Enjoy.
thanks
>>69209833
oh Guy, you don't mean that!
first time reading rebirth
>>69209846
>just want you to know you still have friends
;_;
>>69209888
Before his redesigned symbol and costume.
He looks like a fucking Airbender.
>>69209937
>Deathbending
>>69209923
>>69209939
nice entrance
>>69209978
oh oliver
>>69209978
>>69209956
Hal did Blackest Night.
>>69210120
fuck you, Batman
favorite part is coming up soon
Alright, I'm kind of in the middle of something so I need to take a quick break. Do you guys want issue 2?
>>69210178
hell yeah go ahead and take your break
>>69210178
yes please
I forget, had Jade already cheated on Kyle by this time?
I wish we could have seen Alan's reaction to learning about it.
>>69210478
>I forget, had Jade already cheated on Kyle by this time?
yeah it happened a few months before Rebirth
>>69210478
>I wish we could have seen Alan's reaction to learning about it.
It was never depicted, only that after Jade had died Alan said that Kyle would always be family to him.
>>69210478
Yeah, I'm pretty sure she had. That's why he had been in space (hence the ship crash). I honestly can't remember if Alan knew or if he cared. It's been awhile since I've read it. Maybe if things calm down I'll do a 90s GL Story Time. I was doing Warrior this Summer, but wound up moving away and it got thrown to the wayside.
The Spectacular Issue #2!
>>69210776
>>69210787
babby Hal ;_;
>>69210903
>>69210917
>>69210929
fuck yeah
GL Guy best Guy
>>69210964
yay Kilowog!
And that's issue #2. Gimme a sec and I'll put up #3.
>>69210997
thanks
>>69210997
it's kind of a shame, I really like the Parallax armor, moreso than Hal's usual uniform.
>>69211057
yeah I really like the Parallax outfit
shame there wasn't really a way he could use it regularly because of the connotations that go with it
at least Sinestro is using it
>>69211073
which isn't much better.
It's a shame it can't be seen without the inhuman grin these days.
Definitely my favorite cover of the series.
>>69211091
well, there is the convergence mini coming up
>>69211228
Do you know who's writing that? I haven't been keeping up lately.
>>69211249
Bedard is writing it
when did Hal first appear with gray-streaked hair anyway?
I may have to check it out. My preferred LCS is in my hometown and I don't know when I'll be able to get back there. Guess there's always the Win'O'Thread
>>69211272
I THINK it was GL v3 #1 in 1990
>>69211272
I think it was around around 1991. At first it was just to make him look more "distinguished".
It was around the time of The Death and Return of Superman, since the Mongol Coast City thing was a tie-in for both series.
>>69211295
I'm kind of tentatively looking forward to it, I don't quite trust it not to be another round of shitting on Hal for old time's sake
>>69211319
it was pretty weird because they aged him and Ollie up but almost nobody else aged as much as they did, so you had weird stuff like John being SUPER young compared to Hal and him calling Carol "kiddo"
>>69211356
Which is weird, since it was established forever that he and Carol grew up together. I definitely did not remember the age gap with him and John though.
>>69211272
>>69211319
Hal first got the white stripes in Green Lantern Vol. 3 #1 of 1990. It was during Gerard Jones relaunch of the book.
>>69211351
>Broome
teehee
little nods like that always make me smile
>>69211393
they actually established the age gap with John before they gave him the white streaks
I don't recall the issue but Hal says the reason Abin Sur's ring only picked out him and Guy at first was because John was only twelve at the time
>>69211397
also weird because action comics weekly was running concurrently with the GL relaunch wasn't it? but he didn't have them there and they didn't write him like he was middle aged in that either
>>69211397
Thanks Anon. I have that run and will consider doing a storytime later on for fun.
>>69211428
Was John aged up then? He always seemed much older to me.
I don't remember if it was ever established at that Hal got the ring. Would have to be 18+ if he's an airman.
>>69211428
>also weird because action comics weekly was running concurrently with the GL relaunch wasn't it? but he didn't have them there and they didn't write him like he was middle aged in that either
I believe there is a few month gap, but yes it was. Which led to the fan theory of the time that Hal, now with Lord Malvolio's ring, is what caused his hair to go white.
>>69211431
No problem. The Road Back is a great story.
>>69211471
>Was John aged up then? He always seemed much older to me.
yeah
I dunno if it was addressed before Johns, but John had a little cameo in Secret Origin so they ended up much closer in age
I don't think they've ever put a concrete age on how old Hal was when he got the ring, which is probably a good thing
>>69211474
>now with Lord Malvolio's ring
oh yeah, they never brought that up again did they?
