What the fuck is this supposed to mean?

No. It was to scare the woman off. The only people she knows is Luke & Killgrave.

>>
>>77629817

It means you talk while watching with others.

I finished it last night.

I can safely say I went on and off and on again feeling sorry for the sister-incest twin.

My empathy meter for her ranged from absolute hatred to actual tears of sadness.
>>
I thought the girl twin would freak out more and run to the cops. It seemed unrealistic her going along with Jess & Marlon.
>>
>>77629877

It would be redundant since Kilgrave mind controlled the cops into letting her go and forgetting the charges.
>>
Show was pretty good. Great villain.
>>
Posted on the opinion thread, but.....

Watching through again, why are some of the effects so absolute shit-tier? The bus hitting Kilgrave in episode 2? The way it flips over is fucking comical.

I was more put off by the sound editing.
Examples like talking in fight scenes with stunt doubles. It was very poorly dubbed over the scene and stuck out.

She made no sense. She was happily fucking Jeryn while she was married then while the divorce was proceeding she became this huge cunt that put stipulations on their relationship hinging on her being completely divorced, and being a bigger cunt to the woman she was married to for years because 'that's the woman she fell in love with'.
It sent her on the spiral that led to her trying to use Jessica to strong-arm her ex then trying to use Kilgrave to the same end, which made one of them dead and the other in jail and Jeryn with nothing but a redemption story through Danny Rand when Iron Fist comes.

Just finished

Things I didn't know I enjoyed:
>Neo-noir
>Gumshoe shenanigans
>Ritter's butt
>Those jeans her butt was in
>Maladjusted Bitchtude Female Protagonists (this series and a manga called Teppu has me thinking that this character archetype needs more love)
>Live action Luke Cage
>Milfs from the Matrix
>Sweet Christmas
>The "artistic" gentleman in the OP
>Banana bread
>Mop headed side kicks
>Villains that are immature, psychopathic, and generally confused about life

Things I didn't know I disliked:
>Buddy cops reveal they are former spec ops and currently bootleg super soldiers
>Excessive childhood flashbacks
>Flashbacks that insult the viewer's intelligence by slowing down scenes
>Zooming in on important details that were obvious by simply using the cognitive skill of an eight year old
>Sweet Christmas
>Lull episodes that calm the tension between intense moments (seriously, a 20min break is fine, but a 48min one is pushing it)

All in all, I give this an objective 7.5/10 where Daredevil was a 7/10. It had its flaws, but it turned out to be a solid piece of entertainment.

As for the Purple man not being purple, I'll say this: HAHA, NERDS. No, seriously, it did not affect the narrative in the slightest.

I was actually really compelled to binge watch... up until the quarter or so of the show. Not that I didn't want to watch it, but the same relentless drive wasn't there. Kilgrave gets captured and escapes one too many times, I feel. The whole thing with the support group felt really contrived, and fuck that twin sister. Malcolm turned out great, I felt bad about Rubin, even, but she was just an annoying cunt. I know that was her character, but her comic relief was grating.

It felt a bit too scattershot at times. Like, the stuff with the divorce and Simpson/Nuke eventually got tied in, thankfully, but for a while it'd seem like a total distraction.

On the other hand, I thought Ritter was great I still want Jessie's girl and Tennant stole every fucking scene he was in. I was skeptical going in, but he sold me. The scene in the police station alone was fucking great.

I wish we got more "Jessica tries to direct Kilgrave to good" really. That alone seems like a premise to an entire series.

Also, the fight scenes were a real step down from Daredevil. It's super strength and not ninjas, yeah, but there's just too much picking up and throwing guys over and over and over.

I'd probably put my rating at 8/10, or maybe a 7/10. Still really good, and I'm real hopeful for Luke Cage.
>>
>>77630928
It's good but had some problems. For example:
One guy controlled coincidentally happens to be a black ops super soldier
Immune to his powers for now reason.
Characters treat Simpson like a bad guy before he actually does bad things like retroactively justifying the characters treatment of him.
Not much action/fight scenes.
Technical shortcomings with graphics, sound, editing etc.

Overall enjoyable and a decent watch with good things to counter those bad.

