Comfy and fun read.
>>
It's not as bad as people make it out to be.
It's just completely bland.
Leth is trying to write a slice-of-life manga set in the Marvel universe, but it's devoid of charm.

I am happy and surprised that Patsy's friendship with Valkyrie was remembered, though.

christopher priest's deathstroke is going to be the most slept on rebirth book. Been rereading black panther and holy shit its got everything. nuance, action, a sense of humor, character development, political intrigue, etc.

I fully expect this to be the sleeper hit of rebirth

Yep, fully agreeing with you. My critics go to Slade's costume and sword. Yeah, I know it's his OG sword and all but it looks goofy.

well green arrow is fantastic so far
batman needs time to build because king always starts off small and builds into something larger

wonder woman so far, and I'll get hate for this because for some rucka is sacred, but his wonder woman stuff so far is just off. first issue is him saying fuck you to azzarello, and the second/first issue is nauseatingly repetitive.

another book I didn't really like was Aquaman rebirth. 20 pages of them trying to justify why aquaman is cool in a really on the nose manner without showing me aquaman doing any cool things. its fucking stupid. first regular issue was okay i'm just sick of stories being manta or ocean master ya know?

I like how this cartoon has such a relaxed feel. It's like Adventure Time with less tryhard hipsterness and more innocence.

The theme is so calm and has more of a melody than Adventure Time's. It seems like everyone who calls this a rip off has not actually watched the series because it does stand pretty far from Adventure Time. It's pretty original actually. I would say it was influenced by the show, it didn't rip it off.
>>
>>84022669
it's what adventure time could and should have been
>>
>>84022540
it is a sweet little cartoon. i love it.
>>84022669
ehh.. it's not plagiarism but it is still a knockoff. nothing wrong with that though. not automatically, and CERTAINLY not in this case.
i like it because i can't get enough adventure time so i'm more than happy to watch an alternate chinese version with all of the appeal.
it's also funny the subtle ways it differs. like, lucky is definitely the older brother in a traditional asian way. he's calmer, he's right, he's in charge. not a bumbler like most older male role models in western media have to be in order to not just be boringly overcompetent

get out your tinfoil ladies and gents

i've been pretty tired of "theories" explaining nothing, and instead pointing out obvious metaphor (ROY = MEDIA) that I don't necessarily even agree with. here are my personal thoughts.

bear with me here. this one's a multi-parter:

Assumptions I'm allowing myself:

In the DHMIS universe:

>Time is not linear, to the point of near meaninglessness

Evidence:

>June 19th ad nauseum
>clock in DHMIS2 is very insistent on the fact that time IS linear; teaching puppets have been shown numerous times to give bad info
>wanted poster of Yellow in the past looks like yellow presently
>1955 photo of the gang does not look any younger
>various anachronisms (technology from the late 90's - early 2000's)

>"reality" is fluid, flimsy; furthermore, there are layers to the reality of DHMIS qua dreams within dreams

evidence:

>oneirataxia, dreams within dreams (esp. DHMIS6)
>DHMIS 2's reality takes place in a TV show with no apparent cut, yet an eyeball remains on the floor, i.e. events that "have not actually happened" (for whatever that's worth i.e. little to none) still have effect on the "real world" (the eye on the floor)
>the anthropic is equated with subreality (DHMIS 4, when Red stumbles onto the set, "human" or "real" figures (man in morph suit, actual duck) are actors or props, while puppets (the camera) are more "real" in the reality of DHMIS
>Red's phone calls during DHMIS5
>all of DHMIS6
31 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
>>84022431

So, here are the (admittedly flimsy) conclusions I'm allowing myself to draw from those assumptions

>In DHMIS, passing between layers of reality is possible, and usually achieved through some form of torture

DHMIS2 having taken place inside a television show, DHMIS4 red stumbling onto the "set" "kills" him and brings him to the next layer of reality, where he calls Duck in DHMIS5, bringing him (duck) to the next layer of reality, where he (duck) is being eaten in a hospital.

