Why do Japanese animation directly adapt their comics, including animating the art style of it, but western shows based on comics make them more or less original? I haven't seen a show that adapted it's comic's art style from the west.
How cool would pic related of been if they adapted Kirby's art?
>Japanese animation directly adapt their comics
By working mangaka's to death but paying them next to nothing, and being immersed in a culture that sees 20 hour work days as normal.
American studios send out model sheets of what they want characters to look like from different angles, then just ship them to Korea to do all of the work as fast as possible.
>>91666746
No idea why, but in comics it's at least in part because older comics "house style" is not really as suited to adaptoin to other media, and more famous modern comics are the same way; they either use a style more suited to still panels or are too complex for regular animated series.
That said, some REALLY old cartoons took pages literally right out of comic panels and animated them.
Got my first taste of comics with those actually.
>How cool would pic related of been if they adapted Kirby's art?
Go watch the Silver Surfer animated series. It's Kirby as fuck.
>>91666746
Has more to do with the studio.
99% of Mangas keep the exact same artist/style. Comics go through artist per run

Why can't the west be more like the east and make more cartoons with overarching stories and character development instead of episodic comedies.
>>91665231
because animation is a dying trade skill in the weat
>>91665256
This. There are very few people going to school to actually learn to animate; rather, they teach for the job you're most likely to get out of school, which is digital animation for some cheap Flash cartoon.

None of this really effects the writing, which is what OP is asking about.

I loved Community for this
>Villain goes from smug, self-assured, and collected to shrieking, unhinged lunatic when the hero gets the upper hand
Why do I love this so much?
There's a lot of differences between Marvel and DC's heroes through their personalities, philosophies, stories, etc. but one aspect that doesn't seem to get a lot of attention are the costumes. Is it just me or does Marvel's heroes always have a completely different design philosophy when it comes to the costumes compared to DC? I can't really put my finger on why, though. Even Captain America, who was in the Golden Age, looks totally different from the others. Is it the saturation of colors on DC's heroes? The fact that they look so much more like costumes rather than uniforms (although that doesn't explain Wolverine and Spider-Man which have very costume-like costumes, and still don't look like they would belong in DC's world)?
Maybe it's just because I'm used to these characters not existing in the same universe at all, but I just can't help but feel like there's something totally different with them. I can believe Batman exists in the same world as Aquaman, but not Wolverine. I could even believe Spawn exists in the same world as Spider-Man, but not Cyborg. I could believe Mr. Incredible exists in the same world as Superman, but not Iron Man.
Does anybody else know what I'm talking about? They both feel so different but I can't tell why.
>>91664668
Yo dog, those cartoons still have the same designs from the comics anyways. Still look equally different.
>>91664700
thanks
Most Marvel characters were designed by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Their unique preferences and art style had a major impact on the studio, not just in the many characters they personally designed but also on what their coworkers did.
In DC the designs were created more individually by a lot of different people, so they're less consistent in design philosophy.
A lot of DC characters undergo minor revisions over the years, it's rare to see a total switch that sticks outside of examples like Flash and Green Lantern. The "new" versions though have basically stayed the same since they were created in the 50s.
