Do you even have a lucky glass, /ck/? Something you drank milk out of as a child? Or something you picked out with your ex-gf in a vintage shop? A lord of the rings grail with Aragon's face on it from 1999? I want to see your meaningful glassware. Pic related.
I have a caduseus vineyards large beer glass that was cut from a wine bottle. It looks cool and holds a ton of beer in it, wish I had a pic to share.

Thanks for the bump, at least, neighbor. desu that would look pretty cool. I've wanted to do something similar with the apothecary bottles Hendrick's gin comes in.
A blue M&Ms mug that I got for christmas as a child. It's nice and big.
Which is the correct way to use one of there things?

But the holes to let the juice out are in the bottom. If you do it that way the holes will be blocked by the rind.

Anyone know any semi-fancy, impressive recipes I can make that won't break the bank?
I'm supposed to make dinner for the girl I'm seeing, but due to unexpected expenses, I'm broke-ish right now, and I really want to impress her so I can touch a boob. I'm not worried about how complicated or complex it is, just on the cheaper side. Was thinking maybe a gumbo or pulled pork...
I have a full pantry with spices and such, and all the pots and pans I would need. I've got no proteins, but I've got a few random veggies around.
>>9007610
Make a vegetable pasta. Sautee whatever you have then take your cooked pasta toss with the veggies and some olive oil. Top with grated parmesan or another hard cheese if you have it. Then a simple salad on the side with some crusty bread.
gumbo or jambalaya sound like good options. they have lots of flavor and seem more complicated than they really are, so it impresses people who don't know how it's made.
>>9007610
Gumbo would be good. Chicken and smoked sausage gumbo would be inexpensive. Try to make an impressive plating with wide soup bowls containing an ice cream scoop of white rice in the middle surrounded by the gumbo. Garnish with chives. That might get you more than a feel of booby.
What IS Dutch food? I've tasted the stroopwaffel. That's it. I'm gonna take a flight there soon, what should I be on the look out for?
>>9007574
I had pretty good cheese when I was there, but I'm an American so take that for what it is.
>>9007577
Yeah, they're known for their Gouda. Best Gouda I had I found in Germany called "Old Amsterdam". Very good.
>>9007574
We don't have many restaurants here that serve Dutch food, except for very specific, stylistic choice.
Here's some famous restaurants that serve a different kinds of Dutch food:
>Moeders (translates to mother's) serves traditional Dutch dishes like stamppot (kale, milk and potato stew), hachée (slow cooked beef), pea soup, poffertjes (tiny, fluffy pancakes) etc.
>Wilde Zwijnen (translates to Wild Boars) is a restaurant that uses local, seasonal ingredients and has a different menu every day. Comfy af
>Café Loetje. For those who love steaks.
>Lt.Cornelis serves oldy time food like quaill, huzaren salade (hussar's salad) and fish dishes. It's very nicely decorated and there is a nice ambience going on.
Also, I would recommend that you go to a snackbar and try things like bamibal (a tasty fried ball of noodles), frikadel, kroket (or croquette) and kapsalon.
There's also a lot of amazing craft beers. I would suggest visiting the Jopenkerk, Bierproeflokaal in de Wildeman and Uiltjesbar.

It's the most important meal of the day. What're you having?
R8 my breakfast.
let's see the inside, boy-o
The wrong side was presented. but yeah, cut it open.
I had fried kielbasa with sauerkraut, sunny side up eggs and a piece of toast with some oily portuguese hot sauce stuff spread on it
Post the last thing you had for dinner
>Fish n Chips
I would personally give that an 8/10, lost two points because those chips could be thicker and it's not wrapped in newspaper but that looks pretty tasty anon.
>>9007261
Fish and Chips, when done well, is honestly my favorite meal of all time.
>>9007266
It was very tasty, it cured my hangover right then and there I swear to God. It was also the first time I'd ever had a fish fry/fish and chips meal.
The fish was extremely tender and the batter was nice and crispy. The sauce added some smoothness so it slid down the throat quite easily. The chips had just the right amount of salt. The coleslaw was a little dry for my taste, it was the weakest part of the meal. I didn't find the lemon until after I had eaten some of the fries so only the last piece of fish got lemon juice.
Who went today? Who is going tomorrow? What did you buy? What are you looking forward to?
Pic related I only bought flowers and carrots because nothing looked good this week. Tons of squash. And no peaches (mid Atlantic) which was a bummer.
I've always wondered, what do the fasting muslims that live in areas with midnight sun do?
They don't live there, ya dip
You haven't "always wondered", if you had you would have just googled it and found the answer within 20 seconds.

Is it just me or does Chef John's potato salad look super 'pasty'. Like, broken down and goopy. All the potato salad I've had in my life was pretty distinctly chunky with visible separation between the parts, but the potato salad he made there looks pretty on the border of 'mashed'.
Is it just a matter of larger chunks of potato, or is the level of dressing you add to the potato salad? Is Chef John's potato salad just an outlier or does anyone else primarily encounter potato salad like his?
>>9007181
Depends on the type of potato too, Russets especially break down a lot when you boil them. Previously he's said his favourite potato salad potato was Yukon Gold so I don't really know why he changed. He also stirs the hell out of it, so that probably mashes it even more.
I like some pasty texture, helps it all stick together but I usually use a spoon of instant mash or two in the dressing. I cook my potatoes (usually mixed colour baby poatoes) already cut up in slightly acidic water to help them keep their shape and minimize overcooking.
>>9007213
So he manhandles it. I wondered why he said "It was my favourite baby food" honestly.
I was planning on making some tater salad for a cookout this weekend, coincidentally, and i was wondering why he didn't use some nice red potatoes.
I guess he did say it was a technique video.
Chef John is a hack
I want to work with edible lavender.
Today I got some dried lavender that was marked as "edible" and it says on the package that I should heat it for 10 minutes before consuming. One of the things I wanted to do was infuse oil with lavender - is it enough to infuse the oil as it is and heat it that way or should I heat it before and if so, how? I fear the lavender might lose its aroma when heating it before infusing the oil.
I also wanted to try baking lavender bread. Is the process of baking enough?
Any tips and thoughts on cooking with lavender would be appreciated, too.
Get food flavouring. It's made exactly for what you intend to do, and it's actually food grade without complications.
>>9006911
Seems like that's the easiest solution. Bummer.
>>9006882
Trying to grow some so I can make lavender syrup. Pretty stoked for that.
