Anyone still have their recordable VHSes laying around? Found some of mine earlier tonight so I figured I'd rip them for kicks.
But then you're writing over something else on a tape that's much shorter.
Had the SB Lost Episode earlier with some bumpers, kinda neat.
Now we're on an episode of the Proud Family. Kept the commercials intact, thankfully!
Also from earlier, the OP image was during what I assume was a Valentine's block called Love Struck that marathon'd the romance-centered episodes of FoP.
I was given a recording of Sleeping Beauty from a Colombian family friend one year. The ending of the tape freaked me out because it played a second of what the movie taped over.
It was a flash of kids running to a lady laying down, back towards the camera.
Apparently they gave out 500 t-shirts during the SB Lost Episode premiere, wonder how many are still out there.
Don't have any since I moved. Used to have tons of Power Rangers up to In Space, tons of Disney Afternoon with a lot of nostalgic commercials and a bunch of KidsWB. If I knew shit would change so much while growing up I would have made more and kept them. Still had a good 30 full 6 hour tapes.
Behind the scenes feature for a Disney Channel movie called "Double Teamed". It's about 2 minutes long.
Yeah, they used to plug their own shit a lot until the mid-00s when they stopped being a "premium" channel.
As for the bread, I regret throwing out my home recorded Simpsons tapes many years ago. There has to be a certain sense of nostalgia watching old ads and bumps of my local UPN station.
I have tons of VHSes. Unfortunately, I have no software to record them and the only working VCR we have is an old VCR/DVD player combo with the DVD player part broken. There's old premiere episodes of the first season of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The oldest VHS we have is from before I was born. It's from 1985. My parents used to work together at AT&T and would record the evening news and my mom would record her afternoon soap operas and they'd watch them when they got home during the night. It was funny to watch a soap opera from 1985 and see all the old fashions and see the evening news.
They sure did/do. There's already a That's So Raven behind the scenes feature too.
Man, these promos make me miss this branding that Disney used to have.
>Back then "Quick stop the recording, it's a commercial!"
>Now "Damn, I wish it had the commercials"
My mom recorded a shitton of stuff from over 20 years ago. I want to dig through them and record all of the bumpers and commercials. I can probably find the feature presentation in better quality somewhere online.
I know how you feel, I know some of these tapes have the commercials cut (some Foster's episodes definitely do, shame because I'm anxious to find CN stuff the most)
Also, have you all discovered the magic of reading lately?
I don't have an account there. I plan on cutting the promos out for YouTube sometime within the next few days.
And wow, totally forgot about this show.
I have a recording of the Ducktales Movie mostly intact (It starts where they find the pyramid) somewhere around the house, also an episode of Quack Pack.
I can't remember when I recorded it, probably around 1998-1999
Got it, much appreciated!
Anyone got any Cool Pets they wanna show off?
i did this bruh. i ddint think anyone else knew about this.
one time my neighbor had tossed an entire box of vhs tapes. im talking like 40 tapes around 1999, i took all of them and reused them.
i wish i could find them now. i cant imagine what the commercials look like. i think i stopped recording during the commercials because i didnt want to waste recording tape.
I remember way back in elementary i would try to record all the episodes of Case Closed and Fosters that would come on TV.
One day i just stopped though. My parents for some reason started making me go to bed earlier so i couldnt record the case closed episodes anymore since that came on so late.
Which sucked too because the episode i was recording at the time was a two parter. I think it was like everyone was invited to a dinner party at some mansion and theres a killer killing them all one at a time. Last i remember they found some lady that was hacked to pieces in some kinda forest in the woods outside the mansion
I didnt know how things worked as a kid. I mean i'm just now finding out you can do what >>77656821 said.
Also i was the only one in the household who recorded stuff on the VHS so nobody else was there to tell me that
Yeah. You could just leave a tape in the vcr, make a setting to have it start and stop recording at a certain time, and it would just automatically turn on and do it. That's what everyone would do before dvr became a thing.
Glad someone else is into these Broadcast Recordings with commercials intact like I am. I mentioned it on here before and no one cared (I have a few tapes but nothing to record them with. Toon Disney and something else, maybe ABC Family?)
