Now that the dust has settled, what did we really think about Big Hero 6?

And is Hiro still the best Disney Princess?

I guess that's one way you could put Hiro.
For him I would put it in his pooper
>>
I was so upset that Tadashi died and stayed died. Urgh.
>>
It was kind of unmemorable.

I kind of feel like it should have either just been Hiro and Baymax, or Tadashi's friends should have been in it much more. As it is they're in it quite a bit but ultimately feel unimportant.

So was I. I enjoyed the experience of watching the film, but I don't feel like it was very good - Tadashi died just to get him out of the way and BadGuy was just all "Hurr! I'm going to kill a bunch of other kids with absolutely no second thoughts about my plans for revenge whatsoever!"

Felt like a string of things just.. Happening because. I got a similar feeling out of Frozen Except I didn't enjoy watching Frozen.
>>
>>71137866
Hiro is the reason the movie wasn't as good as it could have been.

He was a Wesley Crusher, no one watns to see a movie all about Wesley Crusher.

>>71137938

Incorrect

Correct

>>71137948
Honestly would've preferred Tadashi main character.

Or just 90 minutes of Go Go & Aunt Cass doing whatever they do.
>>
Why do people like Tadashi so much? He's disgustingly perfect in a way I feel more insulting than it makes me want to fawn over him
>>
>>71137866
If you want to see a story about a smart but weak kid befriending a gentle giant, learning to apply his smarts to fight with his partner and eventually leading a team of his friends to save the day, then watch How to Train your Dragon.

Also one of the smart kids friends is voiced by T. J. Miller
>>
>>71138020
I can never watch anything where Jay Baruchel voices more than one or two lines.
>>
It was alright. As usual it was pretty decent looking. I wish there was more back story to sanfranoyko (pretty sure that was the name) Stan lee cameo was funny. I mean yeah the gentle giant thing like the anon said is a timeless theme. Uh to the anons saying that they would have rather had tadashi alive, I think it would have personally ruined it. I kind of like the story they pulled out, but the last fight was just a bit anti climatic, only thing that saved it was the voyage to the pocket demension/space time.

Overall it could have been better, and yes guys there is plenty of porn out there we didn't need more cheesecake.
>>
the porn is the only memorable thing.
>>
>>71138053
Really? Httyd is great. I was surprised when I first saw it, I thought it was going to be another one off cheap 3D movie. I was totally taken in by it's writing and characterization. Hiccup's relationship with his father is alone is plenty of story, but they managed sufficient world building on isolated little island it felt so well developed.

It was a tight well paced movie with great action and story.
>>
>>71137994
We only had to deal with him for a short time, he didn't wear out his welcome and premise.

As for the rest of the movie, incredibly forgettable except for the city itself. Baymax was cool, everyone else was fairly one note. This is that kind of movie we'll have a thread on in five years saying 'man, remember this?' and then someone will unload their stash of Gogo pics.
>>
Too dreamworksy for me, it's a very typical example of a mainstream American animated movie from this period.
Baymax's animation was real cool though
>>
>>71138110
I saw it once, but never again. His screechy voice is just too much for me. Other than that the movie was fine though. And I probably would've watched the sequel if they changed VAs.
>>
>>71137866
Where's my series Disney? I don't want no sequel, not that I wouldn't mind one but all those episode discussions when the movie was released were so fun.

Good enough. Could be better, but I don't judge works by what they don't deliver.

Script was a bit aimless, never really got Hiro's emotional state or motivation as it seemed to change for whatever the movie needed, the support characters were far more interesting but totally ignored, Tadashi's death felt rushed and more than a little silly, and the heroes finding a way out of their predicaments because Hiro said to "look for another angle" almost completely broke the tension in the final showdown scene.

The animation was top-notch and the light scenes were great.

It was ok.

It had some great jokes and art direction, but everything about it felt forced and inhumane, Hiro was an awful protagonist, the writers should have taken more liberties with the source material so that each of the six MCs had an equal role in the grand scheme of things, and any genuine emotional moments it tried to have felt flaccid.

