Synergy is the biggest monkey paw that ever happened to Marvel ever. Even worse than getting Jemas/Quesada or getting rid of Shooter. The comics now are condemned to never again be creative or artistic because writers have to be more worried that some dumb fuck won't tell them to change all their story because some dumb fucking movie was announced. It's a real tragedy.
GotG is a testament to that. Not even need to talk about Bendis, just looking at what Duggan was left to work with is enough to weep.

Why does it seem that Batman has far and away more "great read" comics than any other character? Like there are dozens of "top 50 Batman stories" lists online, where most other comic character cap out at maybe 10 at most.

Marvel has a reason for everything going on. Or you can call it an out.
Starting this year and onward to 2020 marvel will have a it's usual 2 events per year. One will be a rehash of a previous event. The other will be the return of classic marvel elements.
2017: is monsters unleashed, as well as house of x ( Xavier is back but his mind is uncontrollable causing everyone to act how Xavier wants them to.....xmen all reunited and school rebounded under Xavier)
2018: Alien Assualt( every race of aliens that marvel has ever featured teams up to try and kill off captian marvel....fantastic four returns and captian marvel dies)
Hydra invasion(many heroes are revealed to be altered by the red skull...heroes become full time villains, miles kills captian America.)
2019: watcher event( the nick fury wather returns and gathers up the fantastic four, Xavier, miles Morales, and Kamala for a secret war type mission to the home of the watchers in order to ressurect uato. Uato knows of a horrible secret about what's happening to marvel. Meanwhile on earth rifts threw space time appear bringing classic versions of characters....uato resurrected. Along with 90s Cyclops and civil war captian America)
Ultimate reed event( ultimate reed Richards returns and takes the hydraized heroes to lead them killing off all time rift characters. During the fighting, the hydraized characters merge with thier time rift counterparts taking own the time rift personalities with thier modern memories and powers. Ultimate reed is revealed to be ultimate hank Pym in disguise....ultron returns)