Priest used him in his GL novels, though, but he didn't come up in any comics stuff again
>>69211474
>Lord Malvolio
I didn't know about this character before, looks like Alan Scott on his worst days
>>69211511
I guess it doesn't matter since the universe exists in a floating timeline anyway. If it matters, I always thought of Hal being in his mid-late 30s with John being closer to 40.
>>69211535
Kek.
>>69211530
Nope, never mentioned outside of those three. Another popular theory before Rebirth was that Hal went insane because he was being influenced/controlled by Lord Malvolio.
>>69211535
From what I hear, there were plans to later address what that was. But nothing developed.
>>69211549
yeah it doesn't really matter
it also takes like almost a decade to become an Air Force pilot so there's no point on putting an actual age on him
>>69211574
>that second panel
jesus christ
Issue #4 incoming.
>>69211622
Now he's all buff and has a normal shaped head.
>>69211622
This is pretty much the last time Sinestro looked so goofy, isn't it? He keeps getting more normal lookingand hotterafter this
I remember when I first read this, being an idiot, thinking that Hector Hammond some how got a yellow ring. Sinestro is drawn with varying amounts of head bulge.
>>69211628
Hey, he's been buff before!
You know... that time he possessed a car and drove it around Christine-style committing crimes?
>>69211659
Based Doiby Dickles should have kicked his shit in!
>>69211645
>Sinestro is pink Hammond
>Krona is blue Sinestro
three bulgey villains with mustaches is too many
>>69211622
Man, remember when Sinestro looked like a fucking weirdo?
>>69211622
I always did prefer Sinestro's classic costume to the Sinestro corp uniform.
>>69211676
He was too busy being married to a space princess, I think
>>69211645
Yup. He went from Twink Vincent Price>Hitler Vincent Price>Handsome Vincent Price>Swole Vincent Price
>>69211686
I love your work Alex Ross.
>>69211716
Someone should get that timeline going.
>>69211723
I think this is the exact page where Johns' romantic epic really begins
>>69211758
>The lanterns will never be drawn with this kind of specific Lantern energy again.
Fuck.
>>69211782
why not?
>>69211782
yeah, I like how EVS draws John's construct things all boxy
>>69211787
Favorite page coming up...
>>69211782
Ethan Van Sciver and Prentis Rollins were a hell of a team.
>>69211802
Most artists are lazy and can't even do constructs that aren't bubbles and beams.
>>69211819
Don't forget Moose Bauman on colors. Dan DiDio personally had him fired though. That was a fun time on Geoff Johns forum the comic bloc.
>>69211829
yay Ollie!
although holy shit, it went all the way through his chest and he didn't bat an eye
>>69211841
I've never heard that story. What happened?
>>69211776
I always loved this splash page. That's nearly every heavy hitter in DC's lineup. For anybody LESS than the Spectre/Parallax, this is a 'shit your pants and surrender' moment.
>>69211846
god that stupid mouth.
>>69211864
It's a good one, but I think the one in SCW is even better
Be right back a second. Two issues left.
>>69211899
oh god oh god
>>69211910
FUCK YEAH
>>69211910
When exactly did Hal's uniform stop adding green to the pelvis?
I know he started out with the green off his shoulders, which looked strange, then the green was added to his shoulders
>>69211935
This IS the first time his costume got rid of the leotard
Even his Spectre costume still had it
>>69211855
Apparently Moose was having problems with getting paid and when he did there were issues with proper payment. He took it up with the editor who said his hands were tied. Well, Moose took it up with DiDio personally and according to him DiDio said that he'd been fired a few months prior and he should have been told. Geoff claimed he knew nothing about it and said he would try to help. Nothing came of it and Moose ended up doing freelance for Marvel and eventually due to his wife's cancer and his own ailments, he sort of disappeared. He does colors every now and then, but he's mostly working in some office job last I heard.
All of this unfolded on the Comic Bloc, before Geoff Johns abandoned it and had his name taken off the site. To this day no one knows why DiDio had him fired or why Geoff let his boy down. It's pretty sad. I remember the thread that Moose made to beg for donations for his wifes cancer fund. I ended up kicking up 300 bucks because the guy really needed it.
>>69211960
Oh wow, that is pretty sad
>>69211960
Holy shit. That's a hell of a bummer.
