Not really, it just depends on your taste. Just make sure you're using good ripe avocados. And you can't go wrong.

Fire roast the tomatoes, peppers and red onion on the grill to get a nice, smoky char before smashing.

my recipe:
1/2 large tomato
1/4 large white onion
1 large clove of garlic
1 large jalapeno
handful of cilantro (optional)
puree in a food processor with salt and pepper to taste. lightly mash in two avacados with a fork, add more salt to taste, finish with lime juice to taste.
mash wit6h a pestle and mortar. no fork, no food processor.
get plenty of citrus and black pepper and salt in there.
smoked paprika is really good in it. just enough so that people are wondering why this tastes so good.

oh and also everything apart from avocado, acid and salt is optional. i never really got why people put tomatoes and onion in it, why not just have a salsa/pico de gallo. i do like a little roasted pulped jalapeno running through it
