>episode begins with rick working on some robot in the garage, morty asks him why hes doing it and rick goes on some long monologue about how everything we do doesnt matter and there is no god, suddenly a large explosion is heard outside and a great eldritch beast is hovering above the house demanding ricks soul. Rick then panics and run with morty away into the sewers. Morty demands answers, and asks why he wants his soul if rick says souls dont exsist. Rick then tells his true life story via flashback and show him as a child being beaten by his overly strict prodestant mother and chastising him for his bible studies, fastforward a few years and he is now a struggiling inventor, who is not the super smart genius he is currently but is happily married to a wife. Fast forward some months and his wofe is on her death bed from cancer. Rick beats himself for not finding a way to prolong her life and she then dies. Angry at the universe for not making him smart enough, he makes a pact with yog sottoth for his soul to have super intellegiance. Later having gaining his newfound intellect and creating the portal gun he finds out theres a whole government made up of him and to his horror finds out that most ricks are geniuses. His worst fear of being average has come true, as even the dumb shit eating rick is special in his own way, he is the only rick in the known multiverse that is average. He then explains to morty that he always knew in the back of his mind that god was real, and the only reason he denied it is he resented god for all the bad shit and his life and was afraid of his wrath for selling his soul, and in a vain attempt he figured if he didnt believe in something hard enough, it might not actually exsist. Yog sottoth then breaks through the sewer and snaps ricks neck, taking him to the afterlife. He meets god and realizes that he frankly doesnt give a shit about what rick has done and how he feels about him, and everyone regardless of their crimes
