ms marvel, the cute edition
>WOW TOO COOL
>LOOK AT ME! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!
>ISN'T THIS AWESOME
I can't stand that shit and it seems like it's been in every comic I've read from Marvel for months now. I know comics have a strong "wish fulfillment" component, but do they have to lampshade too? It feels old-fashioned in a bad way.
Bruno gets laid, why don't you anon?
seemed mostly white to me
and then things started getting alphona'ey
>gentrification is bad!
I think I'm done with the big two, outside of the current Star Wars comics. This is even worse than the garbage storylines they were churning out in the late 90's with 18 foil variant covers that would cross over with 9 other books.
that's the end of this story
Solicit for #3
• SPOILER ALERT: The agents at HOPE YARDS DEVELOPMENT aren’t actually interested in real estate.
• Turns out, the development company that co-opted Ms. Marvel’s face has been busy brainwashing the people of Jersey City…including BRUNO!
• Can Kamala find a way to save her city and her best friend from being mindless gentrified automatons?
I don't trust Mike.
>Ends like five separate times
Are you shitting on Return of the King, man? What the fuck. First you change Kamala for Mike and then you hate on one of the best high-fantasy films? Disgusting.
>How dare this nine hour story have an ending of relatively appropriate length
I can understand being a little anxious the first time you're watching it, but Jesus Christ this is my least favorite complaint about the trilogy.
That's the problem with most modern-moviegoers/readers (yes, not of the actual media but of the consumer). They want things to be fast and done with.
Proper conclusion to a story where all loose threads are tied? Nah that would extend the movie by 10 minutes and then some will say "It's too long!" and avoid it.
By the way, I'm pretty sure Secret Wars will commit the sin of appealing to this people.
Marvel-616, the pre-Secret Wars universe, was the 7th iteration of reality. In the conclusion of Secret Wars, the 8th iteration is/will be born. By all accounts, it's just a reconstitution of 616/7 with certain things like Weirdworld and the Battlerealm surviving the destruction of Battleworld.
>Stormer cheating on Kimber with Bruno
ONCE A MISFIT ALWAYS A MISFIT
Great use of the artist swap to show the difference in chronology
FUCK YEAH HULK HANDS PORCUPINE
Anyways, I'm glad to see this series no longer being restrained by Secret Wars nonsense and this arc looks like it could be a lot of fun...
>By the way, I'm pretty sure Secret Wars will commit the sin of appealing to this people.
Count on it. Every one of Hickman's miniseries ends abruptly with an intended "thought provoking" re-contextualization of the rest of the story. His never gives his endings room to breath, which I guess makes sense, since he doesn't really write "stories" as much as "delivery mechanisms."
I have never liked a single Hickman ending, from his early Image stuff, to his Marvel output. Fucking Pax Romana had the worst third act and ending I have ever had the misfortune of reading.
After she saved his life and Kamala chose career.
Because she found out like ten minutes ago in the comic. She will probably file the mother of all lawsuits with She-Hulk. She is an icon, but she is still a living person. They can't use her likeness against her will.
Or maybe Tony's "Legal" department can handle that.
The real question is, did her jock bf go live out his dream of mathematics or is he forever doomed to drink cheap beer out of plastic cups and get a degree for courses he never visited?
They won't complain. It's famed in the way that they like, with a character calling her out on her mister immediately after it happens.
They only bitch when it's not hamfistedly (though I think it worked here with Bruno at least) stated that a character said something wrong.
Here's all the alt-universe characters that are now in 616 as far as I know:
>Old Man Logan
>Jefferson (Miles' dad)
>Captain America 2099
>The Regent (could just be the 616 version)
>Supreme Power Nighthawk
>New Universe Blur
>Squadron Sinister Zarda
>Ultimate Thor's Mjolnir
Also, the Elders of the Universe are using the remains of battleworld (now called Battlerealm) as the staging ground for the new Contest of Champions, which the Maestro is part of.
And Reed is "dead."
And false accusations, and too much on her platter, and friends make problems...
