I think he's about 20-30 years behind in terms of media. There was a period once society stopped hating gays or trying to pretend they didn't exist (or just using them for comic relief) when there were a lot of BAD END films/books about how society destroyed gay people and their relationships by being a bunch of bigoted/ignorant/violent/rapey cunts, with the moral of the story being "Maybe don't be cunts to gay people because they're people as well, m'kay?"

The thing Willis might be overlooking here is that a lot of those stories were based on true events or the actual experiences of gay people. I've got a feeling saying "bad stuff happening to gays in fiction is such a cliché" might backfire on him.

She makes a joke about being a lesbian, makes a giant grin, then says something 5o randum. Cutting her father out of her life might as well not have happened, it seemed to matter so little in the story.

What's weird is that Willis has handled dickhead parents better before. The whole thing in Shortpacked with Ambers Dad dying and her never getting the chance to show she was actually someone even after he treated her like dirt, robbing that final victory from her.

This was from just over three years ago by Willis. The resolution to a storyline that had been around since near enough the beginning of Shortpacked (around 8 years prior to this strip).

His resolution to both evil-dad stories in DoA has been to beat them up and either spit on them or flip them off.

He's not going crazy or SJW or whatever people are saying, he's really just becoming more and more bitter towards his past, and it is very akwardly apparent in his writing. I'm not seeing a girl overcoming her oppressive father, I'm seeing a fully grown man lash out at his parents through a comic because he can't bring himself to do it in real life. It's just uncomfortable to read.