>Roy and Yellow guy are one in the same

Truly, whether Roy is Yellow's father or "future-yellow" is not an important distinction for me. What's important is that Roy takes the role of father (Father's day being a key date, fatherhood being a motif) to Yellow, and the exploration of what a father figure is: disciplinarian, absent, authoriarian, sadist, protector, teacher, etc. However, it's a fun theory to play with. Evidence I've found compelling in favor of Roy being "future yellow" is that aged yellow from DHMIS2 seems to take the appearance of Roy (crooked nose, stringy hair), and in DHMIS6, Yellow's eyes start to develop bags around them, similar to Roy's. Another compelling (if ultimately inconsequential) bit of subtext is this: in DHMIS2, the clock says that the future "doesn't exist", with a pictre saying "nothing". In DHMIS4, Yellow finds "nothing" behind the doors of the computer a few times. Admittedly flimsy, I know, but connecting Yellow with the idea of "the future" isn't too far off the mark IMO. If the puppets are stuck living a torturous June 19th for (weeks? years? centuries?), Roy could be the result of Yellow's repeated trauma, rather than the cause. So, what is Roy doing? Is he "good" or "evil"? I will touch on that in a moment.
>>
>>84022448
>Red's "reality" in DHMIS6 is not "true reality"

This harkens to my theory of reality being multi-layered and fluid. When Red "wakes" in 6, I postulate that this "awake" world is another dream or subreality. Let's argue by counterpoint: if Red's office reality IS reality, why does pulling the plug on the machine plunge them back into their kitchen? Red seeing Roy, his microphone and boom-box turning into a puppet, and the lacunae leading to the discovery of the "machine room" are all evidence that Red is simply in another dream. So, the questions: does the computer "exist", and what did unplugging it "do"? I will touch on those in a moment.

What if Phineas and Ferb came out in 1995 on Nickelodeon like it was supposed to?

I'd imagine Phineas would keep his sarcastic personality from the early episodes and there wouldn't be a song every episode.
>>
>>84022176
I think it wouldn't have been as accepted.

PnF's episodes were VERY formulaic. Moreso than any other cartoon's to my knowledge.

Nowadays it's ok because people have lower expectations/wants/desires/whatever, but back then I think it'd just be annoying to watch the same episode over and over again.

Holy shit, guess who's coming back again?

>In the tradition of the original Hard-Traveling Heroes, Green Lantern and Green Arrow, Sixpack and Dogwelder are ready to bring their allegedly socially aware brand of justice to the lands beyond Gotham City!

>After the events of ALL-STAR SECTION EIGHT, Sixpack is fighting to keep what’s left of his team together. Dogwelder has gone in search of his past, while newlyweds Bueno Excellente and Guts are dealing with some fidelity issues. Could Section Eight be done for good?

>But everything changes when a mysterious trenchcoat-wearing chain smoker offers our favorite dog enthusiast some clues about his true nature. Is Dogwelder everything he seems? Or is he meant for something greater?

stripperella was clever as fuck. i'll never understand the hate it gets. It was totally aware of what it was at every moment, and reveled in it.

most of the other recent-year stan lee stuff has just been painfully generic. i only recall two: a depressed and depressing hispanic dude with power armor, who was also a skateboarder i guess? and... uhhh a hero team of aliens crashed on earth who had to just deal with it.. but it felt NOTHING like it should have, which is a biker mice / mummies alive situation

>>
>>84021186
I don't know, I can tell all of these characters Disney or not. And I'm kind of thinking popularity of the character kind of has something to do with that.
I think a better example would be the silhouettes of similar types of characters and then see if they're still as distinctive.

As >>84018991 this retard brought up, however incorrect he may be, its an interesting point.

While it wont happen SOON, for a lot of /co/ related characters (ESPECIALLY DC properties), who's creators are long since deceased (Bill Finger & Bob Kane, Siegel & Shuster, etc.) will, at some point in our some of our lifetimes (hopefully, anyway), fall into the public domain per US copyright law.

Lets use Batman and Superman as two examples:

Bob Kane died: Nov 3rd, 1998
Bill Finger died: Jan 18th, 1974

Jerry Siegel died: Jan. 28th, 1996
Joe Shuster died: July 30th, 1992

Now, im a little fuzzy on how it works with multiple creators for a single property that are credited as such, but lets remove Finger and Shuster from the equation and go for the later deaths that matter, Siegel and Kane.

Current copyright laws mean that after a 75 year period post-creator death, the creation will fall into the public domain and be free to use by anyone, meaning that the dates in which Batman and Superman, under the current laws, will become public domain would be as follows:

Bob Kane died: Nov 3rd, 1998
- Batman PD Date: Nov 3rd, 2073

Jerry Siegel died: Jan. 28th, 1996
- Superman PD Date: Jan 28th, 2071

So while its still quite a ways away, that still means in 55 years, Superman will become free for any Joe to draw, and 57 for any Bill to Bat.

Obviously, since Stan Lee is still kicking, all of his co-creations will fall into the public domain sometime in the 2090's or so. The ones where the other party is dead by now, anyway. So Marvels a little more safe in that regard.

What are they going to do /co/? What CAN they do?

Also related: List the /co/ characters you most look forward to falling into the public domain at some point within the next 30 years.
