It's getting closer to this season's record of 2.385 (kids and fan), so hopefully this week it will be broken, but the numbers are still too far from the best episode of the series numbers-wise, The Goons with 2.719.

But on average this season has the best ratings, I would share them but those are on my old computer and I'm too lazy to make the calculations again, all I can say is that it's been getting progressively better with each passing season, mostly because the first one got hit too hard by the constant hiatuses.

Adventure Time and Regular Show, however, do better with merchandise. The DVDs sold very well, which prompted Cartoon Network to release season sets loaded with features. Gumball's DVDs sold so poorly that they didn't even bother releasing season two on DVD. When they go to Comic Cons, they don't take the Gumball crew or show off Gumball episodes. People don't dress up as Gumball characters.

Gumball is a throwback to Cartoon Network's yesteryear. It has more in common with Chowder and Flapjack than Adventure Time and Regular Show. Perhaps that's what kids want, per the ratings, but it doesn't make a ton of money.

I would argue it's because, artstyle aside, Season One wasn't particularly good. I enjoyed it, but it relied too much on the main characters being retarded and abused for me to be fully comfortable. There's only a couple episodes I'll go back and watch.

Also, I'd argue that Regular Show is a bit of a throwback. You take the character dynamics from Two Stupid Dogs and the style and humor of Johnny Bravo, combine them, and set them in the present day.

That's partly because the merchandise line from Gumball was pure, utter garbage, so on that regard it's partly CN's fault.

As for the DVD, back then the show hadn't really took off and was actually on the brink of cancellation, if they dared to release a new DVD/Bluray nowadays it would be a fair comparison.

I won't deny Gumball has been the underdog for the past years, but it's rising while the other two old CN titans are sinking, so it's closing in on getting the recognition it deserves.

I don't see how a pet fish attaining sapience needs to be some grand philosophical quandary. If anything the only reason why Darwin is still listed as a pet is not because of some legal barrier, but because Richard was too lazy and/or broke to ever file the paperwork. But everyone treats him as a person anyway, so they never had to bother.

The special could be about the consequences of that finally catches up and they need to rush to get it done. Like Darwin gets seriously hurt and they need to get him legally recognized as a person otherwise the hospital will just flush him down the toilet. Then we get to see how the hell he grew his legs via flashbacks.

I think that's the one thing I really loved about Penny from the beginning, the "doesn't care about spaghetti spilling" part.
