Tangled is probably one of the few times Disney were actually able to actually emote something without words in one of their CG films, so I gotta give them credit for that.
I'd also rate See The Light over Let It Go as an overall scene.
that's because tangled is a fun movie with a fun protagonist. frozen is bleh
also real talk, if you knew a girl like rapunzel, would you hang out with her? i think she'd be such a chill person to be around
>tfw they gave her shoes in Sofia the First
I will guarantee you Zootopia threads will be worse than Frozen.
It looks like Zootopia will be a better film, but furries being a forbidden subject on 4chan will make its threads horrible.
"I'm banned anyway for saying 'the bunny girl is cute', so might as well go out in a blaze of glory and post hard vore inflation cock unbirthing scat age regression hypnosis"
Here's a sketch that WDAS shared on their Tumblr today that was drawn by Byron Howard. One of the directors of the film who is also directing Zootopia
Tangled is much better than Frozen and ya'll know it.
would be a nightmare for tv budget cgi where all the characters' hair looks like molded clay to begin with.
They should have just went with her short brunette look but this is girl merchandise zone, they don't have to explain shit.
>tfw when you remember seeing it with your ex and now she's gone
I am sad.
I don't think we'll ever get a girly princess who loves pink and purple ever again.
according the original story, be hair was 70 feet long. don't know why i remember that, i just do.
but a question (maybe it was answered before but i can't remember); when her hair grows back, will/does it have the magica; properties like before?
The secret is getting someone who not only wants to make a traditional princess movie, but also someone who will tell tumblr to shut the fuck up and step aside. The loudmouth cunts aren't as many or as influential as they'd like to think, there will always be little girls who like pink and purple and want to be princesses.
Tangled surprised me by how good it was.
Frozen on the other hand was trash. I don't understand why that movie was so popular and successful.
They're trying too hard to make their animated female characters perfect. Elsa and Anna have smushed tiny faces, weird non-existent noses, and alien slanted eyes, with literally no flaws or expressiveness. Rapunzel had the right sized head, eyes that slope downwards, buck teeth, a noticeable nose, and they allowed her to have wrinkles and make goofy faces. By letting Punzie have flaws, they made her the cuter, superior CG waifu.
The more outrageous thing is that they gave her long blonde hair again.
Why does Disney refuse to have any short haired princesses? The only one I can think of is Mulan.
I still really like Frozen but the overwhelming amount of attention it gets from the general public kinda spoiled it from me. Though I do agree that Tangled is fucking phenomenal even if the songs aren't that catchy
She's does have nice eyes, I will admit. It's a cute movie, I liked it.
I don't understand how anyone can say Tangled was amazing while shitting on Frozen. I like Tangled, but it was still just another by the books Disney princess love story, it didn't really offer anything new or revolutionary. Not that Frozen did either, but it didn't feel as generic imo.
Though I will say Punzy is far superior to Anna and Elsa.
and Gothel was a better villain than Hans
tfw there arent any enough rapunzel rule34
>DISGUSTING DEGENERATE LOOKING FOR R34 OR BEST PRINCESS
>dat adorable overbite
It's her little imperfections that make her perfect.
shes the best when it come to bondage though.
but yeah there arent any enough rapunzel rule 34
instead we got tons of frozen rule 34
Didn't the animators say they had a hard time with Anna/Elsa because they were too focused on making them look as pretty as possible? Surprised they allowed Rapunzel to look silly and have physical flaws like an overbite and buckteeth.
/co/ was a different place then. It was still love. Rapunzel was pretty much considered unfappable due to cuteness. There wasn't any fetish/sexual talk in those threads.
The music/songs from Tangled are great, but you're right, they don't stick in your mind after one listen like other Disney songs. Course, I don't think Frozen's songs do that either.
Tangled felt more genuine to me. It FELT like they were aiming at recapturing what made Disney Princess Fairy Tale movies so wonderful, timeless and endearing.