Good movie, but Tadashi's death was handled terribly, they couldn't decide if the villain was a badass unstoppable revenge force or a tragic villain and he ended up not that good as a character.

The plot was pretty confused too about what it was trying to do, anyway I really liked the techno/sci-fi setting (at least in the first part).
>>
The final battle was good too, but yeah the supporting cast could've been explored more.
>>
It was okay.

The friends weren't fleshed out at all. The villain's motive was pretty dull.

Basically a not very memorable origin story. That's all it was.
>>
>>71140121
The villain could've been tragic or they could just leave him a badass terrorist. He ended up as neither and was dull as a result.

This. Though neither deserved an Oscar.

Can't get too upset about them winning, though: Oscars for animated films are frauds (as is the rest of the Oscars), completely based in which has been the most hyped movie, because the judges don't even watch all the nominees.

This movie taught me that no matter what I create, it will be used to make weapons.

Also, they just left a doomsday kung-fu murder robot drifting in the Stygian abyss, I hope that comes back to bite them at some point.
>>
do people think that this was actually the best animated movie of 2014?
>>
>>71144334
no, that goes to spongebob
>>
Was pretty good.

Having a villain use something the MC created made him oddly nonthreatening ("why doesn't he just make more of it?").

The rest of the team isn't really enough sportlight. They're there to show off their weapons once then just randomly stay busy whilst the MC does most of the work.
>>
The whole movie felt like a setup for the actual story. I only have another /co/ thread as a citation, but apparently the BH6 staff are holding off on a sequel until they get a story that they want to tell. I hope that happens sooner than later.
>>
>>71137921

It was retarded to have his brother die. It removed an interesting character for no real emotional return. Tadashi's death didn't feel like a heroic sacrifice, it was so painfully obvious that he was going to die if he ran in the building, that it was more like a suicide than a selfless act.

>"Tadashi's, don't go!"
>"I have to Hiro!"
>"What the fuck are you going to do, run through the walls of fire pouring from the building? You're going to burn alive on the way up the stairs, let alone inside the building, aren't you a fucking scientist or something?"

Yea that kinda removed some of the pathos. Building already being a towering inferno and all. Now if there seemed to be some hope and the damned thing just exploded, then yea.

Really cliché and predictable. The scene where Hiro first starts flying on Baymax was overindulgent and tiresome, and the way the team improved dramatically between the first and second fight was pretty bullshit. The first time they face Professor Kabuki Mask, they're stumbling over one another and eat shit. The second time, like two hours later without any practice or additional training, they're in perfect synergy.
>>
Did Hiro's suit have any special abilities built into it or was it just a flight suit for the purposes of looking cool while clinging onto Baymax?
>>
>>71137944
>Tadashi died just to get him out of the way
No he died to setup Hiro becoming reclusive and opening up to Baymax as a surrogate brother. Tadashi dying was pretty key to the plot. Also I'm pretty sure the badguy's second thoughts happened during the years he was scheming or the weeks after killing Tadashi. I buy a dad going too deep into the rabbit hole after your daughter gets sucked into another dimension in front of you.

I didn't care for the movie either but your arguments are a line of crap.

>>71149658

>>71137866
It was really bad. I was kind of tolerably bored for most of it, but it wasn't until the end where every single character had to unironically fling out a terrible quip or two that I realised how much I was hating it.

The tender moment at the end was also spoiled bcause, duh, obviously the robot was going to be revived, and anyway why didn't he just shoot his hand in the other direction to send them both outside? There didn't seem to be much friction there, and he's supposed to be some sort of super scientist.

First series of the new famous studio Trigger.
It's not going anywhere soon, just like TTGL or P&S
>>
It was kinda lacking. I wouldn't say bad, but mostly it just kinda felt unnecessary and empty. Too many characters who don't get fleshed out, just to form a team which at the conclusion no longer has a problem to fight against.

Well, admittedly there was a problem with a guy using advanced technology to take the law into his own hands, but they solve it by using advanced technology to take the law into their own hands. And all said technology will no longer be helping the world as originally intended, only serving to make those individuals into superheroes.

It's a confusing moral.
