Laura becoming Wolverine doesn't really have anything to do with Secret Wars.

Wolverine lost his healing factor a few years ago then died last year. Then there was a weekly series called Wolverines that was basically about who would inherit the title, starring Mystique, Sabretooth, Daken, Laura and a bunch of OCs. By the end, Laura basically becomes the new Wolverine but doesn't adopt the name yet. During the 8 month timeskip after Secret Wars, she formally adopts it and becomes the new Wolverine and here we are.

Short version: Logan died. Laura took the name to honor his legacy.

Even if you discount Deadpool and Quicksilver, that's still 3 mutants.

i'm a little disappointed that we're not getting the flaring animal ears mask that early 90s wolverine was known for.

imho it'd look cute on her, and her proportions would be even more like her animal namesake. also, the jutting curved shapes should make it harder for enemies to get a precise headshot while she's in motion. -speaking of which, there better be some ablative plates around her head. come to think of it, it's honestly pretty dumb for a person without adamantium bones to wear bright blue and yellow. wolverine only did so because he knew he could draw enemy fire and intimidate -but then again, we have no idea how fast and strong x23 is.

Hopeless haven't wrote anything good. He managed to make a book about mosnters boring, Season One was just copypasting Lee and Kirby and filling plotholes with lame jokes, Inferno was based on a dumb plot and everyone like it for one shitty joke about Cable. Spider-Woman is a mindless copying of Hawkeye and Babsgirl style with some shit tackled in for controversy. I didn't read Cable & -Force but I honestly know people, die-hard X-men fans, who think it was WORSE than Arena on the ground of idiotic plot and character derailment.
And as for Arena nad Undercover. I gave them a try. It was before I've read anything of Runaways or Avengers Academy. I wanted to judge these books on their own, not as follow up to fan-favorite titles. After reading I came to the conclusion this shit is worse than anything Humphries did. Or anything bendis did. Or Ultimatum. Or even One More Day.
I have read Runaways and Avengers Academy ever since and loved both of them, but saying criticism towards Arena/undercover is jsut "butthurt Runaways/Academy fans" is just being a mindless idiot - because even jduged on their own these books are pure shit. Plot is fucking insult to human itelligence, villains pose like some cool and smart but actually make Willy E. Coyote look competent in comparision, every single character is absolutely unlikeable and does not act in any way like a believable human being, writer is clearly masturbating every time he kills a woman, there are two blatant self-inserts serving nothing but to fufill his Asian fetish and one awful mary sue. It reads on a level of a really bad "soo edgy" fanfic written by a 13-years old.
I've loved Star-Lord in DnA era and hate what Bendis and Humphries did to him. Still would not trade them for that idiot even if you paid me golden brick for every issue he writes.

If she has to be paired up, I actually kind of liked the idea of her and Rockslide. They started to have this weird friendship by the end of New X-Men that I thought was pretty funny. He wasn't scared of her like half the characters and he didn't get hung up on her sad past like the other half. He just thought she was cool and I liked that. Really unfortunate that they only had maybe 5-6 pages of interaction total. I remember when they teamed up to try to convince Anole to let her cut his arm off to see if it would grow back.

Honestly I just want more Rockslide in general. He turned into a megabro.