It was only after that I learned WHY. Disney wanted to basically make Shrekpunzel out of it and after a couple awful first attempts, Glen Keane quit trying to make it a movie about subverting fairy tale tropes and make it a genuine heartfelt fairy tale movie.
I'm sure people get tired of hearing people talk up Glen Keane in these Tangled threads, but he really WAS the main reason we got what we got, and why we got the perfect Rapunzel we got.
Goddamn, just watching the part where Punzle thinks Eugene is dead and she's so expressive and emotive. There's fucking none of that in Frozen, they all look dead eyed. Even Elsa's grieving face was weirdly stiff.
Oh yeah. That was made in a time where short hair was the default look women were expected to have, though.
Does mother Gothel have the largest bust in Disney (besides technically Jessica Rabbit)?
one of the animators said that it's hard to animate female characters in an expressive or emotional way because the studio doesn't want the female characters to ever look ugly or strange. so while a male character can make a super ridiculous face or ugly cry or have a big crooked nose, female characters are supposed to look like adorable buttons all the time.
>because the studio doesn't want the female characters to ever look ugly or strange
>female characters are supposed to look like adorable buttons all the time
Huh, wonder why they weren't as uptight about this with Tangled.
Angry Rapunzel compared to Elsa's angry face, excusing the tiny tumblr gif, damn...
I wonder if part of it is because the image of the "Disney Princess" has gotten a lot more cutesy and sparkly over the past 3 years or so? More glitter, more bland, more "safe."
This is his quote, by the way. In context he is talking about how female characters are expected to stick to a certain model dictated by the studios.
>Historically speaking, animating female characters are really, really difficult, ’cause they have to go through these range of emotions, but they’re very, very — you have to keep them pretty and they’re very sensitive to — you can get them off a model very quickly. So, having a film with two hero female characters was really tough, and having them both in the scene and look very different if they’re echoing the same expression; that Elsa looking angry looks different from Anna (Kristen Bell) being angry.
Brenda Chapman had similar struggles with Brave--she wanted the characters to be more real, the mom to look like a realistic middle aged woman, Merida to make a lot of grimaces and unpleasant faces, etc, and they fought her all the way.
One difference I noticed from Frozen and Tangled is that Elsa and Anna are not allowed to like genuinely frown. They also have no nasolabial folds even in contexts where they should.
Compare that to this shit. Bitch doesn't even have a crease in her forehead and her mouth is more :| than :(
My husband animated on frozen, but from what I recall the leads were really really picky about characters being visually appealing in that movie (with the angle of the face, more than usual) and those folds kinda muck up the "pretty" face by casting the shadow. Not so much laziness, just people in charge having a certain mindset for what they wanted to see and enforcing it a little too much.
Oh, I'm sure it had nothing to do with laziness, I just think the animators went overboard in trying to make Elsa and Anna look as perfect as possible. By doing that, they made them look bizarre and stiff
and also less pretty than Rapunzel desu senpai. If they have to keep doing this big eyed sameface thing, then they could at least give them some flaws. They really had the formula perfected in Tangled.
Why would anyone argue with you?
I've seen both movies only once.
And the biggest difference is that I do plan to watch Tangled again eventually.
I will never, ever ever watch Frozen again.
Damn this movie was good. The sadness on her face, the soft cradling of his lifeless body, the broken sounding singing, her voice breaking at the end. Then they hold off on the magical healing just long enough for you to think, "they aren't REALLY going to leave him dead are they?"
What about Tangled Forever After?
Would have liked a song in it, but as a epilogue it isn't too bad.
You'd think Mother Gothel would want her to have kids so she could see if they'd be magic as well, then she could kill Rapunzel and just keep the new baby, allowing her to live forever instead of until Rapunzel dies.
mate that just says you don't care about it because of what it is, you just want progressiveness. That's a bad outlook, because people should be trying to find the best possible thing, yeah? Not what is most progressive or not norm.
