How do you guys deal with plebs who claim to be foodies, and people with limited palates/imagination. To me it's no different than being ignorant about art or music and claiming to be an "expert".

This is funny because I recently started online dating and 1 out of every 15 profiles says they're a foodie. Im pleasantly surprised we have something in common. Food comes into conversation, what are you having for dinner? I ask. "Burger king wapper mmm can't beat that"

And these retards don't ever cook.
>>
Interests; food is a red flag.
Interests: Cooking is alright.
>>
tits or gtfo
>>
>>7228042
I can understand people not being able to afford fine dining but there are plenty of cheaper options that are still high quality. And there are so many great meals you can cook for less than you would pay in gas + meal going out. Seriously, cooking is a life skill as far as I'm concerned.
>>
>>7228052
/thread
>>
I would never date someone who defines themselves by the things they do. You like food. You are not a foody. Jay like how you ride your bike to work, but you aren't a damn cyclist
>>
>>7228052
My tits or?
>>
I ignore and disregard anyone that uses that word to describe themselves. By my experience most of them love watching Food Network garbage on exotic places to eat, seldom check out any good local independent establishments; if they do act like HUGE snobs about it, and consider regional fast food dumps or tourism board highlights 'big foodie stops' when they are out of state.
>>
>>7228053
>cooking is a life skill as far as I'm concerned.
I have no interest in this thread topic, but I wanted to reply to this anon.

They really should teach kids how to cook a simple meal of rice* and beans, and serve it in the cafeteria so their little palates enjoy it when they're older.

*Or cornbread.
>>
>>7228061

W/ timestamp

But I agree, I work as a chef and I avoid like the plague people that say they are foodies, theres very few people I know outside of the industry that know what the fuck theyre talking about, theres some old lonely geezer that comes to my work place to eat, and at the end of the night when his wife and daughter eat dessert he comes up and talks to me while im closing about the food.

The man is incredibly insightful and says he is a terrible cook at home, and shits best left to professionals, I consider that nigger a foodie, everyone else is a gook with a camera.
>>
Y'know I always thought the term foodie meant you like to try new things. I suppose the term has become ubiquitous to the point where people use it to describe anybody who likes food. Which, lets face it, we all like food. Going on casual dates to try different places with food sounds nice but I think it's one of those things you reserve for a person you can feel your money and time is well spent on, especially if your paying.
>>
>>7228053
Yep, people say you're a snob if you point out bad cheap eating habits. But stuff like chickpeas and less popular cuts of meat are delicious if you know what you're doing with them.

I do want to try Poutine though. What pleb food do you think is tasty op?
>>
>>7228061

Since you've mentioned that you're female, you must now post a picture of your breasts, or Get The Fuck Out (gtfo).

This is the penalty that is paid in return for everyone knowing that you're a female and thus that they should give you special treatment.
>>
I've been on OKC for about a year now, these things are red flags:
1. Blathering about how you love travel (protip: everyone loves travel)
2. Blathering about how you love food (see above)
3. Extremely detailed "don't message me if" notes (bitter angry cunt warning)
4. Anything along the lines of "if you can handle a real woman" (victim complex)

Family owned fine dining restaurant, owner "retired" 3 years ago, even though he still works every day, I've taken over as the cdc and basically run the joint.

The owners pretty cool, he's 66 years old but still hauls bags of potatoes like a motherfucker. We do about 500 covers a week and change the menu every 2 months(although there are some dishes I can't take off the menu since some people have been eating the same shit for 20years there).

Sure it's fun, but shallow retards act like rattling off a few recent vacation destinations is a substitute for having a personality.

Travel doesn't make you automatically cultured. Most people who consider themselves "travel aficionados" are the travel equivalent of op's shallow self-proclaimed "foodie". They visited some place full of brown people or old buildings for 2 weeks and tried european nutella or the original thai red bull, and all of a sudden they're enlightened beings too pure for this world. Just go on /trv/ for 10 minutes and you'll see exactly what I mean.
>>
>>7228085
OP here. It's hard to define pleb food so I'll just go with stuff that excludes expensive ingredients such as fois gras and filet mignon.

Carnitas is a great one I think, along with most other Mexican food, cheap cut of meat and ingredients are cheap and it's absolutely delicious if done right.

Most Italian food is cheap to make and delicious; I love spaghetti carbonara and chicken picatta.

German food is great too, pick up some cheap cuts of pork and have yourself a schnitzel with a nice jaeger sauce. I don't make the kraut myself but get it from a local German restaurant that has a store.

I discovered Belgian fries abroad and fell in love with them, fries of course are super cheap to make and you just need a bit of confidence with a fryer to do it. If you want any sauces for the fries besides classic mayo you may need sauce experience though.

Anything Cajun is delicious and promised to be cheap. People look down on it but I once had the best fried catfish of my life in an upscale restaurant in New Orleans.

Fried chicken/hot wings are cheap enough and excellent if done properly.

I'm a fan of capon personally, it's not really that popular though and a bit more expensive so not sure if it counts as pleb food, kind of on the edge.

I also make the best spinach dip, I fucking love spinach.

And of course a good burger cannot be underestimated. There was this greasy spoon back in MY hometown that made the second best burger I ever had. The first best was a fois gras burger in Monaco so that's disqualified from being pleb food on account of the fois gras.

I had poutine at this place in Canada, it was meh. May have just been the place though.

New menu every two months, wow that's hard work. I don't think that necessary even though it might keep things exciting.

