I'm a Brit living in New Zealand and these things just started appearing on the shelves a few weeks ago. Apparently the locals call them yams, but I've always associated sweet potatoes/kumara with the name yam.
These things are about as big as your thumb and look very waxy. What can I do with them?

You can eat them

You're shitting me??

No dude you can cook them and make food with them
They looks like fucking grubs
Cover in butter, pop them up your bum, have a wank, and forget about them.

It's gimmicky islander potatoes. Just stick with normal vegetables and you'll go far.

Boiled? Mashed?
I'll get some for an experiment this weekend but looking for pointers.

Yams taste kinda disappointing. Like kumara but without the sweet flavour. You boil them, and somehow find a way to give them a less bland flavour.

A good way to do that is not to boil them!
I either cut them up and saute them as part of a fry-up or hash, or just stick them straight into the coals of a fire.
Yams yams yams yams
