Last week I started storytiming Gotham Academy as we head into the final issue next month. This week we’ll start with the Robin War tie-in, and then continue with Gotham Academy: Yearbook. This is a filler arc which features various vignettes ranging from fun to not great. But it’s still worth a read, so I hope you’ll join me.
If you’d like to read at your own pace, I’ve also uploaded the whole series to Mega: https://mega.nz/#F!8551hAiJ!0D8WYdv9LoosrQlAK2amng
Or, if you prefer Mediafire: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/mvw6aocm4pba2/Gotham_Academy

What did Bob Kane actually do? Was it really just vague ideas given to ghost creators or did he ever do any actual work?
>>94065564
kane made joker, even if it was derogatory of other work, he also wrote several stories as well.
He's still a plagiarising hack but he did put some effort in.
It wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't so smug however, and then claim creation out of others ideas (Like Arkham Asylum or Robin). If you don't know about the Steranko story, then look it up, fucker gets a good smacking.
That said, the wing idea for batman came from some horror novel, not Da Vinci. He also drew the finalised design for batman, so i don't know why the writer is going with the preliminary one here.
At the end of the day, batman started in a few early issues as a Shadow rip off before turning into a Dick Tracy rip off for the next 15 or so years.

>kane made joker
What, no. Even Kane himself admitted that was mostly Jerry Robinson and Finger.
I always thought the Kane hate was exaggerated like the Stan Lee hate, but the more research I did into the subject, the more it seemed like Kane was never even slightly good.
His entire career was a scam from the beginning. That was why he was struggling so much with the design of Batman, he was desperately trying to make something that would be a big hit that he could slap his meticulously practiced signature on. He was hiring other people to do his art even when he was basically nameless. It was all just a big attempt at making a "brand" like Eisner & Iger.
The guy started by trying to copy Eisner & Iger, then after Superman he tried to copy the mystery man genre. Templeton's comic up there is pretty accurate as to what Kane's general idea for the character was: just a guy in a costume with a dumb gimmick, nothing else.
Finger's additions were absolutely derivative of the Shadow, Dick Tracy and the other dime a dozen detectives of the time, but they were still at least coming from some kind of creative spark and desire to tell a story, not just to make something he could turn into a brand.
Kane is probably one of the only successful creators in all of comics history who legitimately does not deserve any degree of credit. He did literally nothing except have the idea for a bat-themed mystery man.
Though I suppose he may be one of the first people ever to see the inherent financial potential in superheroes as a brand rather than cheap strip characters.

my mistake
>Though I suppose he may be one of the first people ever to see the inherent financial potential in superheroes as a brand rather than cheap strip characters.
Actually i think this was around the time Shadow, the phantom and Tracy were in their heyday, like a similar kind of national buzz batman received in the 60's and 90's where his face was printed on all types of consumable media.
I know at least Chester Gould (Tracey creator) died a very rich man due to the character popularity in the 40's.
Monsters VS Aliens.
Did /co/ liked it?
>>94065376
I thought the giant lady was hot. Don't really remember much else.
>>94065376
Well, I obviously liked the giant girl.
Don't remember much about her alien friends though, I don't think they had much character.
The villain was kinda cool too.
>>94065468
>Don't remember much about her alien friends though, I don't think they had much character.
Or were they monsters? Yeah, probably that. I haven't seen the movie since it came out.
>that time when homer invented lean
>Homer mixed eight types of liquors together (including tequila, Crème de menthe, and some kind of schnapps), and then, while not paying attention, he mixed in some Krusty-Brand cough syrup
Am I too late to fall for Feral Frankie Foster?
>>94065316
Get in line, it's a long one.
>>94065316
I wouldn't get too comfortable if I were you. She's part of a major fujoshi fanbase
getting the obvious one out of the way

I like that show regardless of the memes.
I can't hate any character more than her.
Today's the day! The Massive Hall H Marvel Studios panel is happening tonight. Expectations?
>>94065148
Shitty /tv/ movies mostly likely.
Carol!!
Hopefully they actually release more trailers. So far only The Defenders was snown.
So when does this pick up? The first episode was kind of hilarious, but going onto Episode 7 here and maybe the humor has gotten worse?.. I am assuming once Toffee shows things begin to click a little more, but eh, it's almost the end of Season 1 and I haven't been enjoying it as much as I thought I would.
Why, I do believe it's time for some early Silver Age comics!
But enough about me, how's your weekend shaping up?
Only a little Curt Swan for you today - there is method in my madness.
How come anybody likes this trash?
>main villain's sole motivation is to... expand the anti-matter universe? Seriously?
>bunch of characters that nobody cares about gets tons of unnecessary protagonism
>75% of the facial expressions are just variants of Munch's The Scream
>The Anti-Monitor needed Psycho Pirate, except he actually didn't
>characters spend a great deal of time explaining on what is happening on the drawings for no need, and have annoying, even cringy internal monologues (although that was common practice on the comics in the 80s, Chris Claremont did a much better job in X-Men)
>that whole scene between Kamandi and Solovar, when Solovar is dying and Kamandi acts like he has been his greatest friend and mentor in his life
>the New Panther subplot
Seriously, that whole thing was a mess. Secret Wars did a much better job. The best things of Crisis On Infinite Earths were Lex Luthor, Brainiac and Darkseid's cameo
I'm sorry you hate fun.
>>94064856
That wasn't fun! 80% of it is mass genocide, and the rest are the heroes crying about ir
Better than Secret Trash or any marvel event.
Spoydermin is the wurst hero. He cunt even fli. I bet souperman would win.
Fuck yeah souperman.
