We just had one. You're breaking the concord.
It's probably out there. It has a Japanese fanbase.
no clue where this is going but i like it so far.
>you'll never have a pale shortstack redhead therapist who wears striped stockings and a form-fitting black gown
Life is Hell, isn't it?
But it's supposed to be that way.
Look on the bright side...
No one else can have your waifu either?
that's the spirit anon! Just look on the bright side like Ruby.
no one can ever take your waifu
If we're thinking of the same threads, the last one was essentially a fetish thread with Ruby Gloom wallpaper.
Those are classic, thread that start exactly like that one are from an old age of /co/. Not really sure how it was decided that Ruby would be the one, but it stuck even after threads about the show itself became rare.
Havin quite a few of these threads recently. New fans are fun, but usually it's just the same peeps.
That's why instead of having threads constantly to chill we made a skype group.
Open that link with skype to join. Everyone is welcome, come and chill with us gloom-friends and drawfags.
Also what is your favorite episode, which episode did you start the series with? I started with Misery Loves Company and it's still one of my favorites, if not my favorite. Anything episode focused on Misery is great.
I started with I'll be home for Misery. Odd start considering it's one of the last episodes, but I was originally just watching because I saw Misery and wanted more of that character.
Boy did I get more of that character.
Misery loves reading about how a bunch of fat sweaty nerds want to wife her.
"Misery spends most of the time in a state of detached apathy and with ever-present trails of tears running from her eyes. She does have tiny moments of happiness throughout the series, but unless they're few and far between, her bad luck rears its ugly head and strikes her down with a vengeance, usually in the form of lightning bolts."
Why does a character so depressing exist?
Here's my large collection of SFW Ruby Gloom fan-art, for all to enjoy. About 700mb. https://mega.nz/#!kYIjVZgR!9qw1Z7hao2mLdppk2PX0aX3NFKrkAmIrOOHKdZZK_Jg
Thanks for this btw! I downloaded it in the last thread and I didn't say thanks for it.
You're a saint, man.
Ruby Gloom was originally broadcast on YTV, and Sugar Lyn Beard really wanted to be the VA. Although she didn't get the job she cosplayed Ruby Gloom for a week one Halloween season. It was like all your pervy fantasies come to life.
It is actually funny. Some episodes are hit or miss but the humor is pretty good. It's also just a really feel-good kind of cartoon.
And I guess it's all on YouTube because no one really cares if it's all on youtube or not.
I think this guy >>77677252 gives a pretty good simple description. I happen to really like the girls in the show but that came after simply enjoying how warm and comfy it was, along with Misery's hilarity. (Though Iris has her moments too.) Skullboy gets a bit formulaic quickly but he isn't bad.
Frank & Len are also very funny to me.
There's actually no official age for any of the characters, despite that wiki. It's really strange and also kind of annoying. Here's someone asking the creator of Ruby Gloom what her age is.
In official merch and promotional material, she has boobs.
I mean it's strange and annoying the wiki says she's 6.
Why is it strange and annoying? Just pay it no mind.
I recall someone who worked for the show (a storyboarder or something like that) said Ruby and her friends were supposed to be in their 20's
which would explain them living by themselves and being able to substain the house, all the expenses, etc.but the creator is always the best source for this kind of answers.
And he implies she can be as old as you wish her to be.
Because of the people who take that wiki as gospel complaining about Ruby Gloom NSFW. The wiki is easy to find and lots of people take it at face value. It's pretty annoying when misinformed people are so righteous and they wave that wiki around like it's actually true.
Oh well, that kind of people are always there trying to ruin things for others.
I personally consider Ruby to be ageless, like some sort of doll.
Indeed... But I wish they didn't have that ammunition.
So edit the wiki, and cite sources on her age.
Yes, it is one of the original concepts for Misery, for a Ruby Gloom official book.
Pic related was the next phase.
But the very first version of Misery had a ghost-like appearance and it was used in some official bags, I'm trying to find that one now.
Technically it's a sketch from a Ruby Gloom picture book. It got changed for pretty obvious reasons, although there is one book out there that has this sketch of Misery fully colored.
Oh, thanks there. It is kind of funny Misery turns out to be the most popular character in the series.
It kinds of remind me of a ghost character called Carrie in The amazing world of gumball. Carrie is pretty popular, but, her prototype design is somewhat......different. Here is her prototype.
Here's the colored one I was refering to.
>She's always looking for Ruby because she enjoys her company
>But Ruby avoids Misery
>and Misery still loves her
Ruby is just not worthy, man!
I'm honestly kinda shocked how many things changed when Ruby became a cartoon.
