Zack, if you're reading this thread (you're not but let's pretend you are), listen to what I have to say.

I love DBZ. I really do. I genuinely watch it every day. I've seen Goku's Kaioken Times 3 against Vegeta scene over 100 times alone. And it's clear to me, reading the current storyline, that you love DBZ too, Zack.

Let me level with you. I'm a comic writer myself. I'm not nearly as established as you, nor does my comic have anywhere near the readership yours does. But I speak from experience as a writer here.

When one watches or reads something they really like, and one is also a writer and/or artist, they tend to want to create something very much like the great thing they just watched or read. I have personally experienced this with a great many things I have read or watched, including DBZ.

But I stopped myself. Ripping off something great automatically disqualifies your work from being great, because it's blatantly taking notes from that other work. So when I want to write my comic like, say, DBZ, I think hard about what I'm doing and stop myself, and I go back to my original plan. I think "is doing a storyline where my MC was really an alien all along a good idea?" and I come to a conclusion after critical thinking. Now, I'm not going to say my comic is any good, I think if the creator of a work says it's good that's a sure sign of hubris, but I can guarantee it's better sticking with my original plan than if I decided to start ripping off, say, DBZ.

But you didn't do that, Zack. You never took a step back and thought "maybe half a year of updates focusing solely on one scene from a much larger story, with enough genuine story consequences to fit into about one month worth of updates isn't such a good idea." And now we're here.

I seriously can't believe Zack put in a 70 page side story that has literally nothing to do with anything in the chapter.

It wouldn't be as terrible if:

1) There was some kind of B-Plot, probably with Ed, to break up the monotony
2) If the excuses for Hijack staying in Jeph were not flimsy as absolute fuck

I mean, Christ, Hijack's reasoning for staying in Jeff for so long is just terrible from all angles. All for fucking Hitball.

We don't know what'll end up happening, but it feels as though Hijack could have made the switch between himself and the teacher, let Ed see it, Ed tries to tell Isabella but he can't get close enough to tell her (she's avoiding him), short thing about hitball (Suzy, Ed not picked, power of friendship with Johnny's crew) and that's about as far as we've gotten in the story.

I don't think this would have taken half as long as what we've got now, but I don't know if the majority of it is even necessary either

Hitball would be fun for a few weeks, but after a year, you'd be just as tired of it as you were the train.

At least the train had things happen, and it had a B-Plot to take away from it.

Also, at least the train was the destination of that chapter, unlike Hitball, which is a deviation from the main story.

I think Spender might not be referring to them in that panel.

But what I meant is that those are the only three teachers, other than Spender, who we've seen in the comic.

It would be kind of silly if they introduced a new Orange teacher just to get possessed.

The only character who has an orange cue is Isaac, but his spectral color is Blue, so I don't think he'd be applicable for this theoretical scenario.

I think anon had a nice idea with Hijack's only being able to possess orange things, but I don't know how real that is. It may have more to do with Zack's sense of thematic coloring

I kind of wish Zack used a different term for that, like inhabited or something, especially when Spirits actually can possess in the familiar way.

Possession has the connotation of control over someone, which does sort of come into play with Max and Spender's possession, so I guess it still works.