Nuke was one of the best parts

>tfw we'll never get a Netflix Hawkguy
It's such a shame he got sucked into Avengers movies. There's nothing interesting for him to do there and they've only hurt his character. I don't like Renner that much in the role, either, but that might just be me.

>>
>>77630855

Daredevil could probably sense the pheremones, and he'd have an advantage if he knew that Purple Man could control minds from witness accounts and such.

Jessica Jones didn't really make very good tactical movies.

The fact that she didn't have a secret base of operations made things pretty difficult for her. There's a reason why Daredevil hides all his shit.

+ Trish is the qt to end all qt's (those leggings hnnngggh)
+ David Tennant was great

+/- Luke Cage?

- Boring lesbian scenes hardly related to the plot
- Jessica Jones was an unlikable bitch
- Effects were shit
- Really odd plotlines (hurr I'm going to try and kill you because the Avengers crushed my mom/ durr take me to superjail so Kilgrave can find me)
- Bad effects
- Bad acting all around except Trish and Kilgrave

Struggling to come up with positives, but I still felt inclined to watch every episode.
Solid 5/10 I guess. Probably will never watch again.
>>
>>77631557
It was a good book, bro. It also lends itself fairly well to the format and I want Kate.

Plus do you really think it would be any worse than what they've done with Hawkeye so far, or whatever the fuck they're planning to do when they get into cosmic shit?
>>
>>77631228
I'll be honest with you, I enjoyed the direction that it went but it was such a detour. The best way I can explain this is through an analogy with the Mass Effect series. Mass Effect 2, my favorite, was an honest to goodness deviation in the plot's advancement. It was an interesting aside, but beyond that it was kind of a scenic route that could have been skipped.

I just felt that Nuke gave off the whole "tacked on for season 2 fun and games" vibe. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed him and all, but the way his character evolved contrasted with the noir tone of the show. It was almost campy while the show tried to be serious.

I do look forward to more of him, though. I feel like there is a lot of potential there.

>>77631257
It was both funny and a respectful gesture to the fans. But, at the same time, it needed a stronger delivery. I wasn't expecting a cringe worthy outburst, just a little more emoting. That was all.

Still, like I said, I enjoyed the show. Netflix appears to be competent with these things.

Maybe because she was controlled consistantly for so long as well, not a natural resistance build up, but more of a trained resistance, like to get around it you need strong willpower and the mental experience of trying to fight it?

>>77633086

I want to find ways he can be alive

I want to pull a glenn and just fan dream all day about how he made it

but this time its pretty hard to imagine, unless his power boost let him tell people to also SEE what he wanted them to see....but idk they didnt leave a door open for him to be alive outside of total bullshit

"you either live long enough to be a shitty villain, or die a legendary one" or go full vegeta or green ranger but kilgrave aint no fucking hero

They seemed too close and talked too emotionally to just be friends.
"I don't hear from you for months. 6 months actually"
"I needed breathing room"
"You shut me out"

I would never have a convo like that with just one of my friends. So not knowing they were sisters I assumed they were ex lovers.
>>
>>77633285
They could say he gained regeneration powers that revived him from near death, but he's way too powerful to just let him run around free. Unless SHIELD is able to safely house a guy like him, nigga needs to die.
>>
>>77633311
before that it was implied that in between loud fights they were having loud sex, but it could have just been that the sister's name calling sometimes skirted towards the kind of insults normally reserved for BDSM and Jessica disliked them too much to give the benefit of the doubt.
>>

First five episodes felt like a chore to get through.
Fight scenes felt as bad or worse than the last DD fight
Effects looked like crap
Inconsistent powers (jumping in particular, she rarely fucking uses it, if she can jump and land without being injured why the fuck doesn't she jump out of half the fights)
Painfully similar to the comic character which is also a shit.

At least it's better than heroes.

In 5 episodes, this character is seriously lacking.
I hope they focus on him more in the following episodes, or it will be too much wasted potential there.

It's a small complaint about it, but I do get frustrated that the Netflix shows have a staggering lack of crossover with other parts of the universe.

