I'm 18 and desperately want to learn how to animate. I already fucked off my chance to go to cal arts (I decided to go to boring person college out of fear of not getting a normal boring job).
Are there any experienced animators that could graciously lend me some advice?
-how to start?
-what hardware is essential to beginners?
-practice techniques?
Keep in mind that I don't plan on making any money off of this or pursuing any jobs in animation.
Any advice that could be offered is appreciated; I hope I'm not coming off as too demanding or grating.
do you want to work in 3d or 2d? either way, you're going to want to read this.
if you want to work in 2d, you can try opentoonz. its the new ghibli software that just got made free. or if you're feeling supremely masochistic, buy a lightbox and a shitload of paper.
can you draw? do you draw? if not, START DRAWING MOTHERFUCKER. anatomy, lifedrawing, whatever.
want to work in 3d? you can do worse than blender. be warned that getting used to it first it can fuck you up for learning every other software.

Im down. I dont hate the Rogen Green Hornet, but its far from what most people wanted.
>edgy
Oh boy.
On the other hand, Green Hornet at its base has always been a noir thriller sort of thing, rather than a straight superhero story. If they give it kind of a Sin City vibe, it might work.
What did /co/ think about this?

What if Space Jam had been about Charles Barkley instead of Michael Jordan?
It's fitting that this character tends to be written with one of two different personalities, isn't it?
First we have the tragic character of more recent iterations: "Batman Annual Vol 1 14" "The Long Halloween," and of course Nolan's "The Dark Knight." This incarnation depicts Dent as a tragic and troubled figure who tries to overcome his personal demons and ultimately fails.
Then we have the more comic book villain-ey version of Two Face that was either always crazy to begin with, or always kind of an asshole. "Batman: Earth One," and Fox's "Gotham" are examples that come to mind (for this thread, let's ignore the age disparity in "Gotham": the subject is the character approach, not how shit that show was).
What does /co/ think is the best way to depict Two-Face? Are the people who prefer the crazy version just blinded by nostalgia? Does the tragic version not hold up well across multiple stories? Discuss
I don't get why all these people love the old, crazier Two-Face so much more. He's so much less interesting! I liked what they did with Dent in the Dark Knight. Just wish they hadn't killed him off so quick.
Remember One-Face?

The problem with the Tragic Two-Face is the same problem that Mr. Freeze has
Mr. Freeze is a terrific tragic villain. I'm talking about the version from Batman: TAS, by the way, not the original one that robs banks from ice cream trucks. The dead wife thing they added was a stroke of genius. The problem with this character, though, is that he's only good for one story. After the evil employer is in jail, there's no one left to enact vengeance on: Mr. Freeze has no motivation to be a villain. That last shot of him crying in his cell, his story ends there. He has no reason to go on, and no way to escape, since he can't survive outside of a sub-zero environment.
But they keep bringing him back. And every time they do, it's more retarded. He somehow gets out of his refrigerated cell, making Arkham officially the shittiest prison of all time. Then it turns out he's just a head in a jar on top of a robot body. Now, in more recent comics, they've retconned it so that the dead wife was never even real: he's just insane. It gets worse and worse, the tragedy is gone, now he's just an asshole.
The tragic version of Two-Face similarly does not fare well after multiple stories. Tragic Harvey Dent is interesting; Tragic Two-Face is not. There's nothing sympathetic about the character after his third bank robbery.
> I wish they hadn't killed him off so quick
Except they had to, because after he's Two Face there's nothing left for him to do. After he turns his back on everything he was, nobody cares anymore. It's like Macbeth if Macduff never showed up. He's just a backstabbing, blithering idiot. The crazy version is at least halfway consistent. And if you actually remember to use the good side of the coin (as not a single fucking writer has done recently) he becomes interesting again: one remembers why he became a reoccurring character in the first place

ITT: You can ban Dobson's access to the internet, or you can fire Michael Bendis and he won't be allowed to work with comics for the rest of his life, which one do you choose?
