget Weirdo #12, ths completing my run. Oh and that reminds me, the Bob and Harv Comics American Splendor collection.
Also top, TOP marks for 1,3,4,5,7, 8 and 9. But my faves up there would be Watchmen, DKR, the Fourth World Omnibus (maybe get some dissent for this but it's my favourite Kirby Period, hands down, followed by Thor and Kamandi), the two Swamp Things and, of course, Understanding Comics, which as far as I'm concerned should be on every aficionado's shelf. Also the Dylan Horrocks article/argument about it from the (will go upstairs and find issue if anyone cares enough for me to scan it) print TCJ . It's not a COMPLETE rebuttal, but it's not in complete agreement, either.....

Alright I just won an auction for 2-6 of the Starman omnibuses finally completing my collection. I won them for 176. Considering each go for fifty (except the last three which are on instocktrades) i think it was a great deal seeing how three and two are oop

the box is very well done, sturdy and pretty big. I think it looks much better when you have it in front of you. I prefer having Sandman in 10 trades, and the trades are very beautiful and they have some extras.
Personally I think it's worth the money.
I bought it for christmas, so I'll have it in a closed box until the 25th of December.

I know a few people have mentioned it here before. Since it was so cheap and such a beautiful looking book, I was not going to leave it at the store. I was willing to pay $10 for it, but was able to work it down to $5 since I've been going there since I was 12, if not earlier.

So many comic shops, this is the one that lasted. I'm thankful for that.

Which printing of Cerebus is that? Anything before 16th printing is not the remaster. It's worth 7 dollars regardless, especially if you've never read it. Remaster is the exact same content but the pages are contrast corrected and some mechanical tones/lettering issues are fixed.

Oh, okay, sorry mate. Crickets is "pretentious hipster garbage". In terms of "slice-of-life" and convincing sense of place (the b-movie horror film industry in the early 1970's it's sense of verisimilitude is unparalleled.

But, yeah, Enemy Ace, those wee the times when DC were being a lot more adventurous with what they released....did Pratt study under the well-known, incredibly influential Barron Storey?! I should google that....I remember thinking at the time how unorthodox the book looked; painted comics were gaining a lot of ground (especially with DC) but, to me, it can slow down or impede the impact of the actual "sequential narrative"...sometimes, as if the artist is "showing off"? But Pratt had such a strong sense of storytelling, even if his panels were smeared or muddied or hadn't printed well you could ALWAYS tell what was going on. I need to e-read Enemy Ace agaIn SO badly! $10 for such a seminal work, that's a steal POFG!
