MAN OF STEEL (2013)
>Warner Bros Pictures greenlit the reboot in order to retain the rights to certain aspects of the character during the legal battle with the heirs of Superman's creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Several directors and writers pitched their ideas for the story, among them Mark Millar, who advocated for a six movie sage chronicling Superman's entire life from his birth to his death, tentatively directed by Matthew Vaughn.
>Millar envisioned the first movie set entirely in Krypton and ending with Kal-El's rocket ship crash-landing in Smallville, Kansas; and the final movie culminating with Superman as the last man alive, having outlived all of his loved ones, left alone in an Earth ravaged as the Sun is on the verge of going supernova, like Krypton's once did. As it becomes red, stripping Superman of his powers, Superman embraces death and perishes when the Sun explodes and consumes the Earth.
>David S. Goyer created a concept for a modern, realistic approach on Superman while mapping out the plot of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES with Christopher Nolan, who then advocated in his favor with WB, leading to Goyer being selected as the writer. Nolan's brother and collaborator Jonathan Nolan was initially expected to direct the movie, but declined as he felt the project was too risky for his directorial debut.
>Ben Affleck was approached to direct the movie, but declined.
>Matt Reeves, Duncan Jones and Jonathan Liebesman were the frontrunners to direct the movie before Zack Snyder was hired. Darren Aronofsky was in advanced talks beforehand, but WB parted ways with him because he requested to revise Goyer's draft to his liking, and it required a bigger timetable than WB could afford in order to retain the rights.
>Although Goyer is the only credited writer, Snyder's collaborator Kurt Johnstad reportedly heavily doctored the script based on Snyder's notes.
>In early drafts, the war on Krypton was longer, including a segment in which Zod besieges Jor-El's observatory with robotic hounds, which are fought off by Kelex in a massive combat exoskeleton.
>In early drafts, Zod would unleash Faora and Nam-Ek upon China and the Middle East, respectively, and they'd level entire cities as a demonstration of Zod's power.
>In early drafts, Zod would be exiled to the Phantom Zone alongside his men, but Snyder and Goyer believed that having Superman be forced to kill him would be a more effective ending as it'd evidence the origin of Superman's no-kill rule. Nolan initially objected to the idea of killing Zod, but Snyder and Goyer ultimately persuaded him.
>WB executives initially objected to the idea of Lois Lane finding out Superman's identity early as, as they believed the Lois-Clark-Superman dynamic was important to the mythos, but Goyer advocated that it be removed as it was not fitting for a modern setting.
>Rough cuts began with Clark Kent arriving at the Daily Planet and developed the narrative through three interlocked sets of flashbacks, one in Krypton, one of Clark's childhood, and one of Clark's adulthood and transformation into Superman. Audiences found this confusing, so the Krypton segments were condensed into a prologue, the childhood flashbacks were trimmed, and the narrative was made linear.
>Snyder originally envisioned an after-credits scene where a shipment of Kryptonite would be delivered to Wayne Manor, but Nolan convinced him it was unnecessary.
>Joe Manganiello, Matthew Goode, Colin O'Donoghue and Armie Hammer auditioned for the role of Superman before Henry Cavill was cast. Snyder favored Manganiello, but he couldn't commit due to scheduling conflicts with TRUE BLOOD.
>Cavill had been cast as Superman once before in SUPERMAN: FLYBY, a reboot written by J.J. Abrams and directed by McG, set to be released in 2004, that was ultimately scrapped due to creative differences between the studio and the director. The cast also included Scarlett Johansson as Lois Lane, Shia LaBeouf as Jimmy Olsen, Christopher Walken as Perry White, Robert Downey Jr. as Lex Luthor, Anthony Hopkins as Jor-El and Joel Edgerton as Ty-Zor, Superman's evil brother.
>Anne Hathaway was offered the role of Lois Lane, but declined in favor of playing Catwoman in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Emmy Rossum, Charlotte Riley, Dianna Agron, Margot Robbie, Alexis Knapp, Kaya Scodelario, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kristen Bell, Lake Bell and Mila Kunis all auditoned before the role came down to Olivia Wilde and Amy Adams, who was ultimately hired. Adams had previously auditioned for the role of Lois in SUPERMAN: FLYBY.
>Daniel Day-Lewis was heavily pursued to play Jor-El, but declined. Sean Penn and Clive Owen were also considered.
>Connie Nielsen was originally slated to play Lara Lor-Van, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts and was briefly replaced by Julia Ormond, who also dropped out, leading to Aylet Zurer being cast.
>Bruce Greenwood, Dennis Quaid, Michael Biehn and Kurt Russell were considered for Jonathan Kent before Kevin Costner was cast.
>Julianne Moore, Jodie Foster, Sela Ward and Elisabeth Shue were considered for Martha Kent before Diane Lane was cast.
>Diane Kruger, Rosamund Pike, Kate Mara and Gal Gadot were considered for Faora before Antje Traue was cast. Snyder favored Gadot, but she couldn't commit due to her pregnancy.
>Viggo Mortensen was heavily pursued to play General Zod, but declined, and Michael Shannon was cast.

Whether you hated the movie or not, this fight at the end was pure capeshit at its finest.
Never got a chance to see it. Was going to but then my dad died, and I had to help sort shit out and make sure my mom was ok.
>>84178821
No, the fight at the end was a mess of sound and noise and bright lights, interrupted by scenes of Lois being a dumbass. It was not "capeshit at its finest". Watchmen or Red Son is "capeshit at its finest". Lee and Ditko's Spider-Man is "capeshit at its finest". This is shit, and fuck you.

>Tom Cavanagh played Harrison Wells, who turned out to be Eobard Thawne
>Eobard may be a far-future variation of Edward
>Cavanagh played the titular character in sitcom Ed in the early 2000s on NBC
>pic related is the actor who plays Eobard's true form in the CW show, dressed as the Flash, in a cameo in the same sitcom
>Tom Cavanagh also hosted an educational program in 2007 and 2009 called Stories from the Vaults, in which he played himself and talked about items throughout history
>the final episode of that show was called Villains and Rogues
Hypercrisis confirmed?
>>84177680
Eobard travels to this world every once in a while with two identities. When a Flash show was in talks, he threatened the casting directors with the five finger special until he got the role of himself.
>>84177858
Makes sense. He also apparently plays other parts because he genuinely enjoys being an actor?
Holy shit
Frozen 2 is the new The IncrediblesSequel is delayed forever
It's because Disney knows the entirety of Frozen's success was based around Let it Go. They have no idea what to do to make a successful sequel short of letting Menzel scream for five minutes and hope it becomes a hit.
It's going to take a while to design Elsa's Muslim girlfriend.
>>84177658
I hope she has fire powers.
Who's a better voice for Peter Parker Josh Keaton or Chris Barnes?
Rino Ramano
>>84177612
I thought everyone hated Unlimited. Did he play Spidey in any other stuff?
