Apprently this thread has "bad gifs and shitty Tumblr content." People are too small minded to appreciate any form of fan art, be it gifs or images from tumblr. I guarantee you that all the pictures posted are circulating around on tumblr. But what amuses me, is that people in /cm/ become so offended by something so minute. If you don't like what was posted, then add your own content to the thread rather than duplicating. If you don't like some of the content people post, ignore it, post your own and move on. I just don't get why people on 4chan become so easily offended?

So are Shinji and Kaworu actually gay? Or bi? I've only watched a couple of episodes in the series, but looking it up online, no one really has a definitive answer. But I noticed a lot of people shrug off any homosexual activity because they don't think of evangelion as a "gay series" or something. Not sure if it's just homophobia though.

Shinji is indisputably bi; Kaworu is almost certainly gay, given side materials stating that he has no real affinity for women. This isn't about "how you look at it"--it's the factual evidence we have of them being attracted to each other.

The original NGE was very direct on Kaworu and Shinji's attraction towards each other, yet many western fans denied it. The dub even changed some of the lines (changing Shinji's "I loved him too" to "I liked him too" or having Kaworu call Shinji "friend" in the director's cut)

Everything from interviews, the official guide books, Anno's own words, the drafts, to the episode itself proves Shinji was sexually attracted to Kaworu, the intention was to show he was in love with him. Therefore if you wanted to put a label on it that would make him bisexual or at least bicurious.
But sexuality to a 14 year old, especially one as screwed up as Shinji isn't so black-and-white.

Eh, I wouldn't call Shinji bi just because he liked Kaworu. He never showed any interest in other boys, but plenty in women. He just seemed willing to open an exception for Kaworu because it was Kaworu.
And Kaworu is only interested in Shinji, period. He'd like him even if he were a three-legged walking plate of lettuce.
Sure the ending relationship is gay, since they're both boys, but I think it's a little diminishing to reduce it to just sexuality in their case in specific.

There's evidence that he could have just loved Shinji in an "alien god" way or in an actual gay way.
The Drama CD and the spinoffs play up the latter interpretation.

Kaji is twice his age and Kensuke and Toji aren't considered "attractive" in canon. Just because he didn't show attraction to those three isn't enough proof to say he has no attraction to boys at all.
The fact that he immediately buttered up to Kaworu, a boy, just because of his cute face is enough indication that he's okay with boys, which would make him at least bicurous.
Whereas his interest in women was 98% of the time a flustered reaction to being thrown in a sexual situation.

I would call him bi, because he shows attraction to women as well as attraction to a male, and that's what bisexuality is. Each individual to whom Shinji displays attraction is considered, in canon, very beautiful. He happens to spend much more time around beautiful women than beautiful boys. Also, same sex attraction doesn't make affection less pure, noble, or beautiful. It doesn't have to be "transcendent of gender" or whatever to be a meaningful and powerful experience. To posture it that way is just your typical fujo ideology.
