Taking select foreign foods and modifying them to suit the masses is a foundation of american food culture. Pizza, tacos, fried rice, none of it's authentic and all of it's better than the original. It's the same with sushi. Applying the benefits of a global economy to previously national dishes in order to improve them, it's the american way.

>Fahrenheit is a much better system for weather description

How so? It's not like precision matters, who gives a shit if its 15 or 15.5 degree celsius outside.
>>
>>7078193
Fahrenheit was supposed to be the human body temp at 100, and the freezing point of water at 0.
The only problem is that the assistant was running a fever and they mistakenly used saltwater instead.
Besides, Fahrenheit is more accurate than Celsius, so git fukt yuropoor
>>
>>7078289
>people who set up the Fahrenheit scale fucked up the calibrations for where 0 and 100 are to be
>using a fluctuating, non-constant temperature for the reference point of 100 in the first place
>Fahrenheit is more accurate than Celsius

Physicists use Kelvin, which is almost Celsius. They're the kings of precision.
>>
>>7078233
This. People are just obsessed with Americans but other countries ruin foreign cuisine all the time.
>>
>>7078283
An ideal scale spreads the most used range from 0-100 (or -100 to +100). Celsius does a terrible job of this with all common temperatures bunched in a very small range giving you terrible precision with weather. Fahrenheit though not defined with this in mind does an amazing job of being close to the ideal 0-100 scale, upwards of 95% of the time the civilized world stays in that range while the whole spectrum is commonly used. It just makes no sense to waste half your scale on temperatures which do not naturally occur on earth's surface

>>7078292
>Physicists use Kelvin
For very different uses, this would not be very appropriate for use in weather, also it is not "almost Celsius". A change in 1 degree Celcius is equivalent to 1 K, but the scale is offset substantially
>>
>>7078316
nigga, there is no difference between 15 and 16 in celsius, who cares about your useless so called precision.
>>
>>7078289
>nd they mistakenly used saltwater instead.
pretty sure this is not true

But it is relevant that they used the freezing point of saturated NaCl brine as 0 which is very relevant for modern humans as that is when roads freeze as salt becomes ineffective. The freezing point of pure water which Celsius uses is not very relevant as we rarely deal with pure water
>>
>>7078193

month/day/year makes more sense than day/month/year.

its because you're going from the smallest number of choices, to the largest

9 months
up to 31 days
infinite years

It makes sense to go with month first since it has the smallest number of options, thus its logical to frame it first.
>>
>>7078316
>scale shrunk by a scale of 1.8
>it's suddenly shit

Shortcut: divide or multiply by 2. Only a huge dumbass can't do that.

And temperature is used outside of weather, for cooking you're going to be going throughout the 0-100 range, while Fahrenheit goes bumfuck retarded all over the place by your logic.
>>
>>7078320
Thats just not true. Are you too poor for air conditioning? I can tell when my AC is set at 69 vs 70. Sure as you get further from room temperature the difference is less noticeable, but it just makes no sense to confine your measurements to such an arbitrarily small range even if you couldn't easily tell the difference
>>
>>7078330
>>it's suddenly shit
its 180% worse

Its usable sure, but it is objectively worse for describing earthly weather, and the only reason it is used because of its undeserved relationship to the SI system, which is otherwise great
>>
>>7078328
It also makes more sense when speaking.

November 15th, 2015 sounds better than 15th November, 2015.
>>
>>7078327
Ice for beverages and refrigerators aren't a thing. Okay faggot.

>>7078335
And Fahrenheit is 180% worse for cooking and reading temperatures of machines that could run hot, right?
>>
>>7078330
>And temperature is used outside of weather, for cooking you're going to be going throughout the 0-100 range
Yeah, for cooking C is a little better than F, but the vast majority of times humans reference temperature it is in reference to weather and climate
>Shortcut: divide or multiply by 2. Only a huge dumbass can't do that.

You really miss the point, for C to include as much information about weather as F you would need to add a decimal
>>
>>7078343
>And Fahrenheit is 180% worse for cooking
Yeah, it doesn't work like that. If you cooked everything at exactly 100C and served at 0 your math would be correct, but thats obviously not the case
>and reading temperatures of machines that could run hot,

well that full depends on what type of machine we are talking about and what the definition of too hot is. You could potentially come up with all sorts of niche uses where various arbitrary scales work better, but weather is the dominant every day use of temperature so we should use a common scale that best addresses that, and apply niche scales when appropriate

I really don't understand your argument, you haven't really made any points in favor of your stance besides hot machines, why are you so opposed to using the more logic system?
>>
>>7078352
And weather doesn't exactly fluctuate between 0 and 100 everyday either. I really don't understand your argument, you haven't really made any points in favor of your stance besides somehow being able to tell differences in temperature of 1 Fahrenheit.
>>
>>7078154

The American palate is just beyond fucked. All people like here is stuff filled with sugar and salt. There is pretty much no subtlety in any American dishes.
>>
>>7078355
>doesn't exactly fluctuate between 0 and 100 everyday
no, but annually it come pretty close

I already mentioned that the system was not designed with this in mind, it just happens to do it better

Your stance seems to be that you like C because its what you use, rather than because its good, you are just blindly defending shit. 100 degrees being pretty hot and 0 being pretty cold is a great scale for normal use. 40 being pretty hot and -20 being pretty cold is just a dumb scale
>>
>>7078370
And people will deal with cold and hot foods pretty often while cooking, such a wonder.

You're literally just calling things you're unaccustomed to "dumb". -20C as the reference point for "pretty cold" only works if you're a Finn or something, most people in the world would start wearing thicker clothes at 0C.

