to be completely honest

i'm gonna have to go with smirnoff. /ck/ will sperg out, but i sincerely think it's the best bang for your buck.

it's clean and smooth. i don't sense any harshness in it.

maybe, just maybe, it's incredibly popular because it's actually good.
>>
>>7125385
It's terrible senpai. There are bottom shelf vodkas that are better

Barton, popov, gran legacy, UV (unflavored), and Lux. Lux being my preferred cheap vodka as it actually taste decent comparatively, but I've only ever seen it at CVS, so I can't say for sure if it is available everywhere. Gelson's makes pretty okay cheap alcohol. Trader Joes has some good cheapish stuff too. Just go to your local supermarket and explore. Avoid liquor stores as their prices are generally +$2 more for the same thing.

I tried this stuff called Burnett's a while ago. $10 for a handle and tasted better than Smirnoff to me.

weller special reserve

it's a 90 proof bourbon from the buffalo trace distillery which I've found for <$30 in 1.75L

>>

$10 for a handle of (unflavored) Burnett's is pretty good.

It's usually the terrible flavored shit that's on sale because nobody wants it.
>>
Bacardi 151 proof is the best alcohol/dollar content available, as long as you ration it out and don't kill yourself

You can also blow fire with it which is pretty cool
>>
new amsterdam (gin and vodka) and larceny (bourbon( are pretty cheap and good
>>

>bacardi 151 proof is the best alcohol/dollar content available

Not even close.

If you don't care about being able to easily drink it straight you might as well have just said Everclear.

A bottom shelf handle of vodka will always be a better deal than either, though, and can be had straight.

I buy Thompson's for mixing. It's like 15 bucks for a handle. Not sure I'd drink it straight, but with 7-up, it's fine. It's what my grumpy old dad's been drinking for as long as I can remember.

Depending on how fucked you want to get, a 40oz might do you better.

gordon's and seagrams are decent cheap gin
>>
>>7125385
I think Smirnoff is nasty, but I can see how it might be appealing. Skol is actually better for mixing, as far as I'm concerned (not GOOD for mixing, but better than smirnoff for the price.)

I'd avoid Skyy, though. That shit is repulsive.

Your tastebuds must be literally ash at this point

Most people don't buy it for its taste on its own anyway

Castillo is a good cheap rum for mixing...16$ for a handle. Add it to cola with a splash of lime juice and you can't tell it's bottom shelf.

wild turkey 101, burnett's gin, karkhov vodka, jose cuervo silver tequila, admiral nelson 101 rum, everclear

Is Cutty Sark good? I know it's not bottom shelf but for an entry level Scotch.

If you're after vodka, I just picked up a handle (1.75l) of Fris for around 18 bucks, and it's fairly good.

Kentucky Gentleman is great for mixing
>>
Buffalo Trace and Weller have been mentioned, but there's a bottom shelf brand made from the same recipe as BT at their distillery called McAfee's Benchmark. 18 bucks a handle down here in Texas, probably cheaper elsewhere. The BT distillery is pretty great overall for value. Even the blantons is cheaper and better than other 40-50 buck a fifth Bourbons.

Castillo rum was also mentioned and I approve of that (actually drinking it now, 2 dollar wells night at my neighborhood bar), but handles of flor de cana 4 year usually aren't too much more expensive.

Vodka I go with Sobieski and Brokers for gin, but I'm not too passionate about those, just know they're cheap and drinkable.

This is decent with a couple ice cubes. My idea is 20 and less is a cheap liquor. This is around 20 bucks. It's usually good for two sessions. 10 bucks a drinking session isn't bad.

The BEST cheap liquor I've ever had was the Brandy made by E&J. This stuff tastes like it was brought down from the highest shelf and if I ever want to impress it is what I bring. The thing is they actually have three very good/well priced products and which one I brings depends on what I want to do.

What I think of E&J's VS:
This has a red label and costs about $9-$11 for the small sized bottle while the bigger sized bottle is about $10-$16. While it tastes good alone it is the stuff you'd want to cut into a cocktail. Sometimes the flavors of the other two labels work better with a specific cocktail but the VS has a strong enough profile to be noticeable/blend well with almost any brandy-based cocktail you want to make.

What I think of their VSOP:
This is their blue label and costs about $11 for the small sized bottle while the bigger sized bottle is about $15-$21. The quality is a lot better and the stuff is smooth. This is what I'd bring to a birthday/Christmas party or other annual event. This one has the vanilla taste the previous one has, but is mellowed and paired with a bit of a rich pancake/maple syrup taste.

What I think of the E&J XO: This is their limited release stuff and I buy it whenever I see it in stores because it is that great. It costs about the same as the VSOP, maybe a dollar or two more, and in my years of drinking I've yet to taste anything better at a similar price. This is what I'd bring to a hospital to celebrate the birth of a friend's child, a college graduation, retirement party or another "once in a lifetime" event. This stuff is so smooth I personally would never waste it in a cocktail. You get the vanilla and brown sugar tastes from the VS, the buttery pancake/maple syrup taste from the VSOP but you also get some interesting fruit flavors that just make this Brandy the best for low-price market.

...
>>
>>7131964
... Sadly I've not been able to find the E&J products in bars and it is even a struggle to find them outside of liquor-specific stores ( I believe Festival Foods carries all three labels I mentioned in my previous post but not Walmart, Pick'n Save, Piggly Wiggly, etc. ) so keep your eyes opened when you go shopping. My uncle actually went looking for some E&J VS only to not find it. The store he went to did order 4 bottles after he raised a stink about them not giving the product a fair chance; they sold all four just 15 minutes after opening and ( to his delight ) they now carry it.

I will confess I've not seen their Peach brandy in any store ( I confess I've not been looking for it specifically ) I've been to. If you have a chance to try it please let me know how it is.

>>7132219
It might taste better in a cocktail than their VS but I'd still be more likely to use the VS in a cocktail just because the VSOP is smooth enough to be enjoyed alone. I also think the flavors of the VS, being less refined, do well in a cocktail because the flavors are less likely to get lost in whatever you're cutting it with.