Why didn't she just heal Flynn once Gothel let her go? Gothel is evil, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be that horrible to go back on her word and not stay forever imprisoned. Also, once he was healed, why did he cut her hair off instead of just killing Gothel, or escaping?
Imagine what could have been. Immortal King and Queen Flynn and Rapunzel, forever ruling in their kindness.
Posting superior Rapunzel.
If you don't agree, you're from /co/mblr.
>MFW this and Big Weaboo 6 are getting worlds in Kingdom Hearts 3 before worlds like Emperor's New Groove and Robin Hood that were awaited since the first game in 2002.
>MFW stuff like Atlantis The Lost Empire and Treasure Planet still have almost no chances of getting in.
Don't get me wrong I didn't hate Tangled (It was much better than lackluster "edgy"/"serious" stuff like Black Cauldron or Atlantis, as well as especially Pocahontas.), it's just it and most of the recent Disney films were nowhere near as good as the 90s renaissance movies and am pissed they're getting in before actually longer anticipated ones.
and Gothel was a better villain than Hans
Oh definitely. Gothel you can spend hours debating how much she actually loved Rapunzel and how much was manipulation. Hans is just irredeemably evil and non-complex
Also thought Tangled was much better than Frozen seeing it actually tried to be fun and wasn't melodramatic shit.
Too bad Frozen is also being shoved into KH3 and worse is that it's going to be a boring snow level that gets ridiculously hyped up..
She was still low-tier on the Disney Villain rankings right next to Governor Ratcliffe.
>MFW we could've gotten a deep focus on Rapunzel and Gothel's relationship and how it's tearing them apart a la Jim and Silver's relationship in Treasure Planet.
>Nope. She's just a generic evil sociopath.
Why are movie-goers such fucking idiots?
Well that's because she isn't a Princess really. I mean sure in title, but she wasn't raised as one and doesn't become one for real until the end of the film.
Just like how Belle is considered one of the best Princessses, she wasn't one until the end of the film.
I mean, no one is doubting the fact that Gothel was evil. She kidnapped a baby just so she could stay young, and when that was threatened she killed Eugene (and who knows if she killed anyone else that discovered the tower).
But Rapunzel didn't hate her, she loved her like the mother she thought she was, and she had what seemed to be a sort of happy childhood. Obviously it wasn't happy because she's locked in a fucking tower, but she isn't chained in a basement her entire life like she could have been.
John Silver was a pirate captain who possibly killed the guy who gave Jim the map, but over the time grew to bond with the fatherless and moody Jim and being torn between living up to his asshole crew (Especially that creepy spider/scorpion/crab fucker.) and helping Jim.
If anything, TP was more of a drama film that the idiot moviegoers failed to get.
This is probably the only CG Disney movie so far that I love. Not that CG = bad, more that Disney's output since Chicken Little hasn't really resonated with me except for this one. It's easily my favorite Princess movie, rewatched it a few weeks ago and it's still just as good today as it was when it came out.
I'm not going to lie, I'm real bitter that Frozen is the princess movie that became a runaway success and not this one. Though I suppose the silver lining there is that I'm not being beaten to death with Tangled merch EVERYWHERE. Fuck Frozen!!
I hope Zootopia is good I guess.
For the record I like Robinsons, Bolt, and Wreck it Ralph, I just wouldn't call any of them classics like I would Tangled. They're just okay.
Tangled really is the anomaly in their CG output I feel. I was hoping it would have kickstarted a new reinassaince. I suppose it did in terms of box office but definitely not in quality.
He wasn't healed before he cut her hair off.
He was bleeding out and had little strength, so istead of risking Rapunzel being kept captive (what if Gothel yanks Rapunzel away right after he was healed?) he used the last bit of his energy to save Rapunzel.