How can you go with ough even mentioning the what nationality the food is based?
>>
>>7228128
I understand not liking something so hot but seriously, I can't help getting annoyed by people who can't even handle a bit of spice. It's part of the flavor spectrum and they are limiting their palate SO much by refusing to try new things or immediately thinking its ewwy.

Let's be honest, having an OKC profile is a red flag in and of itself. I made a fake account to see who was registered in my area, and the amount of people whose highest form of education was "High School" or "Some college" was appalling. Never mind the number of land whales. Their priorities are wrong.

Lose weight, get an education, and you'll start meeting a lot more healthy, happy people.

Op here. I'm asexual (have no sex drive) but still want a platonic relationship. I'm on there to specifically find other asexual people or those who are willing to have a relationship with one. We make ja/ck/ and ramen threads obviously.

Its strange that even on /ck/, almost every thread about 'fine dining' or somewhere with 2 or 3 michelin stars turns to absolute shit. A foodie seems to be anyone who likes to go and eat at some man v. food style establisment, but apparently if you enjoy spending slightly more money than that, youre an idiot who is getting conned etc etc.

Maybe it's just me, but I expect a real lover of food and travel to answer differently. So you've been to some major destinations and dined at some high end restaurants? Big whoop.

Until you've been on a road trip through the Mississippi delta and stopped at a road stand to grab a dozen hot tamales, I just won't believe you actually like to step outside your comfort zone.

As a New Orleans native, I laugh at your recommendation for catfish. You know nothing.
>>
>>7228238
Cool. If I give you some knockout drugs before we go to bed and promise no penetration will occur, or permanent marks, are you ok with that? It's just a form of cuddling.

>>
>>7228258
Yeah I actually have been to London. Only for a day though and ate at some place near the Savoy...can't remember the name but they gave me a beef Wellington with meat that had gone bad.
>>
>>7228134

We don't do a nationality based cuisine, we're primarily seafood based so you could have something such as a hawaiian poke salad next to a maritime lobster roll, with a halifax donair or a fried soft shell crab, next to a new england style clam chowder with a creole jambalaya and british fish and chips for example, we have a big raw bar where typically we make daily ceviches, friday/saturday we had a grouper ceviche with piri piri, chive, avocado, watercress and olive oil, tue/wed/thur we had a trout tiridito with lime, asian pear, sweet soy, ground chilies and a cucumber/shallot dressing.

Beyond that simple things like the fish of the day we esesentially rummage through the fridge and find something nice to use for the veg. This weekend I did a lobster broth bouiliabaisse with fingerlings, carrots, leeks, shallots and red peppers, with a hazelnut crusted wall-eye filet and a smoked paprika crostini with rouille. I'll go back on tuesday and change it again.

Seafoods pretty easy really, add fat to lobster and everyones happy, its that simple.
>>
>>7228147

She did bring up she was a woman for no reason, this usually means the comment was made for attention. It had no bearing on the shitty story.
>>
>>7228251
What's your favorite restaurant and dish then? And what's the matter with the catfish, it was truly the best catfish I've ever had, though granted I don't eat it too much.

How did you expect the answer to be different? Fois gras is my favorite dish so that already narrows it down to all the fois gras dishes I've had, and of those the peaches and cream is my favorite. R'evolution may not be the best restaurant but I've liked most of what I got there and the fois gras is unbeatable.

>>
>>7228273
I love seafood. It's probably tasty. But I've never liked the idea of restaurants that don't have a specific style. Although not nearly as much as a dislike restaurants that do nationalities and styles with their cooking. That's unforgivable.
>>
>>7228294

Well thats you, but most people like what we do because we're consistent, affordable(although you can blow your wad here if you're not careful), we make good food and we have a decent location. Open 5 days a week we tend to do 50-80 during the week days and up to 140 on the weekends, new years was hell ):
>>
>>7228294
>never liked the idea of restaurants that don't have styles
>I dislike restaurants that have styles of cooking even less

what the fuck does that mean?
>>
>>7228268
Wow that must have been a shockingly disgusting experience. The thing is, all it takes is money to open up a fancy looking restuarant in a prestigious part of London and be seen as high end. But half of these people don't know anything about food.

We should do something next time you're here.
>>
>>7228290
What if we just forget I said the stuff about permanent marks, since I think it goes without saying? Just take these pills and have a few sips of wine to relax. A relationship should be about trust, don't you trust me?
>>
>>7228286

It's more to do with your posting style. Using asterisks to denote an action, making excuses for bringing up gender (no one cares, it could have all been gender neutral in the story), are foreign to the site and come off as irritating. The problem with traveling isn't the traveling in itself. It's where people go, what people do, and why they go there.

People go to India to pretend to be spiritual. People go to Europe to pretend to be cultured. People go to South America to pretend to be charitable.

Nobody wants to go anywhere that's strange or obtuse or different or educational or interesting or some place rarely ventured to because then they wouldn't be able to tell people how cultured or spiritual or charitable they are. They want to go to a place, get drunk, see typical sight seeing landmarks, and then post all of the pictures to their facebook so everyone knows about it.

Personally, I've got a few different places on my list of places to travel: North Korea (because NK in its current state might not exist for much longer, and it'll be good to experience), Antarctica (just to see what life in the base is like), and Iceland/Greenland, because they're beautiful.

If you want to date someone you use the internet becaues it's a lot more convenient than "what do you do for a living? Nope not you. What do you do for a living? Nope not you", which is what happens when you live in an area dominated by a certain industry and the opposite sex only wants to date within that industry.
