Ellis didn't kill all the characters off. He kept Battalion and Synergy alive (and they were the only two, outside of Backlash, that people gave a fuck about) and he also kept Swift alive, as Swift was a pre-Ellis character too.

But the deal with Stormwatch is this: the book was going to be canceled with issue #50 but Ellis's run was a surprise hit that they decided to relaunch the comic rather than just keep it going with the original numbering, in hopes that a new #1 would bring in new readers and boost sales.

Ellis meanwhile had stopped giving a flying fuck about the book by that point, hence why the second volume was dog shit and barely featured the cast/instead had Ellis do a stealth Midnighter/Apollo introduction mini and the three part Bleed storyline that takes place in a parallel earth.

Sales this point had tanked but Ellis was by this point leveraging his pull at Wildstorm/DC to write what became Authority so the decision was made to cancel Stormwatch. Killing off the cast in the Aliens/Wildcats one-off supposedly came about because no one at Wildstorm had the balls to tell Ellis to fuck off, as Ellis had friends within DC and DC (at the time grooming Ellis to be the next Alan Moore) was basically telling Wildstorm that whatever Ellis wanted, he should get.

And of course, it all backfires horribly on everyone in that Ellis basically abandoned Authority after 12 issues cause he got bored and thought Planetary instead was going to be his big meal ticket. And then pretty much neglected Planetary like a party girl cock chasing single mother when he realized that the fans he hated and treated like dog shit, shunned Planetary for Authority

Mickey Mouse by Romano Scarpa is REALLY good. Several dozen of them have been published in English since the 1980s. A quick search of the Inducks site sohuld should you some.

In my eyes Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go! is much more successful at creating a Voltron for the modern day, Legendary Defender.