Tron is a different story as it was one of the first major movies to utilize computer animation and it has a strong cult following. Atlantis and Treasure Planet are more like the Black Cauldron in which Disney tried to move away from what the usually do and try to cater to the sci fi crowd but it always backfires since it's not sure who the main target audience is
Sometimes I feel the same, but I have to remind myself that Disney's name was mud as far as movie quality at that point. They'd come of like a 10 year string of bad to mediocre films and PatF, the movie that was supposed to be their big comeback had fallen rather flat at the Box office. No one, not even Disney was expecting Tangled to do much. It was ultimately released to try to recoup some of the losses from it's massive $260 million dollar budget.
Then it was a substantial success, despite the horrific trailers, and bad rep that Disney had. And before the year was out, Disney was scrambling to get Rapunzel into their Princess Line of merch.
Then Wreck-it Ralph was a success as well, and I like to think those two things contributed greatly to the success of Frozen.
Stop this, please. Rapunzel is perfect no matter what her hair looks like. She makes the hair perfect.
That looks disturbingly much like current day Boxxy.
Newfags pls go and stay go.
Also, post edits instead of stupid shipping.
>tfw day after anniversary and still can't find the Tangled blu-ray
Tangled really set the stage for the success that Frozen garnered. The CG engine they've used was basically bankrolled by Tangled's superinflated budget and let Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen get away with a much smaller budget because the engine was already in place, they just refined it.
Short hair just changes the way her face looks so much and I spent the entire movie falling in love with the way she looked then, the dramatic change at the end just gave me whiplash.
I'm not saying it's bad, she's rather cute, but she looks so different with short hair.
It doesn't really change her face, though. It looks different because different color/length hair, just hold your hands over the side of her hair in this pic and you'll see what I mean.
Glen Keane pushed for this cartoon to be cartoony
He was determined to make a mark on the CG animation industry, which is why faces squish and grow and what not
Looking at movies post-Tangled, he definitely succeeded
Tron gained a status as a cult movie in the scifi genre and the people remember it before legacy, makes sense, and Tron wasn't a flop what caused the closing of a lot of 2d animation studios like treasure planet or atlantis.
The problem with Atlantis, Treasure Planet is how they tried to make something different but at the same time they don't want to leave his zone, both movies have a very good presentation and first act but all become a mess after the middle of the movie.
>Also, post edits instead of stupid shipping.
Does it even count as shipping if it entirely consists of two characters who got together in the franchise's only outing? Like, people like Lilly and Marshell, but no-one actually ships it
It doesn't hurt that they cast virtually live action Rapunzel for the part either.
No, I mean they only gave her short hair then because it was the norm at the time. Had it been made today, she'd probably have long hair too because Disney is biased. I just want more cute short haired princesses.
You should watch The Animators Surivival Guide (or kit, whichever). It's a teaching guide for animation students. The lead animator who did all kinds of work for disney and shit mentioned that women walk the way they do because they are protecting their vaginas. Men however, let their dicks hang freely, hence our wider gait.
Shit was hilarious.
Rapunzel's haircut symbolizes freedom and not being used anymore though, keeping it long just reinforces all the bullshit she had to put up with. It's not as drastic a physical change as Beast either.
>How dare Ariel still be a mermaid most of the time.
She has legs in most official art and merchandise, it's the only way they can stick her in dresses.
>Happens between Tangled and Tangled Ever After
Wonder how she'll get her long hair back
>forcefully given a haircut by someone else
Going from one person making decisions for you to another isn't exactly freedom.
Plus by your logic the same could be said for Beast.
Magic hair> literally any other hair
Come to think of it the real victim of the whole movie is the flower/ magic.
I'm a flower, just chilling on a hill. Some lady comes by and protects me for hundreds of years. The some guard decide to dig me up. Rather than care for me and use my magic they decide to murder me to save the queen.
Now I'm some chick's hair. Cared for by the same lady. Then murdered again by some guy.
Can't unless they retcon ever after or she cuts it off again and it turns brown again. She had short hair in Ever After.
and that's why she's best girl.