There is a lot going on, over all.
Also: Giant rodent enemies: Yay or nay?
I don't think that is what's going to happen.
I think the gentrification could be influencing her, too.
It said it brainwashed everyone. But not into doing what. Compliance, sure. But maybe there is some other agenda, too.
In this series, I would guess maybe a racist plot to enforce segregation through prevention of interracial attraction. Keep it all in neat, tiny boxes.
Sure thing, man. Latinos are white.
>like all the same things, hate all the same things
Obvious Hans-tier villain bait, but also poisonous because people think 100% shared interests is the key quality in finding a mate and it ruins nerds' love lives because they think they can get away with talking about nothing but nerd shit
>That's the problem with most modern-moviegoers/readers (yes, not of the actual media but of the consumer). They want things to be fast and done with.
I'd argue that's in part a reaction to self-indulgent filmmakers deciding every movie needs to be 3 fucking hours long. Transformers. Pirates. Fucking Funny People. I'm glad epic-length films are back in style but only a few people can do them right.
I agree the bitching about multiple endings was kinda silly, because there were so many threads to tie up. But viewing Jackson's subsequent work I can't deny he tends to bloat his movies all to shit because clearly he's a genius.
Maybe an arc or two. But Alphona and Miyazawa seem to be the glorious hellhounds chosen for the main part of the work.
Yeah. Kamala's face says it all.
Also this. Love the comic and Alphona seems to be rubbing off on Miyazawa what with the increased amount of hidden gags on his pages.
Not all latinos are white. Sam is. He's white hispanic. Miles is black hispanic. If you're going to call Sam "not white" then you might as well call Miles "not black." Both of them are equally hispanic afterall.
Did you read the comic?
It start as gentrification but it's clearly something much bigger and badder than it, it's tying with the next marvel event even. Mike is probably in it as well and if you check the solicits it's not about gentrification at all.
FUCKING TRIGGER DISCIPLINE
Looking down the barrel of a gun is pretty fucking spooky, even moreso when that faggot has his finger on the tringer. I'm getting the willies even though it's just an image.
He's a squid now.
And you know he has no idea what he is doing. Pure chance the photographer is still alive.
Yeah. They were all French and Belgian.
But you won't hear the end of it.
Because who would have more reason to fight for the IS in Europe than the people who ran from Syria? Not like they could fight in Syria or anything.
>see Cliff Chiang cover
>Notice his name isn't among the artists
But they found them. Meaning the process works.
Also the US vetting takes like 1.5 to 2 years. They really could get in faster by going through Mexico and hiring someone to sneak them past the border. Or recruit locally, as they do in Europe.
>Spider-Man's firm abs
You better be talking about Peter
>Spider-Man and his extremely firm abs
Fuck this world.
I shipped Ms. MarvelxSpider-man, but not like this. Never like this.
I'd rather see her get with Sam before Miles
>Fat chick with blue hair has lesbian parents
This is an "Alphona-ism". It's not part of the comic, but the artist being funny.
All issues he drew contain (winged) sloths, hulkhand porcupines, birds with hats and the like.
They are much like medieval drolleries.
Alphona also adds tons of background jokes (which Miyazawa has taken up now, too) and absurd sceneries as well.
It's a side effect of being able to be a giant girl.
It's what I call them. They are pretty specific to his style and tone.
they aren't making a big deal out of it. It's a momentary cutaway to her moms. Isn't that what /co/ wants, anon? Gay characters just being gay with no fanfare? So many of you have said you're okay with that, as long as they're not making protags gay for no reason or changing characters' sexuality on a whim.
You wouldn't claim to be okay with incidental homosexuality when you truly hate any incidence of LGBTBBBQ in your comics, would you, anon?
Nah, they'll never turn on their own, that's unheard off.
Robbie's sad life needs to be brightened up by Kamala's cuteness, I'm sure they'd play off each other pretty well. He's got as good of a reason as anyone else she's hooked up with
All the people Kamala are paired with are minorities
If you mean in general: Teenage legacy heroes with comics released right around the same time. If you're talking "Marvel" absolutely no reason, they would never come across each other naturally, and Secret Love is the closest they'd get.