Nah, his parents saved his life. The only bad parenting they did was not getting a sniper to blow his head off.
>>
>>77636475
I don't fully agree with this, I believe that all people have the option to rise above their upbringing rather than be defined by it. Kilgrave didn't want to grow up, why be an adult with responsibilities why he can just be a big spoiled child all his life? And with his power that was a very real possibility that he actively pursued.

That being said, I really liked the scenes where Jess makes him do the hero bit, hives a glimpse of what if, but you see him quickly turn back to what he's comfy with and act like a snobbish child. He could have just as easily grown up and used his childhood trauma to fuel a need to do good had it been a diffrent story.
>>
>>77636485
if he really just wanted to live well he wouldn't have bothered leaving a trail of broken people behind him.

Kilgrave was meticulous about destroying all evidence that he even existed and saying that someone mind controlled you just makes you sound crazy.
>>
>>77630520
>she didn't deserve what happened at all.
You're confusing her with Ruben. She was incestuous, controlling, and manipulative. Ruben "fell in love" with Jess at first sight because he saw her as a way to get away from Robyn, someone who actually stood up to her and didn't let her walk all over her.

AKA Robyn a shit, Ruben a best.

The actor confirmed it. They just gave him a different background since they can't use Weapon Plus and probably budget, too. Also the pills were red, white, and blue, an obvious nod to the flag tat.

He was a guy on the edge. At first he seems just kind of goofy, but his remorse for nearly killing Patsy sends him into a protective streak a mile wide that keeps getting worse as time goes on. Eventually he gets wounded to the point of near death after Killgrave IEDs him which sends him back to the organization he used to serve under. He takes the pills and that pushes him entirely over the edge. He becomes psychotic and pragmatic as fuck, going so far as to kill people that got in his way and trying to kill Jessica because he thought she didn't have it in her to kill the Purple Man.
>>
Why did they make Killgrave not his real name?

I'm confused as to why they needed a very specific anaesthetic drug.
ANY drug that can knock people out would have done the job.
Don't say "it cancels his powers", because that doesn't mean shit when he's unconcios and can't speak, and even if his powers are "canceled" the orders he already gave will still be carried out

Jones thought sedating him would cancel out his powers completely (including his existing orders) because he refused to be put under when the doc did the kidney transplant.
>>
>>77636952
Kilgrave's power, while a verbal component was often used, it's not sound based, I'm sure that, given time he would have leaned how to issue commands without his words. While you are correct that just knocking him out would usually work, the doc did say that there was a diffrence to being asleep or knocked out and the drug that was used because it shuts off certain brain functions. Remember, Jess did say that he sleeps, Implyng his power continues to work while in a rem state.
>>
>>77637030
>given time he would have leaned how to issue commands without his words.
Even if that were true, he would still need to be concious to use his powers, so knocking him out with any drug would still be just as effective

>>77639108
Why didnt Jessica kill Kilgrave 1 out of the 4 times shes had him captive?
>>
What a disappointing ending. NOBODY was buying that Jones was under his control.

The show started stronger than it finished. The problem was that Kilgrave was 85% of the plot. Like all the dialogue was about what he could do, or the effects of what he's done, that it starts to become draining, especially after 13 hours. And for all that buildup for such a weak climax...yeah, the show is a B-
There are some parts that are good, but I wouldn't care to watch a second season.
>>
How was not letting the fuck with a shotgun commit suicide a good decision? Innocents are safe, let the psycho commit suicide.
>>
>>77639191
Actual suspense because watching 13 episodes of someone that's 100% infallible isn't interesting.

In the first season of Daredevil everything was about Wilson Fisk
>>
>>77639263
>except Nuke and Trish, they did nothing wrong
>>
>>77639267
Fisk had other criminals he worked with. Gao, Vlad, and Nobu all had their own goals and interactions with Matt and broke things up.
>>
>>77639268
>trusting a slavshit, let alone a Russian
>nothing wrong
>>
>>77639267
Daredevil had entire episodes dedicated to trying to make Fisk into an actual person first and a villain second. With little to no actual Daredevil present.
Daredevil had a network of mob bosses vying for power. People weaved in and out, fucking up plans of one person or another, redirecting the plot. Motherfuckers gettin' their heads smashed, wives getting poisoned, giving other characters the opportunity to, for example, murder Fisk's right hand.

