No idea why these specific changes were made, but I do want to share this observation. Cartoons are very much group products, and other people will have a say, even when they shouldn't. This is an industry where a lot of people make changes for the sake of making changes. Like the child who clumsily pours too many chocolate chips into the cookie dough just so she could boast that she helped, many higher-ups seek to leave their mark this way, even when it's completely unnecessary.

I wasn't really talking about the donators affecting the design. That would just be simple pandering. Rather, I'm referring to the need of some within the studio to constantly justify their positions through meddling and tweaking. It's just very rare, at least in the west, for the final cartoon to be the completely unfiltered vision of the creator.

No, because too much money is required to make a cartoon show. Commercialism is often the death of artistic integrity, because when you need to play with other people's money, you need to follow their rules.

If you want cartoons that are honest and unafraid, then you need cheap cartoons. Anime is cheap, but in all the right ways. They're cheap enough that studios can form committees and self-finance their productions, and then buy time slots from any TV station with the air time to sell. They'll still produce mostly pandering garbage, but they also produce truly authentic works often enough to make it all worthwhile.

Here, it's too expensive to make an independent cartoon, and the major networks owned by 3 or 4 media empires still call the shots in the end. If they don't want to fund you and air your show, there's not much you can do.

Symbiotic Titan felt so fresh as a show when it first came on CN, finally a serious show about a galactic war that falls to earth with serious characters and tone. A show that was gonna be this grand adventure.

Cancelled...Cancelled after one season because it didn't do well enough. All because people wanted more AT, more the same ol thing of episodes that mean nothing, were mostly nothing, but people grasping at straws at some substance as a compensation.

What a fantastic set up of lore and characters. Every episode feels fresh and inviting and the cast of characters is just welcomed with each second they are on screen. Meanwhile with AT I feel like I'm watching a show made for socially akward hipsters, that panders to that demographic, It's writing is just "how many meme jokes can we spew?" Every line feels like it's selling me a t shirt slogan. And it's just try hard many times in it's writing......

While Gravity Falls and Symbiotic Titan had plots and depth, AT and Steven Universe panders to ADD flashy scenes and flashy characters with no depth.

I can't count how many times AT missed an oppourtunity to be something.

That whole mis take on how to deal with the Ice King finally gaining back his sanity, that whole missed oppourtunity to show Jake as a dad, Finn and his GF issues, holy fucking shit Finn you retarded piece of shit at like a human being for once..I could really go on with the flaws..