Can you put these on kickass torrents or something? I'd like to see the whole thing, not just the commercials you put on youtube.
Right off the bat we've got the Cartoon Theater intro and the beginning of House of Bloo's!
I'll figure something out.
The City era was fantastic, that and the 2010-2012 branding are my favorites.
I used to wake up at 6 am in the morning and pop in the VHS to record Saturday morning cartoons while I go off to Chinese school until noon. Soul Train usually comes on after the toons. I would rerecord over that same VHS over and over.
I remember it used to be hard to pick between Kids WB some ABC/Disney and Fox, but eventually I settled on Kids WB because it had Jackie Chan, Yu gi Oh, Pokemon etc. Where as I only remember being interested in One Piece and Winx on Fox Box.
Sometimes I would wake up at 5 am to catch the tail end of Adult Swim, for some reason they had Yu Yu Hakusho new episodes then. After that I ended I would watch Bob Ross or some chinese calligraphy art dude until the cartoons popped up.
I knew this shit. Sometimes I'd accidentally rip that little plastic square out to preserve the tape for a short while, but then forget to tape it back up to record shit. I got mad because I lost the footage from that Saturday.
Alright, so there was a Fridays promo that showed the premiere of Frankie My Dear. According to Wikipedia this means the tape is currently at March 18, 2005.
Cartoon Cartoon Fridays.
Weren't there also some nights dedicate to the Chuck Jones show before adult swim?
I never bothered to record because I was always the little shit who sat in front the telly 8 hours a day since that was my babysitter.
It's similar, but they used to be a lot more colorful with a bunch of different 3D scenes they'd alternate through.
I don't know what kind of crowd they were trying to drawn in back when Hannah Montana and Phineas and Ferb, but demographic and programming didn't feel very diverse.
Post Hannah Montana was every channel try
Back in the Mid 2000s, it felt like they had a lot more to offer. I think You had shit like Lizzie McGuire, Even Stevens, That's So Raven, Proud Family, Kim Possible, Lilo and Stitch. If anything I think they made a lot of made for tv movie material.
Its a little better now with Star Forces, Gravity Falls and Wonder over Yonder. I dunno about the Live action stuff since I don't follow anymore but it all looks the same. Is there some kind of talking dog show that blogs or something that everybody used to make fun of how that is the lowest point a tv sitcom can go but its actually real now?
>Post Hannah Montana every channel
tried to imitate that success I think, so that combined with some other factors, I like labor costs of animation?, there was a general trend of more live action than cartoon programming for a little while.
But I digress, man VHS, I have a ton of cartoon movies like Land Before Time and stuff, but its all worthless in terms of quality now, huh?
I have a recording of Fox Box's Shaman King Shocktober that included a rare episode of F-zero GP Legend.
Miguzi promo, man I miss watching Code Lyoko on that.
Immediately after the Foster's movie credits, the tape cuts to Nicktoons! I remember I'd use their VCR when I was housesit because we didn't get the channel. Dang this is a good tape.
Holy crap what happened there. Meant to say "I remember I'd use my neighbor's VCR when I was housesitting for them because we didn't get the channel"
>grandma only had local channels
>would record PBS, Fox Kids, Kids WB and One Saturday Morning for me
>have VHS's of really early 90s local cartoon blocks
>hundreds of tapes
>she died a month ago
>room is filled with VHS tapes
>all labeled for me
>never recorded anything on VHS except family christmases
At least I'll always have Snow Dogs on VHS to preserve the exact moment in history when Cuba Gooding Jr.'s career crashed and burned in Alaska.
Yeah this dude. He was like his fairy godfather or something.
According to LostMediaWiki, 2 of the 6 episodes of this Schoolyard Safari series are missing. This one is one of the 4 found ones, maybe we'll run into a lost one later though!
At my parents' house is an old VHS with The Love Bug recorded off the Disney Channel circa 1995. I've always had the Disney Channel jingle from that time stuck in my head because of it.
HOT DAYS COOL NIGHTS DISNEY CHANNEL MAKING IT RIGHT.
Whoops, tape suddenly cut back to CN for the Frankie My Dear premiere. Guess we'll see if it cuts back to Nicktoons tomorrow morning.
