The faces in panels 3 and 6 infuriate me. This is a much more down-to-earth scene and Zack can't resist le wacky contorted faces instead of a more sensible expression.

I mean they're great when they're used appropriately. But this just feels patronising, like Zack thinks his readers are too fickle to endure a single page without over the top expressions or wacky humour. I dunno, maybe he's right.

Yeah, it's just kind of disappointing since Zack doesn't know how to set the tone anymore. This is clearly a scene that calls for a little mello-drama, but the cartoony faces really just stick out too much.

I think it's more irritating because it's in stark contrast to the other panels, which ARE appropriate. It'd be easier to write the whole thing off if it was just shit, but this is just like flecks of shit on an otherwise tasty meal.

Wilson writes her best (since, you know, she CREATED her), and the team appearances are all done by different authors. I'll admit post Secret Wars the arcs have been falling a bit short, but Kamala's characterization has been solid.

She's basically millennial Peter Parker when he first started out. She's a good kid but still doesnt know a few things, so she makes mistakes and fucks things up from time to time. Most anons think that made her less likable, but I enjoy seeing her fuck up and trying to make things right later on.

Also am I the only one who found the whole lesbian likes her best friend sub-plot absolutely adorable?

She's a good character when being written by the woman that conceptualized her. When put in the hands of white writers (pretty much everyone else at marvel,) she becomes a mouthpiece for their politics, which is formed from a childish outside perspective rather than her own experiences and resulting beliefs.
