Yeah there are some great Thramsay fics out there but more are one offs (true, probably delete them alas) and you have the problem of too much too shit tier fic authors (certain 40 yrd olds cough) spamming up AO3 lists. Throbb does have its shit but I just find the quality is better. Maybe Thramsay is more of a visual thing and Throbb is a written thing.

All about our squid prince Theon though.

Though I have a lot of conflicting feelings about him because he's so detestable pre-Reekification, but at the same time, the reasons why he's such a prick are all pretty understandable and I just love characters who use smugness to hide the fact that they're deeply insecure. God I need the next book. I need to know how his arc resolves. It can't be as anti-climatic as becoming his sister's pet gimp like on the show. His arc is far too dramatic and meaningful for him to not be destined for something great, even if it ends up being some sort of self sacrifice, like helping Stannis and Zombie Jon take Winterfel by going back to Ramsay only to turn his cloak again to set things right. Oh what a glorious death that would be.

He wasn't really that detestable until his plans to take Winterfell were underway. God it was gut wrenching when the horror of what he's doing first starts to set in for him, and he doubles down on trying to play the role of his Greyjoy forebearers only to realize more and more that he wanted to be a Stark, but it's too late, and h just keeps trying to adapt only for his schemes to make things worse thanks to the influence of Ramsay.

It was crushing. The general cockiness before all that was just a scared boy trying to be brave, and trying to figure out where he belongs. Once he's Reek we get a better look at a gentler more sensitive soul underneath all that, and one that is still so much stronger than anyone appreciated. Ramsay cowed him but he never truly broke him. Ramsay only destroyed the lies Theon was living, and now though maimed he can rise from the death of his ego. We all know the prayer of the Drowned God, right?

I do wish he'd taken the black, though, when he had the chance. Jon could have used a talented and cunning ally, because Jon is a little to pure and honorable for the politics of the Watch and Stannis' war. But Theon didn't give Jon enough credit, he didn't expect him to be capable of forgiving what he'd done. I loved how J.R.Martin drives the point about what might have been home with Jon saying he didn't believe Theon would kill his brothers, and also thinking to himself about what a great ranger Theon would have made. Damn if that didn't make me love Jon even more. The two best boys in the series, with Tyrion following close behind. (shame Tyrion as such a shit in a Dance with Dragons. He was my pick for best boy in the first three books, no matter how ugly he is)

I'm still amazed the show managed to fuck up not only Theon's entire story, but Sansa's as well. Having her there in place of Jeyne only served to re-victimize her, replay out her season 1 arc again, undo any character development she took in season 4, and not even let Theon be the main focus in what should have been his arc. And they're continuing to just bastardize the Greyjoy's with Asha being such an unlikable bitch (sure D&D, remove any poignancy like Asha tearing up when she realizes this withered white haired cadaver she hasn't seen in ages is what remains of her brother and instead have her berate Theon for being uncomfortable around women and then tell him to kill himself if he doesn't smarten up, profound writing there) and Euron being portrayed terribly.

Feast and Dance generally show the downward spiral of the previously "good" characters (Tyrion, Arya, Daenerys, Catelyn, arguably Bran), while reframing and developing the previously more questionable ones (Jaime, Stannis, Theon, Melisandre). It's a very interesting showcase of how morally gray the entire series is.

The show has a long history of fucking up character plotlines, like Stannis, Jaime, Loras or the entire Dorne plot. The show runners just hate nuance, and since the showfags still love whatever they're churning out, they have no reason to change the formula.

Arya is pretty much completely immoral now, but unlike the real Faceless Men, she's vengeful, which is a big no-no for them. As for Bran, there are scenes where he's basically abusing Hodor for fun. He knows that his warging is traumatizing for him, but he likes exploring the cave and being able to walk, so he keeps doing it. It's casual cruelty against someone who is completely vulnerable and harmless.

Agreed, but her behavior was understandable considering her personality and priorities. Lady Stoneheart, on the other hand, is an outright monster.

Pre-Reek Theon would probably never allow himself to befriend Jon, there's just too much bitterness and stubborn pride there. I always liked how their situations are like inverses of the other though. Theon is high born, but is incredibly alienated and disliked by practically everyone in Winterfell besides Robb (the Starks disliking him is something only book readers would know, and even they somehow miss the parts where Arya, Bran, Cat, and Ned express distaste and ambivalence towards him), whereas Jon is a bastard yet is beloved and accepted by the Starks, barring Cat. The show is utter drek, but I'm kind of hoping there will be some meaningful interaction between Jon and Theon this season. Maybe they'll eventually become bros.

When Theon did that he was the only character in all of ASOIAF that I truly hated and wished bad things for, but looking back on it he was in a really bad spot between his two families where he would have been betraying someone no matter what.
I was impressed at how I hated him so much but now I just feel bad for him and want him to pull himself out of the bad spot he's in.