Heading to bed, letting the rest of the tape record since it's a 6 hour one.
awesome man, your contributing to the nostalgic factor of 4chan, which includes a couple people right now.
I've always wanted to find/buy a tape recording of a cartoon channel broadcast, glad you've got so much going on in just one tape.
Hope you figure out how to upload the whole thing somewhere, maybe send it to those who want it. I like watching actual older broadcasts because in my mind I can imagine where I was and what I was doing when it aired.
I had a friend that let me borrow a vhs of random recordings when we were in middle school, it was mostly movies like Spirited Away and Beetle juice, Home Movies and music videos. It was like a vhs mix tape,
I got the old toonami finale where they aired a bunch of music videos and interstella66. Also had one on the old wb from the 90s with g2 transformers and mr bumpy, wish I could find the last one.
>mom threw out all my VHS tapes when we had to move
>lost all my Disney movies, recordings, and Star Wars trilogy
Ten years later and I'm still salty.
Morning all! Just now going through the recording I left running, so far I see Summer Fridays promos which I think are fairly rare.
Tape cuts to about 45 minutes of KCA 2003 after that
I still have every home recording of Pokemon seasons 1 through 5. I absolutely shit you not, I hand recorded those motherfuckers every Saturday morning, pushing the pause and record buttons between commercials and even letting the tape run to get some Batman Beyond or Static Shock. I was dedicated and fanatical about getting up early enough to do it consistently
If that's true, I think you've got some wanted stuff. People have been looking for the original airings of the episodes that contain Todd/Snap, since the dub was slightly different (his name was originally Todd, changed later to Snap)
Off to the next tape. After some bits of Simpsons on a scrambled Fox network, we jump right into some more Nicktoons during the "Nicktoons Meltdown" block. Tape's not in fantastic condition, but for its age it's holding strong.
it was the 101 Dalmatians series, and the other channel had Zaboomafo but the audio was pretty muffled for some reason.
I don't know what channel Zamboomafo was on, Discovery Kids I think. Good times, might watch the tape later.
If I can find some way of uploading, I might. I'm mainly interested in OPs stuff though, CN good era, Nicktoons, amazing Disney stuff, these are the things I've always wanted to see old broadcast recordings of, here's hoping we get the full version and not just some ripped bumpers.
I've hit like 4 Rocko episodes in a row (with commercials cut out unfortunately), including everyone's favorite Wacky Delly
2.0 was a weird in-between phase, I only include it because it used a lot of 1.0's elements as well. 3.0 was nice and simple, then 4.0 kinda shat the bed.
Currently on Angry Beavers, just had a full break which included one of the Crimson Chin + Cleft shorts (been looking for those for ages) and a "Foul Facts" short about Nails (might not be online anywhere?)
I really hope this was one of the times where I just left it recording while I went out.
I used to have like a hundred VHS's with stuff taped off the TV. I got rid of most of them and kept a select few for old times sake. I sometimes break them and out and go on a trip down memory lane.
>I figured I'd rip them for kicks.
Is there a way to do this without just pointing a camera at the TV? There is plenty of Softcore TV Porn I'd like to have on my computer.
I have composite out coming from the VCR going into an HDMI upscaler which is fed into an Intensity Pro. Everything's getting recorded with OBS.
There's simpler ways to do it, you could use something like an Elgato GameCapture which is USB-based.
Shoot, there's 2 of these missing and of course the one I find is already uploaded. This tape's just over halfway done (about 2.5 hours left?), really hoping something lost shows up.
You could just use a dual VCR/DVD with recording capabilities.
Oof, forgot all about this. I think it's the same company that made Leader Dog.
Speaking of which.
It was Nobody's Drool, one already online.
I wonder: is there anyone here born in a later time, let's say 1997 (le wrong generation) whose parents recorded Kids WB, Fox Kids, Toonami, pre-2006 CN, etc. so they could watch them whenever they felt like it, even in the late 00s when things were turning shit?
I wanna see that VHS recording promos.
>I dunno about the Live action stuff since I don't follow anymore but it all looks the same.
You're exactly right, I watch that shit with my niece when I babysit her and it's all the same.
>Famous family member
>At least one blonde girl
>Some sort of magical/extraordinary power
Hell, even their more normal family shows have some kind of wAcKy feature. Liv and Maddie is a good example, one of the twins is a famous singer.