I'm an American and I haven't yet insulted the Fahrenheit system, the closest thing I said to that was physicist use Kelvin which scales the same as Celsius. I'm fine with everyone using the scales they're accustomed to. Rather I think it is you who is adamant that Fahrenheit is suddenly so much better because you think literally everyone can somehow differentiate the difference between 68 degrees and 69 degrees with 100% accuracy just by their senses alone.
>>
>>7078389
Face it. He blew you the fuck out. How is 40 being very hot a good way to do it? 100 is hot. 0 is cold. Simple.
>>
>>7078343

not even the guy you commented on but, you do realize that whatever filters you are using still arent going to remove most of the contaminants and trace metals from your water right?
>>
>>7078389
>You're literally just calling things you're unaccustomed to "dumb"
I work as a chemist, I use C all the time

I would say about 10F/-10C is were you can really start saying its cold. 0C is way too routine a temperature so set as your 0 point

>I'm an American and I haven't yet insulted the Fahrenheit system,
No, you really haven't said much of substance at all and have just attacked me rather than try and refute any point I have made

Do you not have a thermostat? Would you rather it only went up in 2 degree increments if you cannot notice the difference? Thats seems to be your argument, that since you cannot 100% tell the difference between 1 degree F, we shouldn't even bother with using a precise system because it doesn't matter much. I genuinely want to know why you think C is better for weather/normal human usage

>>
>>7078409
No.
>>
>>7078389
>And people will deal with cold and hot foods pretty often while cooking
sure, but these go well above 100C too, if 100C was a logical limit for cooking you would have a point, but you will need to go well into 3 digit range with either F or C while cooking so the difference between them at baking temperatures becomes pretty trivial with neither providing any real advantage

and on the cold end, F is more useful because any frozen food has to be well into the negative range in C which is not the case with F. I guess C is cool if you are just trying to freeze water at sea level, but thats a pretty specific scenario

Literally the first post asking why F was better was responded to a fully reasoned post and you simply couldn't address it

Your entire argument is that your senses are not powerful enough to tell the difference between 70F and 69Fso fuck precision lets you a crazy, arbitrary scale just because
>>
>>7078404
Your argument boils down entirely to preferences. 100F as being pretty hot and 0F as cold is not universal. Some people will argue it is 80 and 40, or 90 and 20. Even in Michigan it rarely get to 0F. If you want to argue what system is better for more people live closer to the equator and I don't think they have the same definition of cold and hot as you do.

>Your argument boils down entirely to preferences
If you mean a preference for a scale with provides as much information with as few digits as possible, then you are correct. But I believe that is a well reasoned logical preference to have

My argument was not simply about what is "pretty hot or cold", its that this range of temperatures much more closely matches what is actually experienced by human civilizations on earth than the 0-100 scale of C which over half of it does not happen on earth

Meanwhile your whole argument is "no, I don't like that for a reason I have yet to articulate"

Literally where have I said that I don't like the Fahrenheit system? Which post?

Human civilization does experience 100C, it's called boiling water which people do everyday. Humans all over world do in fact experience 0-100C, just different parts of this interval in different places. They might not encounter this entire interval in terms of weather but they sure are going to encounter it in a combination of weather, cooking, etc.

I read what you say and you're basically saying weather is the most prevalent topic surrounding temperature, therefore the most used reference points should be entirely be based off of the #1 most important topic, disregarding the #2 or #3 most important topics which nonetheless are important.

How is Celsius a better system for knowing the weather when a majority of the scale isn't in common use for temperatures possible on Earth?
>>
>>7078514
I wouldn't say it's better but if you grow up with using celsius you know exactly what 30 degrees feels like.

And yes, your thermostat or thermometer does include decimals.
>>
>>7078520

>>
>>7078154

>>
>>7078514
Given that the human body is mostly made up of water then I think it makes sense to use a sytem designed around the freezing and boiling points of water.
Plus water is an important aspect of weater systems. soem people call it "rain". Others call it "condensation". But it's more accurate to refer to it as "humidity".
>>
>>7078529
Literally nobody in this thread was saying that Celsius was objectively better.
>>
>>7078536
I made some typos but I think it still makes cents. ;_;
>>
>>7078536
But the human body temperature is 37 C. It still doesn't use most of the scale. Fahrenheit uses a little over half of it to cover temperatures possible on Earth naturally.
>>
>>7078546
That's great if temperature is used only for weather. and only at locations that are hundreds of miles away from the equator and where snow does not fall more than occasionally every year.

Really tasty stuff. They have a very chewy texture to them. Ultimately, they are an organ and as such are a bit weird for some people. But man they're good.

>>7082326
Uh. Ok. I don't know why you wouldn't try something new that you've never tasted before for no reason, but whatever.

So your argument is that the gizzard from a common chicken is a korean dish while sauteed and that it is a stolen korean dish when it is battered and cooked by an entirely different method with different ingredients?

I guess you guys are great culinary masters in addition to being completely fluent in English. I guess I'll just have to bow out.

Fried chicken probably isn't American either since you guys were cooking chicken, too. My bad. I'll make sure to tell everyone that any chicken-related food is Korean.

You're a really smart guy, friend.

We actually improve the quality of foreign foods because we have higher hygiene standards, cleaner facilities, and we inspect our meat.

Usually, the only thing missing from the U.S. version of foreign foods is the fecal and bacterial contamination that accompanies it in their home nations.

Uh these are Koreans/Chinese immigrants penny pinching and deep frying the left overs. Only fat-fucks would eat the sushi at these asian-owned buffets. The sushi there is crap and the deep fried sushi are even worse but appealing to fat asses.

The true travesty is when Americans ruin their own food. Never get seafood in the Midwest, barbecue up north, and run from anything made by hipsters who have been vegan so long they forgot what real food tastes like.

go back a year ago, and all you had was joey, vegan, chili, and garlic press threads.