Yeah, they survived the end of the world together and Zoe has been trying. My guess is that she broke up with her guy and just needed to get with a different crowd because she noticed how everyone was through with her after she had been so much of a bitch.
The football team would side with her guy by default and she didn't seem to be popular with the rest of the students. So she would literally have been on her own.
Then the end came and she tries a new beginning. Kamala and Nakia are probably just too happy to give her a leg up and thereby "win" because Zoe had to come to them.
Vandalism isn't cute anon
but then she wouldn't look as cute as when she's petite providing the perfect cover for her acts of vandalism.
She has to stay small so that people don't realize that she's a menace
No. There is no confirmation.
But there's some nuance here. The French government claims that the Syrian passport is a fake, from Turkey.
There is no evidence that a syrian refugee was a member of isis/alquaida involved in this attack..
There's loads of evidence that isis/alquaida members are moving among the refugees.
There's no confirmation that the isis/alquaida members who are either refugees or posing as refugees have launched an attack.
>Yeah. They were all French and Belgian.
Which doesn't discount a refugee connection.
French citizens who travel to the middle east and join ISIS, Al quaida, islamic jihad, ect, are put on a no fly list and refused entry into the country. If any of these guys are on that list, it then is very entered the Schengen zone (European border control) in the chaos of the refugee crisis, then traveled to France.
The TL/DR is, terrorists not shown to be Syrian refugees, may have posed as Syrian refugees to get inside the border.
But all that is a wide tangent from this light, fluffy comic book.
I think she realizes that. That doesn't make her any less jelly.
There is, however, one fatal flaw in your logic.
French and Belgian citizens can move in and out of Europe as they damn well please.
They have no need of hiding so long as they don't fly back and forth between Paris and Baghdad and paint targets on their foreheads. The pasports are a red herring to undermine solidarity and produce more angry Muslims in Europe.
Create a narrative.
Green is used as a positive color, so by using it for closed it creates the narrative that it's a positive thing to be closed.
Same. I enjoy this comic, but that was one of my biggest complains with it so far.
I hope we get more characters who "good" but don't think that she's an amazing perfect little snowflake.
Kamala's own fault for thinking life was like one of her Japanese cartoons.
Really? Kamala seemed like she could get petty very quickly. When Bruno called her parents she couldn't forgive him until she got shot. And she was aware she was being insanely childish about that as she did it but couldn't help it.
But this is exactly what life is like in Japanese cartoons.
The main girl says that she can't date the main boy because reasons, main boy dates someone else, main girl gets jealous.
All that's missing is the main boy and girl getting together at the end of the series.
Or for one of them to get run over by a Japanese truck
>All the people Kamala are paired with are minorities
What about Carol x Kamala?
I can imagine it now. Eventual Next Avengers-ish story that shows the kid of Kamala, but not even a hint at the father.
>The pasports are a red herring to undermine solidarity and produce more angry Muslims in Europe.
Flying to Europe under their own names and traveling with their real documentation would have raised red flags.
You are correct in that this may be a a deliberate attempt, or a desired side effect to get tribalistic anger running in europe, but it's by no means the only reason to have a fake syrian passport
Saying it's proven unconnected to the syrian migrants is not correct. Yes, they're french and belgium citizens, but that's not the entire story.
We don't have all the information on how this was planned, or even have caught or neutralized all the terrorists involved, but there's something that's very clear.
There are confirmed reports of some of the fighters being in Syria and Turkey and fighting for ISIS in 2014.
At some point, they entered France, smuggled in enough arms and ordinance to overthrow a small south american dictatorship as well.
Yeah. The kid uses very choice, accent-free English, but occasionally uses words from other languages.
>Urdu terms for the family
>Spanish terms for mechanics
>Italian terms for chemical components
>sudden jive outburst
Just to make it utterly confusing.
She can actually morph items onto herself, like Jake the Dog. But it takes far too much energy. It's much easier to just change size of things.