This is similar to the reason on why Heather from Silent Hill 3 is so cute. Her imperfections make her seem more real, and these flaws make you love her even more.
Those puffy cheeks, man. The full mouth, the upturned nose, everything about Rapunzel's design just worked. I don't get why they decided to make Elsanna's noses as tiny as possible and super low down on their faces. Combine that with the slanted eyes and tiny lips, and they look like freaks.
>I don't get why they decided to make Elsanna's noses as tiny as possible and super low down on their faces.
They were originally going to have a more stylized design. You can see if on a lot of the older Frozen merch.
>best friends super qt 3.14 ex-gf has the real world equivalent of Rapunzel's face
>qt 3.14 ex-gf and me still communicate frequently
>must observe bro code and never pursue
Being a good guy is suffering.
What is really surprising she has got tons of butt stuff by different artists. Like it is some world wide agreement she likes it in the butt. I'm not complaining because
I won't lie looks matter, but I always more interested in personalities when it comes to
animatedgirls. Rapunzel and Anna are crazy cuties thus my greatest weaknesses. This is why long and short hair both are fine with me, Rapunzel is the same.
Men who prefer blondes really need to kill themselves for the mess they've made of society.
>mfw 90% of the Western female population are all generic looking blondes thanks to you fuckos
Ugh, no Tits. Can't fap to this
at least Elsa & Anna got Tits and it jiggles
>not liking DFC
>implying Punzy's physical flaws don't make her the superior CGIfu
Punzy's sexiness is in not in chest, it's in her bunzies.
She's for protecting, you monster.
I like to think when Rapunzel learned what sex was and got busy with Eugene that she'd really love it and want to have sex a lot. I like to think when they were stuck in frozen Arendelle that they fucked like rabbits, trying to keep warm.
I bet she's into pegging
To be honest, I'd just be happy to hug her and hang out with her playing video games.
>Idina Menzel screaming
>that fucking rock troll song
>every song in the movie combined even trying to hold a candle to an Alan Menken soundtrack
>The lantern Rapunzel stops from hitting the water is the same one her parents released
>let thousands of peasants die of childbirth every year
>"OH NO! THE QUEEN MIGHT DIE LIKE THE REST OF US! BETTER MOBILIZE THE ENTIRE FUCKING COUNTRY TO FIND A ONE TIME CURE THAT CAN NEVER BE USED AGAIN!
The concept of royalty is fucked up.
Yeah it's pretty ridiculous that we're expected to side with the king and queen on that. Gothel turned out to be evil so it's cool to kill her and steal her stuff but she had the most legitimate claim to that flower of anyone.
Yeah, all she did was keep Pascals best friend/owner trapped in a tower her entire life and then stab the guy trying to save her.
Claim to the flower doesn't really mean she's justified in kidnapping a baby.
>Yeah, all she did was keep Pascals best friend/owner trapped in a tower her entire life and then stab the guy trying to save her.
You are missing the point.
A) Trying to murder her after Rapunzel's hair was cut was unnecessary.
B) It's a fucking Disney movie. They don't want to teach murder is okay.
C) IT WAS THE FUCKING CUTE ANIMAL SIDEKICK THAT MURDERED SOMEONE!
To be fair, she was dead the moment the hair was cut. It seemed to undo all the anti-aging effects of the magic.
Although that does raise the question of why the Queens didn't die as soon as the hair was cut as well.
But there was no good reason or enough time to just up and assume she was going to just evaporate and there was no reason to put the effort in to tripping her out of a fucking window. Oh, AND THE CUTE ANIMAL SIDE KICK IS THE ONE WHO DID IT. BUT HAHA, IT WAS A CUTE ANIMAL DOING THE MURDERING SO IT'S ALRIGHT! NO BLOOD ON THE HANDS OF THE ACTUAL HUMAN CHARACTERS! CRUISE CONTROL!