I don't think we'll ever have 100% accurate depictions of things that lived and died millions of years ago unless we develop advanced cloning technology or time travel.
The original airing of Krabby Land and The Camping Episode. Feels weird to think of the legacy these first few seasons would leave, and how everything would go downhill in a couple episodes :(
This is the first I've heard of this. I remember seeing a Johto episode where he came back and his name was still Todd. It could just be that he had a different name in the Japanese version.
Definitely post that Crimson Chin short somewhere when you get a chance. I don't think many of those are online anywhere. (At least not on Youtube. There's only one there and the quality on it isn't that good.)
Technically, there's five of them missing since three of them were only found in Russian. Cancer isn't one of them unfortunately. If you come across Libra, Virgo, Sagittarius, Leo, or Pisces, then make sure to capture it.
Lot of late 90's - early 2000's Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network stuff, TONS of Toonami broadcasts, a few older things here and there. There's some cool rare shit like the DuckTales premiere, the original English dub of Dragon Ball from the 80's, probably original broadcasts of other things as well. It's a lot to sift through but there's plenty of neat stuff to be found.
I've got half of a full-sized tape left, then a few mini-DV cassettes (I used the VHS adapter to record directly onto them) labeled "Foster's", so once those are all capped I'll start putting the promos on YouTube based on network. So far I'm up to 7 1/2 minutes of CN stuff from 2003-2005, most of it Foster's with a couple Fridays promos and some Summer Fridays stuff.
Just finished the 2004 KCA and now we're into some Danny Phantom.
I'd fucking be stoked to stay here and check out the updates, been here since last night.. but I got to catch a gravity falls finale part 1 episode.
Guarantee the thread will still be up when I return at 8:30?
Tape ended early, so we're moving onto the mini-DVs!
Don't worry anon, the thread survived overnight, I think it'll hold. I'll be watching GF too. :)
Not looking like we're gonna get many promos at all out of this tape. I did a good job of cutting the commercials. Stupid me.
I'm sure I've got all kinds of stuff in my parents' basement. I'm pretty sure I have a block of cartoons that was specifically recorded over because I had accidentally recorded Skinemax as a dumb ten-year-old.
Oh, I used to be obsessed with the International Channel. I probably have a ridiculous amount of raw Japanese DBZ. Also the original Tenchi OVAs; I actually have both the Toonami version with the digital bikinis on an official VHS and the version that aired on International Channel with all the boobies intact.
Second tape had home videos, so I'm not gonna risk screwing that up since I had to break into the cassette adapter after the eject battery died.
Onto the third and (for now) final mini-DV. I'm somewhat certain there's at least one more tape laying around somewhere, but I can't find it at the moment.
Yes, just going through the last tape to make sure there's nothing else to add. Expect it to be up within an hour or two.
When I was 8, my neighbor gave me a tape recorder. I held it up to my TV speaker and recorded the audio of Cartoon Network back in 2005. One was from October because I heard a promo for Kicking and Screaming.
Years later, I recorded over some of the audio unintentionally and today I feel like a dumbass for doing so. Still have majority of the recordings though.
Hold the phone, folks! We've got another tape on our hands, with some good quality Nicktoons stuff so far!
I'm going to go ahead and upload the CN stuff I've compiled so far since people are waiting. Gimme a bit to upload it, and if I find anything else I'll either replace the video or just add a part two.
Going through some Corneil & Bernie right now, so far the commercials are intact which is great. Couple of idents and another Tortellini Western short so far on this tape.
>something like Fridays or Miguzi or Toonami will never exist again because CN ends too early for these blocks to thrive
>CN City is gone
>the schedule will never have a good variety of toons under the new CEO's control (even in early 2014 the schedule was pretty good, and Johnny Test never got as bad as TTG was in September)
Some breaks had them intact, I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to get those uploaded though. I'll probably end up using an alt account. That'll be something I do once everything I have is ripped.
AND LOOK WHO'S BACK
Anyone have any CN VHS from late 2006, preferrably Christmastime?
I've heard people say that's when they began going downhill in "real time", where every day was literally worse than the last, though not as bad as when Stuart Snyder took over in 2007.