So she has a reactive costume under her normal clothing that grows and shrinks with her.
I'm such a sucker for these background nods...
He's white Hispanic; half-white, half-Mexican. Still, functionally white in much the same way Wentworth Miller is, in that race for most people pertains to what they're perceived to be rather than what they are. Hispanic isn't a race, it's an ethno-linguistic designation. You get Latin Hispanics, Caucasian Hispanics, Afro-Hispanics etc.
Pic related is a white Hispanic. So are Cameron Diaz and Rosario Dawson. They come in varieties.
This isn't a particularly serious book, I doubt it would venture into that stuff.
Never. And no.
She is not a mouthpiece for political opinion.
Maybe one day she will have to say a word or two to someone at the mosque, but that will be the extent of that.
Her imam is chill as it gets and a worldly man, if with a mind for tradition.
Like he has the girls behind a screen during lectures, but they are also conveniently placed so they can actually at any point leave without him noticing. Which Nakia and Kamala did at least once.
>When is she going to fight ISIS or muslim terrorists in general?
She's not the muslim police, anon. She can't fly and needs to be home by dinner, hardly good conditions for fighting terrorists.
Punisher already took care of ISIS anyways.
>gigantic nerd that makes out of date cultural references, is obsessed with vehicles and skateboarding too, I guess
>also really flexbile, doing flips and shit, but not saying anything about spiders
>every time they start saying something about who the father is they get interrupted.
I'm willing to let the rushed-in art slide for that.
That said, she took it really personal when Kaboom was ranting about Inhuman superiority, as Kamala felt it wasn't fair that the actions of a few racist assholes can make an entire ethnicity look bad (just replace "Muslim" with "Inhuman" in this case).
Robbie is a genuinely nice person, who shares themes with Kamala despite differed backgrounds.
Focus on family
Igniting change in their communities
Legacy Heroes with differing powers than their original
Robbie and Kamala art is so fucking cute
She remind anyone else of someone?
Can't say who.
Great. Now I'm shipping Punisher X Kamala.
Pakistani PAC members looking for a quick buck are smuggling heroin into New Jersey, and fighting with the Italian mafia.
The feds want to recruit the local muslims for the war on terror but doesn't give a fuck about their well being. Daeesh wants to use the drug shipping lanes to launch terrorist attacks.
Bonus: Punisher teaches Kamala the basics of CQC.
That is a glock in 9mm from a stock photo.
>ISIS does not mesh with light-hearted fun.
Neither does gentrification, but here we are.
She still won't go to war with ISIS as much as she won't go hunt Lash down.
She will pick up te trash in her hometown, but most things outside are just off-limits and not her concern.
15-19 are really good. 15 has her dicking over Kamran because he's a fucking douche and 16-19 deal with the end of the world, featuring a non-horrible Carol Danvers. And the ungrateful cunt that is Aamir. As well as several surprises.
>tfw I have to move from my apartment because rent got driven up
RICH CUNTS I LIKED HAVING NOTHING BUT MEXICAN BAKERIES AROUND I DON'T NEED A CHIPOTLES DOWN THE STREET FUCK OFF
Is that femme dyke kissing that big dyke?
This is an "Alphona-ism". It's not part of the comic, but the artist being "funny."
Sorry to intrude, but you appear to have left out a set of quotation marks in your post there, my good sir.
I honestly can't even tell if this is a legitimate four word sentence or just bait. It has gotten that bad when it comes to Marvel. Just someone acting like that they like thing must be an irony if of itself.
There was a girl who was like this back in high school. I believe she was Paki as well. And he best friend? Wore a hijab to school everyday. Was I temporary teleported to the Marvel universe as a background character?
Whoooa no no no. Yes I was. I found myself in this comic!
TO be fair, any attempt to gentrify New Jersey is doomed to failure, by the eternal nature of New Jersey - even in prehistoric times it was kind of a dump and its people ridiculed by the surrounding native american tribes for being dumb asses.