>>69211973
>>69211990
As far as I'm concerned he's the best colorist GL ever had. He started during Winnicks run and kept the flame alive. Guy was a real pro and no one since has been able to capture the soft yet powerful feel of emerald energy since.
>>69212010
Yeah, the way he colours the energy is really vibrant, suits GL perfectly
>>69212003
Venditti should see this page
>>69212010
I will definitely have to check his stuff out.
>>69211813
>>69211829
And there it is.
>>69212003
>translate
So Sinestro doesn't REALLY speak english then.
>>69212010
More on Winnick's run, the Alex Nero saga was in that one. I loved the art for that. I never realized that's who it was.
>>69212048
I like how Johns came back to this scene in Secret Origin
>>69212072
They probably don't speak English on Korugar, anon
>>69212072
The ring has a built in translator.
Though I suppose there's always the chance that Korugarian sounds identical to English, hah.
>>69212087
I could have sworn non-lanterns could understand Sinestro though.
>>69212100
I think the translating function translates for everybody in the vicinity, not just the people wearing rings
>>69212100
The ring acts as a translator and is a translator. Goes in and out.
>>69212121
I'm surprised Sinestro still has the scar from this, I would've thought they'd forget about it
>>69212121
I've always hated Kyle's second outfit.
It was a bit relieved when his third one was kinda similar to his first, but still just not the same.
>>69212147
I swear, I'm the only person who does like it. I hated the mask on his first costume. It was pretty much a crab on his face.
>>69212154
;_;
>>69210100
>Alan
Fuck Yes.
>>69212147
Part of it is the hair actually. The uniform kinda sucks, but when he puts his original on during the Sinestro Corp war, it still has his short hair and doesn't look half as good.
>>69212154
The moment when Hal and Kyle fans kind of stopped being cocks to each other.
>>69212167
I prefer it too, I don't care for the crab mask or the weird gauntlet things
>>69212193
Time for the second best moment in Rebirth.
>>69212223
You mean when Alan makes the JLA/JSA back the fuck off ?
This series is going to be 10 years old in May.
We're on the homestretch!
>>69212230
Just in time for Hal to lose his ring!
Again!
>rekt
>>69212246
Welcome back, Hal!
>>69212239
It's like nothing happened at all. :^)
>>69212255
>>69212255
based alan
>>69212255
Based Alan
>>69212255
>>69212268
Fuck Yes, you tell em Alan
>I really miss this version
>>69212255
I miss this version of Alan.
So given Jade's power is also linked to the starheart, that means her green lantern abilities are just similar but actually magic?
>>69212290
I miss these four actually being friends so much
>>69212271
>kyle flies with a construct shadow of that wooded proportion/positioning doll artists use
them details
>>69212072
Yeah, but all the other heroes speak Korugarian just fine.
>>69212291
Essentially correct at this point.
>>69212305
Kyle's constructions were always my favorite.
>>69212341
Still not that big on the projections over the emblem, just seems a bit superfluous.
>>69212353
Who did he mean by "they"?
Thanks for playing everyone. If there's a particular GL arc or issue that you want up tomorrow (or a bit later in the week depending), let me know.
>>69212404
the one this is from.
>>69212404
D'aww, oh Hal I love you
Thanks for posting, OP!
>>69212400
Good question, Manhunters maybe?
>>69212416
That's from a JSA issue, but I don't know the issue number offhand
>>69212416
Isn't that from JSA when Alan stopped calling himself Sentinel?
>>69212433
Yes
>>69212431
Rats, worth a shot though.
>>69212419
The Manhunters do make a comeback . For some reason, I keep thinking of those German-speaking Gremlins (who really do not matter).
>>69212416
I'm currently looking through my stuff now to see if I have it. Will report back. Do you know what year it's from? Will make my searching go quicker.
>>69212470
shortly Before rebirth for sure, apparently in a battle with mordru? try Green Lantern vol. 3 #110
>>69212433
Isn't the only different between Sentinel and Green Lantern Alan Scott basically tightness of clothes, a different emblem and the presence of a ring?
>>69212121
I love Kyle's costume, and the fact that they actually remembered about this scar when Sinestro started the Corps War.
so yeah... Alan's bald.
>>69212510
Definitely not that issue. #107-110 are Jade specific stories. Still digging.
>>69212416
Anon I found it! Issues #60-62, "Redemption Lost", of the JSA. It's right before Infinite Crisis.
I'm kind of sleepy, but if you want I'll put it up tomorrow.