>mfw people are still reblogging my Frozen art buy not my Tangled art.
How did I ever convince myself I liked Frozen?
If Glen gets his own studio up and running like he wants to, I hope he'll do a project with his daughter. Punz was already based in part on Claire Keane, and them codirecting something would be great.
Muh Punzel is 5 years old!!
Aged to cutness perfection!
HAPPY B-DAY PUNZLE
Thats going to be a lot of hair to animate
A true princess would never act like modern day common whore even if she were married.
Because go forbid they could ever be gf and bf
Post some of your Tangled art here if its sexy cute, and playful.
If it is it looks gay. Just another Wreck-It Ralph "big guy" / little girl father daughter metaphor flick
>High budget CG Fairy Tale (Just like Tangled and Frozen)
>Change the name slightly to make it a bit more appealing to boys (Tangled and Frozen)
>Musical (Tangled and Frozen)
It's gonna make a buttload of money.
>Tangled and Frozen
You mean Rapunzel and The Snow Queen or should I say The totally not the bad guy misunderstood friendly Snow Queen.
To be fair, the trope you're using is literally flipped in this case, as well as being a musical, something WIR isn't. With the "Not a fairy tale" name just like Tangled and Frozen, you can tell this is Disney's new big thing.
Three-to-five years after this will be another CG Adaptation of some story dating Pre-1900, possibly a Brothers Grimm story that has a more generic name to allow mass-appeal.
>Glen will never be your father and you will never be his daughter
Rapunzel feels so convincing and real, it's probably Glen Keane magic because Ariel is the same.
Watch The Little Mermaid and then watch Beauty and the Beast right after, Belle is a fucking bore. The way she moves is so stifled and cliche.
Those days are long gone. A fairy tale with something that implies girls in it can't be used because that means boys won't want to see it.
At least I think that's one of the main reasons Disney does it. They believe it was why Tangled was so much more successful than Princess and The Frog at least.
>To be fair, the trope you're using is literally flipped in this case,
Oh so it'll be a Big misunderstood and feared (by the town people who live below) gentle giant girl and small fatherly figure.
Your right it's going to be totally different.
>Little Mermaid brings Disney Animation back into the limelight after years of being upstaged by Don Bluth
>They follow a few years later with one of the most well received Animated movies of all time in Beauty and the Beast
>Tangled brings Disney Animation back into the limelight after years of being upstaged by Pixar
>They follow a few years later with one of the most well received Animated movies of all time in Frozen
In like a decade Tangled will be looked back on as the start of the CG Disney Renaissance.
Well last one ended when Disney randomly decided to ditch their movies being musicals, along with Pixar and Dreamworks running away with the rise of CG Animation.
The current revival has had two musicals set in more "fairy tale times" in Tangled and Frozen along with two more futuristic films with Wreck-It Ralph and Big Hero 6 following them.
So my theory is that they'll be a 2D film from somewhere that comes out of left-field and brings interest in that style right back into the spotlight.
>>Glen will never be your father
don't remind me
>A western cartoon character made to look like a Japanese anime character .
Why do people do this...
While it wasn't doing anything new, Tangled had a shit ton of heart and really likeable characters. Every story has been done before, anon, it's the quality of the production that makes it good or bad. You can make a genre film that hits all the same beats as any other movie in it, but if the writing is good and the people making it care about it more than just making a buck, it'll still be a good movie.
Yes but at the end of the day the origin of anime characters with large eyes is based on old black and white western cartoons who USED TO have large eyes like Betty Boop which Japanese animators have stated many times was the inspiration for the anime characters with large eyes. So at the end of the day whos copying who.
They should make a tv show based on her lonely High School days. Only characters on the show would be her , Gothel , her pet and her imaginary friends.
eyes still too big
this is all i can do right now, MS Paint on laptop.
i think its mostly the big eyes AND the wide head. its really obvious here>>77739390
she reminded me of the diva starz
