Yeah, I know. I followed the entire movie through production up until release. I'm not an idiot, I know that the monsters are secondary to the human plot. That doesn't excuse the crap we got. What's the point of some small monster action when 90% of the film is a boring story with nothing to get emotionally invested in? The lead was more wooden than a tree and what few characters that may have held our interest were either killed off or were given little else to do but sit back and watch the protag live through sheer plot armor. Don't get me started on the complete lack of precedence for Godzilla... they build him up to be a force to be reckoned with... like he attacked in the past, when he actually never did anything. He took a nuke to the face and lived... that was it. He disappeared for 60 years for no reason and when he came back, he caused relatively minimal damage in the grand scheme of things and showed no real hostility toward anything other than the designated enemy monsters. How am I supposed to cheer on Godzilla when he wakes up and leaves when he never exhibited any more personality than he did in an episode of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon... Hell, the Hanna-Barbera Godzilla had more personality than 2014 Godzilla. It was a boring, super-safe movie made by some guy who only really watched the first film in real detail and saw a smattering of other films through their paltry UK releases. He failed to even grasp the meaning behind the original movie and just made a really boring episode of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon. He only made one other film before Godzilla and that film was not particularly good or well written either. The only parts of the film that were lauded were his special effects and that's only because he did them himself in post-production, not because they were really good and engaging. He was chosen based solely on his first film and because he was cheap and wouldn't take any risks and would be a yes man for WB and Toho. That's it.

Since we are talking about the movie here - does anyone feel that if they had switched Bryan Cranston dying with Aaron Johnson dying (at the same point in the movie) that the movie would have been much more powerful? Like that scene where Ford and Godzilla stare at each other - Joe Brody begging Godzilla to get up after he blew up the nest, to keep on fighting, to avenge his son, and then crying in anguish as he watches Godzilla give up. I don't agree. I'm glad Bryan Cranston's character died because otherwise people may go to watch the sequel for him instead of Godzilla. His death is also consequence ofhis obsession, even if he had good intentions; it would be wrong if he just got to meet his family like nothing happened after years of neglect, let alone rise his grandson.

There is an interview to the writter of "Rulers of Earth" (I think in Toho Kingdom) where he goes to explain that every version of the monsters has limitations and possibilities in what they can do.
For example, the first Mechagodzilla has to be alien, the other two have to be man-made, Showa Godzilla can't have the powers of Heisei Godzilla and vice versa, etc.
So, this issue called for Godzilla being impaled and beheaded, so they had to use the only Godzilla who got a bloody, brutal death in the movies.

So that whole fight in #4 in that walled off city. Read it for the first time in this thread. At first I thought Godzilla found is way into a set for one of the monster scenes in his movies with the fake buildings and everything. The wall being the end of the set, where they put fake skylines and shit up. Then the vast white/blankness outside of it representing how outside of whatever shot of whatever movie your on nothing exists, cause it's a movie. Like I thought that Godzilla head just laying on the ground was part of a costume some suit actor wears.

Godzilla 14 was great. The giant monsters actually felt huge and scary whenever they were on-screen, in no small part because of the build up.

Godzilla 98 was boring. It was like half an hour longer but with less satisfying monster scenes.

I don't know where this dumb mentality comes from that the title must refer to the thing with the most screentime.
A lot of people seem to have not been paying much atention, also. Thinking for example that Godzilla was an actual goody guy wanting to protect humanity, not getting that the Mutos are parasites that kill giant monsters like Godzilla to reproduce, and so he wanted to get rid of them for his own sake.

It's Yog-Satanoth sitting on top of a mountain while Godzilla's powers finally fail him.

Not really feeling the art styles were my thing they still all worked pretty well and were good in their own ways.

I'm kinda split on the second issue myself. It would have been fine without the words, but that kind of narration fit really well with the art style to give it a very "classic" fantasy comic feel.

The narration also gave you a bit more of a general description of the hell(s) as they would be for all creatures not just G.

I've been interested in the IDW Godzilla stuff for a while and have read a little bit /co/ before but being unsure about the art always held me back a little. This being a miniseries really helped though, getting a nice full story usually makes me more invested and able to accept art outside my comfort zone better.

I'm still not sure if the monsters in issue 2 were demons in the shape of Angy, Rodan and Varan... or the real monsters possesed by demons.