I had a good deal of digital 2006-2008 recordings until the external I stored them all on died. I still have the drive and may look into getting it recovered sometime down the road if it's worth the money. :\
Oh geez, it's the butchered version of the Animaniacs intro Nick put out. I guess it's a quality boost from what's out there, still cringeworthy as ever.
Please do it. What's your email and/or YouTube account (so people can bug you if you never do it)?
Also, anyone know how to open torrents once you've downloaded them? Call me a retard but I'm new to this kind of thing.
>That Pinky and the Brain intro where the Nick logo was plastered onto every single object possible
Why did they do this in the first place? Did they just want to make sure you knew what channel you were watching that badly?
There was a Chuck Jones Show as well.
It was something along the lines of them not wanting to promote the WB logo, so they decided to go the extra mile and litter the intros with their logo.
Anyways, status update. Nicktoons tape is finished, and I've been able to make a submission to the Lost Media Wiki! The tape had the lost English dub of the Sagittarius short of Astrology with Squidward. It's been sent, so hopefully they'll see it in the morning.
Found one more tape, this one's Disney so far. We'll see where this one takes us.
Some of the stuff might be from around that time, that particular branding stuck around for a few years into '06. I only recorded Kim Possible back then for the most part, so you won't see much consecutive airtime at all.
Also holy crap, I remember this card collecting game. They let you print out all of them if you had a complete collection, and I was only missing DNAmy the night it expired. :(
According to the Wiki it stopped in January 2007. After that, they switched to the new look with ribbons and more low-key music.
A good way of finding out where your tapes are from is looking on Wikipedia to see what new episodes of a show aired that week that were mentioned in commercials.
Off-topic but I've always loved this art style in animation.
What is it called? Is it art deco? Is it "angular" art? From what I know, it was most popular in the 50s-60s, but had a resurgence in the 90s-early 2000s.
Looks like late 2003 actually. The KP card game was going on then, I remember playing it during the premiere of The Golden Years episode (September '03), so sometime around there.
Whoops, didn't see you mention later as well. All of my Disney stuff appears to be from the same few weeks, I see promos for episodes that premiered in other recordings I did.
Disney tape appears to have ended after about 55 minutes. I'll probably call it a night and browse the rest of the tapes I have laying around tomorrow. If I don't find any more I'll go ahead and start cutting the promos/bumpers.
Please recover the external drive somehow, it's worth it IMO.
How much does it cost? Does it require a summer job? Could you set up a donation drive maybe? I know it'll sound selfish but like I said, I really want to see CN die in real-time. It's interesting, like the fall of the Holy Roman Empire.
Physically failed drive recovery usually runs around $1,500
Similar to the tapes, I usually only recorded when certain shows were on, so you wouldn't have stuff like full days of recordings. Nowadays I record full days once or twice a week since I have a 10TB RAID setup.
That article says no one in America would have been a fan of the anime when that sneak peak aired. But I had moved to Honolulu in June of that year, and every god damn kid knew about Pokemon already. My first day of school that August kids were showing off Japanese Pokemon cards.
I'll bet you more than a few kids in Hawaii made sure to record that broadcast.
>found my old vhs and tape
>hooked it up and watched
>It's 2-3 hrs of fetishes from 9-10 different shows
God my 15-year old self was desperate and retarded enough to jack off to this and not use AOL to find normal porn like a civilized human being.
all you need to do is cover the hole with a piece of tape.
I recently found a few recordings--I have one video with a bunch of family guy sketches I found funny, as well as one with some old recorded episodes of gundam SEED, inuyasha, and witch hunter robin.
I used to have the first inuyasha movie recorded, but I crushed the cassette in a move.
A while back I found a recording of BEYBLADE and there was some Recess too I think
Pretty fascinating to go back and look at
You know I have record many Teenage Robot episodes on VHS.
sometimes I see 60fps stuff. Mostly video game ads, but some shows have done it, too.
S1 of The Eric Andre Show (which was made to look like a low budget public access show) used cameras from the 70s and left them in 60fps
You know I really want to see a hd bumpers of the powerhouse cartoon network ads.
So that the picture would be nice and clean and even on Johnny Bravo's face.
