Look at this map, that I just found. This is freedom of artistic design. You would be hard pressed to find the same in Anime.

I think SU is actually one of the better ones - the characters' variable size and the QUALITY is horrible though.
But uglyness was basically one of the main reasons why I completely switched to anime in the 90s and 00s, or however that decade is called.

Sandman and Transmetropolitan are a couple big ones, though the latter's a bit excessively edgy.

You might also like the Walking Dead comics, which differ from the show. I don't personally recommend Saga, but it's another Vaughan work so you might want to check it out anyway.

Cartoon Network tried to get rid of cartoons 2007-2008, introducing live action, cancelling toonami and anime, cancelling the last of the old cartoon cartoons, etc

The plan was foiled but the brand didn't survived

Multiple reasons.

What did most(with a few exceptions) of the Cartoon Cartoons have in common? One, they started off as shorts, and kids voted on whichever one they liked best to become a full series. Two, the Cartoon cartoons started off as being animated by Hanna-Barbera, then they transferred over to digital animation when H-B was deprecated. They had similar animation styles (again with the exception of EEnE): flat, angular, 60s-esque stuff.

Codename Kids next door was the last show to premiere under the Cartoon Cartoon brand, since that was CN's last original show to be greenlit based on voting results from kids, and the last one made with some H-B involvement (they did the pilot episode). Shows like Camp Lazlo, Hi Hi Puffy amiyumi, and Class of 3000 had no business being under the Cartoon Cartoon name since those were simply CN original series made from scratch with no Hanna-Barbera connection, and the animation styles had changed.