>Misery and Skull Boy got a redesign
>Boo-Boo used to have brothers and he wasn't even the prankster one, he was just the cute innocent one
>Skull Boy lived in a giant skull and not Ruby's house
>Several other little characters like Jealousy that never even showed up in the cartoon
I still want to see how human Skullboy looked like, this picture was such a tease.
To think Ruby would've looked like her official figures.
Some official toy released officially, the one I posted was even signed by Martin Hsu.
I don't want to imagine what their version of Misery looked like. Or Iris.
I think I lost a little bit of my humanity looking at this.
It's like some kind of bootleg Ruby Gloom.
And here it is! The original version of Misery.
Before being a banshee, she was a ghost.
>"Misery, a ghost from my house. She's sweet but depress'n"
I gave it my best shot given the little resources I had for it.
Sorry for the primitive capturing, all I had is my camera.
It's okay, anon, we can be glad they didn't release the rest of the cast... publicly.
This is exactly what I had in mind!
No problemo, it's fun to see how much Misery has evolved over the years. She's also my favorite character.
A little closer shot. The other photos are here too
I agree, and they would look fantastic.
I would die happily if there were figures of the characters tho, accurate-looking ones, unlike the official clusterfuck I posted here >>77681495
I'm sure there's a lot more we may never find online, all the concepts and stuff, it's amazing.
The japanese "Ruby Gloom's Bible" set...
It wouldn't be the same. Seriously though, look at this shit: http://funko.com/pages/licensors. It's insane how many they have. Maybe we should email them and ask about the possibility of it.
The Gloomy love never ends.
It's a mighty need! As far as I know, there's some little extra content like music videos and such.
>>Boo-Boo used to have brothers
Who I assume were replaced by Mr. White and Mr. White
>Several other little characters like Jealousy that never even showed up in the cartoon
Any pics of that character or any others?
They just loved her a lot over there. The show definitely got much more and better publicity in Japan than it did in Canada and other places.
I'm so glad you asked!! Here's the aforementioned Jealousy
"When Jealousy reers its ugly head, give it a makeover"
I like to imagine it being more like pic related
H-he is in a coma!
Now this is a character I would have loved to see in the show, she seems like she'd be fun.
If it's any consolation, I did try my had at a redesign of her, and gave her a personality and all that jazz
I would have loved to see her too.
And honestly I'm gonna guess this was originally what Venus looked like but I have no idea.
And my favorite piece of content that didn't make it to the show, an island of cutesy characters and bright colors that Ruby is afraid of.
This should of been an episode.
Now I'm sad, here we see many potential good characters that could've been in a number of episodes
and we got stuck with Skullboy and his damned identities that didn't lead the show anywhere
Ruby Gloom is one of the few series that bring sad nostalgia.
Back when darkness meant cartoon skulls and bats. White on black frilly borders.
Goddamn life was simple back then.
Frank and Len don't get enough love. They had some solid episodes and a good design.
Sometimes their comic relief can be a bit grading and repetitive, but they have some pretty funny moments and solid episodes.
I always thought that these two had a left brain right brain thing going on, except someone screwed up and got the brains switched.
No, she just did that one time.
Her whole deal is that she's the happiest girl in the world.
>110 image replies
>Still no Venus
Preferring Venus is suffering.
And she sees the bright side of the dark side.
What if we just all together asked them to make Ruby Gloom Pop! Figures?
It's almost been 10 years since the show started, we should ask Funko if they can make some.
It sucks being the misery in your group of friends.
I would like to help with that.
I'm kind of a cross between Ruby and Misery with a tiny bit of Skullboy, definitely not Iris tho.
That doesn't sound like a criticism of Iris.
This was a whole set.
Ruby's regime would be a kind one, where being helpful, cheerful and looking on the bright side are mandatory. Being sad is strictly forbidden and is severely punished with harsh hugs and tickles.
The artist actually said these aren't nazi uniforms and aren't based on any existing military group.
That begin said, even if they were supposed to be nazis those guys did know how to dress sharp.
Thanks! All the help to get these made would be great!
But Nazi is the first thing people think of when they see form-fitting black military coats, black peaked caps with prominent insignia, straight-armed salutes, and fucking red armbands with a prominent insignia that matches the caps. That artist is either saving face or being audaciously flippant, like the "all characters depicted are aged 18+" disclaimer on loli Tumblr accounts.
Still, I have to hand it to the Nazi party: they designed military uniforms like nobody else could. It's a good aesthetic that makes a lot of characters stand out, and as shallow as it is to say it's a shame that aesthetic will never hit the mainstream ever again.
