Why is Swiss cheese so god-awful? Don't deflect by using "American cheese" since we all know that American singles are as much cheese as that crud you buy in a bait shop is.

I'm what situation is Swiss ever the best choice though? Granted onion soup is almost ALWAYS topped with Swiss, but a creamier cheese (maybe provolone, or the amazing and underutilized brie) would elevate much further than that Swiss garbage. Seriously though brie tastes like pure happiness.

I don't think it's ever the BEST choice, but there are plenty of recipes where it can be delicious. Also provolone tastes like plastic, but I can agree that brie is extremely underutilized.