Annoying girlfriend design aside I really hate when people do this in media. Bring in a lover for the character over a time skip so the readers don't have a chance to give a shit about them.
Automatically makes me hate them.
That frog has replaced Thomas Edison Bird as Kamala's arch enemy.
I lay 50/50 odds that fattie is a villain. The only doubt I have is that "Mike" is not the operative I would have used for a honey pot mission.
>Can Kamala find a way to save her city and her best friend from being mindless gentrified automatons?
Fucking Hypercrisis, I know where this is going!
>tfw I live in California
Fucking California, man
>the only refugees you ever see are all military age men
Where are all the women and children? Are syrian men just the bitchest bitch niggas in the world, or is this a trojan horse operation of massive proportions?
>>the only refugees you ever see are all military age men
>(1) Of all the Syrian refugees, 50.5% are women and 49.5% are men. (2) Seventy-five percent of Syrian refugees are women and children
One does not contradict each other. 50,5% are women, both adults and children. Then if you add the men that are children, you get 75%. Meaning only 25% of the refugees are adult men
Sorry, I happen to speak a language where generally men means men, and not boys, hence why we have separate words to distinguish them, same with women and girls but that applies to females. Also we have children which can mean boys, girls, or both.
Bloody hell a lot has changed in this
Last I read she just got done being screwed over by her wonderlover asian friend and did something with Wolverine. Now she's an Avenger
The people that can afford gentrification can only do so due to government handouts from the onset of new world colonization to approximately the 1960's.(and that's me hedging my bets for this estimation as even today there is a disproportionate bias in the system like in New Orleans where zoning laws and government grants suddenly changed so that people were not allowed to live/repair their old homes for the sake of gentrification as one example)
Gentrification is complicated thing to manage. You want enough white professionals to pay taxes to support the inner city schools and programs, but not enough so that rents rise or they get political power.
I can't find my old reference and sorting through other stuff my take too much time but I feel like firing thousands of public school teachers, removing 85% of public housing and so forth is so stupid it's like they were trying to get the former society to collapse. The stupidly disproportionate amount of renters over homeowners as you said it have to deal with the fact that all of those new regulations and aid programs are disproportionately designed to help landowners. If they were designed intelligently wouldn't they be helping the renters instead?
The handouts I mentioned in my previous post were basically free houses/land which is a significant advantage so the shadow of those old handouts is still looming there.
Eg the Headright program(50+ acres of land + tools per person for free). The homestead act of 1862. 240 million+ acres given out for free.
I should probably stop here before this turns into some long drawn out debate and draws out certain elements of 4chan we both don't want. Plus I figure it's better to agree than disagree about new orleans than accidentally start some drawn out political debate in a Kamala thread.
>ISIS wants Euriope to block their borders so that they can't allow themselves to terrorize Europe
It's like Muslims have some irresistible urge to ruin absolutely everything, and need a border in case they can't resist their psychotic urges.
*flat monotone* Oh no, they are going to ruin california this is so terrible we must stop them but we can not oh well
And a new GILF waifu is born!
Yes, Anon, the person who made the variant, Kamome Shirahama, posted it on their tumblr rather than their pixiv or twitter account.
I'm sorry if that bothers you, but I took what I assume are the proper measures of saving the file in the highest quality.
Scratch that, was posted on twitter. Now I've got no real excuse.
As a guy living in a pretty nice neighborhood that was apparently a Russian and Polish mafia ridden hellhole 20 years ago, I'm torn. I love my neighborhood--the rent's still low, but there's all sorts of cool restaurants, a brewery, groceries, and we're getting a distillery sometime next year. But...my city is segregated all to shit, racially and economically. Anytime these neighborhoods get "nicer," all the poor and different-colored people who lived through the shitty period have to move out and richer, mostly whiter kids move in. We have zero rent control laws, and even though the city mandates mixed-income housing in any new developments, it's cheaper to just nix the mixed-income housing and pay a fine than it is to risk renting to the "wrong" kind of people. So decades-old fruit markets close and a Marianos moves in.
