12 slight variations of the same fucking Potato/Macaroni Salad, a haggard wobbly tin-foil tray of baked beans, and a dessert that has toxic-like color.

My grandma lived in northern Indiana her whole life, and before she died she gave me some of her old cook books for a laugh. One was "Entertaining... To Impress!" It featured a recipe of olives and hardboiled eggs suspended in green jello. If I can find it I'll post a picture.

Dear sweet jesus, you basically found that recipe. It rings a bell now seeing "molded salads". Googling that enough nearly made me sick.

>>
>>7068587
Every fucking time a pasty gets posted a South American says that exact fucking thing, without fail.

No, your ripoff is based on the pasty. Don't make me post the wiki articles showing the pasty predates your empanda by 300 years.
>>
>>7068671
I'm American and when I see one of those things, I think "empanada".

A "pasty" is a garment from your drawer of delicate underthings. Or when applied to food, it's something you say to imply the food is no good.

Maybe you mean "pastry" which is an actual word for food.

Signed,

People who aren't from some weird forgotten jesus town in the middle of michigan or iowa or whatever (arr rook same)

>fish fry
Isn't that just fish and chips?
>>
>>7068671
Or should we try the version where it came from Portugal. The name comes from the Galician, Portuguese, and Spanish verb empanar, meaning to wrap or coat in bread.

>>7068702
Pasty is an English/Welsh word that equates to the same thing.

If we want to get pedantic, the Samosa/Sambosa, dates to the 10th century. (Middle East)
>>
>>7068557
So why exactly did these things come into style in the 70's? Are they actually tasty but just look shit? Was the concept of suspending foods in a set liquid considered a novelty?

What a shock

>These jellied salads quickly became "wildly popular", probably because, Shapiro says: "There was nothing remotely salad-like about them. You ate dessert and called it salad … it was supremely sweet, which was the goal of an enormous amount of American cooking and eating."

Marketing and young wives/mothers combined. Throw a bunch of shit in jello and look at this stunning display for your next party!

You sicken me.

What the fuck.

>I'm American and when I see one of those things, I think "empanada".

Obviously, because Miguel and Juan are the most common names in the United States, so it's only natural for you to use your primary language to refer to things.
>>
>>7068746
I had never seen this welsh sign stuff before. Unreal.

I once knew a welshman that frequented my pub, you could barely understand him. He was a salesman for our local craft-spirits company, and would bop around to all the local places peddling the stuff. He went missing for a few months and people were starting to go "where the hell is Winston, he never misses a Cardiff match." Come to find out he sold everything he owned to make bail and eventually flee back to the UK.

The reason he went to jail? Shows up to his "we need to talk to you meeting" drunk, but interrupts his own bosses to give them his 15 minute spirits sales presentation. They eventually interrupt him back and give him the "you're being let go" speech. He proceeds to throw his laptop at the owner of the company, pull a knife from his boot and put it to his throat. After he's escorted from the company by the remaining guys in the office, he leaves and sends a "You've got a bomb coming to your doorstep text to all of the staff".
>>
>>7068734
>Welsh

No.
>>
>>7068702

I bet your the type of faggot that calls pork rinds "chicharrons"
>>
>>7068815
No, I am not stupid and racist. I call them chicharrones, because that is the plural of chicharron.

I bet you're the type of dishonorable individual who says "tamale" when referring to an individual tamal.

Also stop being a homophobe.

where in the UP? manistique reporting in

have you ever been to Camelrider's? It's probably the best restaurant I've been to in the UP, it's also fun because you have to take old logging roads just to get there. I had the rack of lamb last time, it was cooked to perfection. I have no idea how the run such a nice restaurant in the literal middle of fucking nowhere
>>
>>7068875
I've had family scattered through the midwest my entire life and never heard it called a hotdish.
>>
>>7068815
the sad thing is the person you are replying to is not American. The Europeans have called him out and the Americans have called him out on his shitposting.

He is clearly just trying to start a flame war by pretending to be a stupid American. My guess is that he is an argentinian based on how personally he is taking the Spanish names for their copies of the originals.
>>
>>7068890

Only really spent time in farmland Minnesota and northern Chicago-land, and they both called it hotdish (though "casserole" was used sometimes in Illinois).
>>
>>7068890
i've lived in michigan, illinois, indiana, ohio, and wisconsin and have never met someone call it hotdish. those are the only midwestern states desu (also minnesota), but if you don't border a great lake you have no right to call yourselves midwestern

>if he doesn't think EXACTLY LIKE ME he's not American
Reasons why the midwest will never be considered a cultured place
>>
As someone who grew up in northern Indiana and the south Chicago suburbs, the worst culinary offense was "polish buffet." Literally every wedding or grad party or whatever catered thing was all "polish buffet."

So bland boiled green beans, boring sausages, shitty mac 'n cheese, boiled noodles, dry bread, mashed potatoes w/no seasoning,

Similar backgrounds. The mormons brought in lots of Lutheran Scandinavians in the late 1800s and early 1900s in exchange for conversion. My great grandma was mormon on paper but had a Lutheran funeral.
Do Scandinavians do casserole type dishes?
>>

Milwaukee's Best as well, only time I ever saw hipsters drinking PBR was at a kegger with a bunch of hipsters and underage kids. Pretty good time anyways.

New England isn't America. It's too close to the Atlantic Ocean and therefore it's part of Argentina. You sound like the kind of homosexual person who says "baguette" instead of "traitor bread" like Real Americans. Also you are clearly not white and probably are too ashamed to say Merry Christmas.