JJ is thirteen hours of "I'll get you next time, you rascally, rapey rabbit!"
>>
>>77639284
>Gao, Vlad, and Nobu all had their own goals and interactions with Matt and broke things up.

Apart from the Russians they barely got touched upon, Gao being the most egregious example.

>>
>>77639341
>and really who cared about Hope

The writers?
>>
>>77639316
you don't remember the part where the entire plot shifted because of Leland's actions?
Or how Matt's fight with Nobu convinced him to try and get the suit made?
Or the Russians being important to Fisk centralizing his power?
>>
>>77638809
That was from when she just watched episode 3 or so, so no.
>>
>>77639191
yeah, that's the thing that bothered me the most. At times it seemed like her superpower was being as strong as a well trained man.
And also that bullet damage her as much as any normal human. But that's a pet peeve of mine. People with physical superpowers should at the very least be more resistant and take less damage from weapons, including bullets. Otherwise you could make them as strong as the hulk, they can still only get in brawls because any goon with a gun can kill them as easily as any other person.
>>77639252
You can have suspense without disregarding the fact that she has superpowers. If she still takes damage, just less than normal people then you still have suspense because she can still be damaged and killed by people with normal weapons, but at the same time you can show how having powers means he can get into shit that other people wouldn't survive and still come out alive, although a bit hurt.

Wait, I'm confused.
The moment the cheating wife told Jessica that she told her husband about the affair and him hiring Jessica, only that the husband says he never hired her, I thought Killgrave had orchestrated it to get Jessica and Luke to meet.
But nothing ever came of it, and Killgrave was unaware of Luke, so who hired Jessica?
>>
>>77639381
Nobody.
>>
>>77639341
I actually really liked Patricia.
>>77639352
Actually, from the way they dropped interest in the character after her death, they really didn't. Look how fast people got over her death. Jessica was barely even affected by it.
>>
>>77639381
No one. She was spying on Luke because she felt guilty about killing his wife.
>>
>>77639381
Jessica was just stalking Luke. She lied about there being a client.
>>
>>77639381
She's just a stalker who liked Luke? I guess?

>>
>>77639267
They still had things like Foggy and Karren dates and even what Fisk is doing with his girlfriends and stuff to break up things. JJ was dead focused on Kilgrave's hunt for way too much of the shows run time. The subplots were very minimal, and that' draining for 13 hours.

To be fair.

Sociopaths and people with large egos are actually some of the most easily manipulated people in the world.
>>
>>77639306
Hey, to be fair they tried to make him a character.
Too bad it didn't amount to anything.
>try to teach Kilgrave to be a hero
>put him through hell later
I wish she at least tried to make him help Hope and see whether he was manipulating her or was genuine.
>>
>>77639306
Yes! This!

There was more intrigue in DD. The whole "Black Sky" thing is a mystery that you can discuss as the Stick episode not only enhanced DD's backstory, but teased a larger mystery. Even "Who poisoned Kingpins girlfriend" was something to keep you guessing.
Jones was the entire time focused on capturing Kilgrave that it started to lose its value when they capture him 3 times and all 3 times he gets away because someone was a dumbass.
Hell, I'm not even interested into the setup of season 2 with the Nuke thing because it was too little too late to try to build a secondary mystery that was "an evil company is doing evil shit". OH THAT'S REALLY ORIGINAL MARVEL!

Jessica Jones is not a good person.
It it continues to surprise me that people people are surprised when she isn't.

Shes a great character though.

John Constantine is a fucking asshole and I never see people bitch about him being unlikable.
Because honestly. John is a fucking monster.

But also a great character.

That irks the shit out of me when people automatically think: Good characterization = A nice person.

Bad Lieutenant is a top notch film about a complete son of a bitch. Great character work though. Monster is an pretty good film about a fucking psychobitch. Great character work though.

Not everything has to be Star Wars. Pure good vs. pure evil. And I say that as a big SW fan.
>>
>>77639497
It wouldn't have worked in the long run. Kilgrave was impatient and indulgent. He was only ever interested in being entertaining himself and feeding his passions. All throughout that scene he acted irritated and bored and only went along with it to placate Jessica and because of the novelty of "doing something selfless".

