They are high in protein, but their protein isn't "complete" as they say in nutrition, you need to combine them with rice or other grains to complete the protein. If you combine them, then they are just as good of a protein source as meat or dairy. This is only a problem if you do a low-carb diet which usually limits grains. Legumes are great because they are also high in fiber and vitamins.

Your gut flora depends on resistant starch (mostly found in grains and legumes) and fiber (fruit and vegetables) to stay healthy. If you cut out all carb sources, then your gut flora will suffer rather quickly and you will end up with constipation and small hard painful lumps of shit.

Therefore make sure you get enough fiber through legumes like peas or beans, this will increase your stool size and make it more fluid.
Also you should take 1 to 2 teaspoons of potato starch mixed with water every day. It needs to be cold, so don't heat the mix. Start with a low amount, or you will get flatulence.

I just try to hit my protein needs and caloric deficit. Chicken is p goat. Salads help fill you up. But overall I eat what I want just in a moderation to keep under for calories and just fuck with protein powder at the end of the day to fill my needs. Been doing good. Lost 13 lbs and doubled my squats in a month.

Fitnesspal or lose it are great apps for keeping you on track. Overestimate the calories you eat, underestimate calories you burn.
