>A single tv ad is better than the entirety of the current "The Muppets" season.

Why can't they just bring back The Muppet Show? Only update its format slightly but still keeping it a fun and weird sketch show, stick with one guest per episode and keep the original theme that everyone knows the lyrics to by heart.
>>
>>77599520
The old show had a few hidden adult jokes backstage, but it also had creative musical and comedy sketches. The new show is like if the backstage banter lacked subtlety, and was the only thing that existed.
>>
The original series was a parody of the variety shows that were popular in the late sixties/sevens.

This current show is supposed to be a parody of shit like The Office.

The two things that drove the original show were the short sketch format, and all the celebrity guests.

It's probably a lot harder and more expensive to get celebrity guests now than it was 40 years ago.

It even has a 'making off' well kind of, they still hide the muppeteers.

>>77599624
Not just off stage or hidden, they just did them. "The Muppets" does lack a lot of its original charm and creativity, I agree.
>>
>>77599668
Yeah the old show was a parody of variety shows and vaudeville comedy, who says it can't be updated though to be a more modern sketch show while still involving the Muppet theatre?

>The two things that drove the original show were the short sketch format, and all the celebrity guests.

Actually celebrities were lining up/begging to come on The Muppet Show back then.
>>
>>77599668
It would basically be "Muppets Tonight" which replaced the vaudeville stuff with an SNL theme
>>
>>77599520
I disagree that the show is a bit lackluster. It feels like they're playing it too straight. I feel like this idea could have worked if they were still producing the Muppet Show within the show. Up Late with Miss Piggy was a retarded idea. It feels like we're supposed to be laughing just because they're puppets doing regular human things. I feel like it could have a human cast and very little would be different. The pacing of the episodes are also pretty weird, it feels like when the story of the episode finally gains momentum the credits aren't too far behind, it's almost like they slap the credits on the middle of the episode.
>>
>>77599940
I agree*
Pretty fucking big error on my part.

Muppets Tonight actually wasn't too bad but very rooted in the 90s, so I can imagine a more updated The Muppet Show working out. If only they actually did that instead of 'The Muppets'.
>>
>>77599974
> but very rooted in the 90's

Of course it was, but the idea of a sketch show isn't.

Lackluster and bland indeed, the only thing that makes it colourful are the Muppet characters.

If it had a human cast it would be just another The Office/30 Rock/ParksRec clone and that format has gotten stale by now, with the muppets characters being its only redeeming factor no wonder it's ratings aren't doing well.

The sketch show parody is already taken by 30 Rock (or whatever it's called)
>>
>>77600063
Still, there's also a chance it could come in to it's own should it get a season 2 or now that it was picked up for a full season. It's not really bad by any means, it just needs something more.

Well yeah that's what I initially hoped for when they announced they were making a new show.

Instead we got the muppets misused in a format that's tired as fuck and it's circling the cancellation drain.
>>
>>77600113
30 Rock wasn't a sketch show, it involved around one but the majority of the show was backstage stuff and its 'stars'.
>>
>>77600121
Wouldn't count on it getting a second season, though they did order three more episodes last month.

>ABC has ordered three more installments of the Tuesday night series, bringing the freshman season tally to 16 episodes. Other news shows have received full season orders for 22 episodes.

It's up against Flash and NCIS there was no way it was going to really do all that great. It could be saved by DVR and Hulu views like Agents of SHIELD was in its first season.

>>77601166

They dropped that characterization for him after the first episode.

Show's OK honestly but it feels like it's trying to be 30 Rock without having any of 30 Rock's charm.

Also Denise has to go she's just not engaging on any level.

they tried that with one of the two revival shows, i forget which. it had sketches like 'seinfeld babies' and such. i liked it, but it got shitcanned like most muppet productions because nobody watched it because it was on some obscure channel. muppets have always had trouble finding a good channel. i mean theyre on fucking ABC now

It looks pretty neat, Kirk Thatcher is directing so I have faith in him doing a good job with it. He should have been in charge of The Muppets because Kirk is one of the last few people that have worked with Jim and understands his vision.

I just woke up from the weirdest dream. GWAR was the special guest on the old Muppet Show and were just causing all sorts of havoc like Odorus hitting on Mrs. Piggy (aggressively) or whenever the old guys would make fun of them they'd throw large axes at them, and miss. Everyone then tried to come up with a plan to get rid of them ASAP, but GWAR finally did the one thing no one should do, break Animal's drums before he could. So Animal goes crazy-er and beat them up and kicks them through the roof.