If she had tried to keep using his powers productively he would have gotten tired and frustrated with it and would have lashed out at her.
>>
>>77639631
That means there needs to be good characterization though. Jessica is shit when it comes to that. She tries way too hard to be edgy.
>>
>>77639631
Eileen Wuornos is one of the worst serial killers in real life. She's like less hateful or interesting Carl Panzram.
>>
>>77639667
Haven't seen the show. Just saw the anon that I was replying too and had a relevant thought, so I posted.

>>77639668
Yeah, well, you can't really sell a Jeffrey Dahmer film. There is plenty of great character work in Monster, like I mentioned, but a lot of it is hidden beneath really weird shit- as though the filmmakers were trying to make her sympathetic.

A go-gettem' gal sticking it to the dirty men who hire hookers? You can sell that.

But you can't sell a guy lobotomizing, raping, and skinning 63 teenage boys.
>>
>>77639667

I suffer from PTSD (a friend of mine died 18 inches from my face while looking directly into my eyes) and am a functioning alcoholic.
Honestly. Its not a perfect representation but its not too far off.
>>
So what are the actual chances of Kilgrave coming back for another season of JJ or at the very least Defenders?
>>
>>77639497
That's the point of the character. He's a spoiled children who doesn't care about others, not an evil mastermid pr a mob boss.

Think of a cat. One moment it could be playing happily with a bird, and the next it gets bored and eviscerates the bird just to see how long its guts are. If you see it when it's playing with the brids you think it's a cute cat who loves birds. I you see it the next time you'll have to change your mind.
That's how kilgrave is.
He doesn't have some dark motive or evil scheme. He's just enjoying himself.
>>
>>77639469

Yeah. I think it's logical that with super strength you'd get at least a bit over peak human durability, it just makes sense anatomically.
>>
>>77639715
While I'm sorry to hear that happened to you, it doesn't make me care for the character. I think her edgy portrayal felt forced and disingenuous.
Still, that sucks, and I hope you'll be okay.

>>77639835

Its been a few years.
The panic attacks are further and fewer between.

He drowned in the Delaware river.
So I avoid Rivers like the plague.

Sometimes people will talk about times they nearly drowned swimming or something to that effect and I lose my shit a bit.

So I politely remove myself from the conversation.

Because not everyone knows everything about me an the world doesn't revolve around my experiences and feelings

Eat a dick tumblr.
>>
>>77636802
But its not about him controlling you as much as it was the paranoia of him controlling other people. And him making other people do thing like killing themselves. He always had other people holding knives to their throats and stuff to control people without having to directly control them and because everyone except based Nuke wanted to save everyone they weren't willing to let other people die so wearing headphones wouldn't of mattered
>>
>>77636952
If that's all that mattered Jessica could ko him with one punch. They went to great lengths in the show to say that the anaesthetic used by doctors to put someone under is special as it affects certain parts of the brain and that using it would stop his powers while under, which they believed would cancel any existing orders. Killgrave also believed this which is why he had hired bodyguards instead of mind controlled ones since he also thought that while drugged any existing mind control would wear off and why he stayed concious during the procedure
>>
>>77639835
I thought her characterization made sense. The people she cared about most in life got killed because of her, so she pushes everyone away and avoids getting close. Then was captured and raped and had her will dominated by a horrible character, giving her PTSD on top of everything. It would be weird if she wasn't edgy.
>>
>>77637923
But how's he supposed to work out? Going to the gym would do nothing to him cause none of the weights would push him and he'd just get loads of looks. He said how he went to a scrapyard to move cars and stuff to test himself but I don't think he could really be bothered to set up a mr incredible style gym there. He just wanted a low profile and to run his bar
>>
>>77639909
how the fuck does someone drown inches from your face while looking at you what the fucking shit oh my god

you don't have to answer that but what the fuck
>>
>>77640017
It does make sense, but the way it was presented made it seem downplayed. If it was that bad, SHOW that it was bad. JJ suffers a bad case of "tell, not show". I didn't know much about the character before watching, and to me, she felt disingenuous and forced. I guess if you've read more comics with her, her personality makes more sense, but I wouldn't know.
