personally I like to make chicago style popcorn. Where you make kettle corn, then cover it in cheese powder. I bought a can of dehydrated cheese powder from costco and it tastes awesome. Otherwise I'll usually lightly butter my popcorn and coat in a mix of powdered cheese, onion powder, garlic powder (spice grinder + granulated garlic), chipotle pepper powder and cayenne pepper powder.

delicious. Butter makes the mix stick, and gives a nice flavor that plain salt can't match.

Basically the corn industry tried to find a way to reinvigorate their products, especially those of a lower or out of date quality. Through around a century of incessant advertising, particularly among children, the habit of eating popcorn as a cultural icon of theatre and special occasions has stuck.
